Preferred: Synthesis
Second choice: Control
Reason: Mostly the same reasons as OP, but I also think it would be better for a being that had experience as an organic take the helm as protector of the galaxy.

Preferred Ending:  High EMS Paragon Control
Second Choice: High EMS Destroy
Explanation for Second Choice: My canon for Katja Shepard has always been Renegade Control. The one to protect the many. End of story.

As for MEHEM, no thanks. I agree the mod is a great effort but I don't want a "happy ending". Watching it left me utterly cold.

I'm pretty sure everyone who picked Synthesis had Control as their second choice and vice-versa.

Not really; I know people who picked Control that have Destroy as their second choice.

That may be, but so far this thread is supporting my hypothesis.

1. destroy
2. pack gamebox full of semtex or wrap 200m of pentylfuse around it and blow it to hell were it belongs

3 stuff it into one ot the tanks ABC-filters that have been used in real chemical warfare.

Preferred Synthesis
2nd Choice: Control. Enforce the "No building A.I." law. Current A.I. can stay around. But, if they start causing trouble, they'll be eliminated. I'm looking at you, Geth.....

MrFob built us the ending a lot of us wanted. Bioware was too artsy to give us decent closure.
Out of a recent poll, nearly 20% chose MEHEM.
Keep in mind, that console players cannot install MEHEM, or this figure (IMO) would be closer to 25%.

Therefore, SOUNDLY beating Synthesis and Control. I repeat, SOUNDLY beating Synthesis and Control.

Conclusion: MEHEM is the 2nd most popular ending after Destroy. It is now a cornerstone of ME endings. It may not be artsy, but it is what people enjoy playing. To exclude it out of this topic, reeks of Synthesis elitarianism, and it pleases me that most posters on the front page ignore the op's suggestion to exclude it.

It's still fanfiction and the fanon itself  doesn't coexist with the other options. The OP is not being an elitist for asking posters not to include it.

Ironically, your hostile attitude toward Control and Synthesis sounds incredibly intolerant.

I picked Synthesis because it's the best of all possibilities - everyone lives and maintains their own individuality, independence, and humanity while sharing a compatible biological/biochemical framework for all life. I really am undecided about a second choice. I guess I might go with Control over Destroy (would never, ever choose Refuse - ugh), but it's not ideal.

My issue with Control is that it relies on permanently placing power in the hands of one person, well, former person-turned-AI. You would have to be extremely confident about the Shepard AI (if you want to call it that) not changing over time and retaining his/her vestiges of humanity over eons.

Preferred Ending: Destroy
Second Choice: Reject
Explanation for Second Choice: Leviathan pretty much tells you that the Reapers are a miscoded reaction to their selfishness. They created what became the Reapers to stop the organics who worshipped them from creating synthetics that destroyed the organics. The Reapers then basically instituted Asimov's three laws and determined that Leviathan also posed a risk of being destroyed by synthetics. Based on that, the program needs to be destroyed and taken offline. In my head canon, Destroy eliminates EDI's body and all Geth platforms. Their consciousness still exists in the Normandy and backups respectively and can be later restored if so chosen.

If I couldn't do that, all of the other three choices suck. In one, I become what I came to destroy and in all probability become the Catalyst that someone else tries to turn off umpteen cycles from now. In the second, I take an action that makes absolutely no sense and genetically rape every sentient being in the universe. That leaves reject, meaning that I fail but the next cycle will succeed.

Um... I know I've been away from the forums for a couple of days, but I don't know what these endings are... Didn't the end of the game kind of just play out..?

I picked Control.  I'll pick Destroy as second choice.  Synthesis is both disturbing and total gibberish.

Though I'd probably pick saying to hell with this game over Destroy for my canon Shep.

Synthesis isn't my ending choice.

I'm just pointing out the double standard here. You condemn the OP for asking people not to mention a non-canon ending, but disregard the the other choices.

If you get your kicks out of making fun of people who people who choose a certain ending, then hey I won't judge you....at least not openly.

1st choice. Destroy

2nd Refuse. Because honestly screw BW's garbage about the cycle repeating when the only cycle has been the ****** Leviathans and their ****** AI screwing everyone else over.

And my Shep would throw himself infront of Harbinger's beam before picking Synthesis half baked nonsense garbage.

I'm not dismissing them because they weren't speaking from the heart. I'm dismissing them because they  -- you --weren't making a good faith attempt to engage with the OP's question.

But over eons the races of the galaxy will presumably develop to the point where the Sheplyst is not militarily omnipotent.

Though I suppose the Sheplyst could go all Second Foundation and use widespread Indoctrination to keep civilization going in the direction it wants,

I don't know, but I've just had my prejudices about Destroyers confirmed by the number of "Destroy or turn the game off" responses. Damned fundamentalists.

Your prediction fits me though.

Looks like I'm joining this bandwagon.

Preferred Ending: Control
Second Choice: Synthesis
Explanation for Second Choice:

Like, I said, OP, you are a pain. So well done on forcing me to think about this :)
At the end of the day, I don't find it easy to choose between Destroy and Synthesis. Synthesis comes with the price-tag of body violation on a galactic scale, while Destroy undoes what I consider to be one of my  Shepard's greatest achievements - peace on Rannoch.
But Destroy wipes out the Geth and kills EDI, which is why, ultimately, I can't choose it. I told Legion that I had his back - I seriously  wasn't kidding. Synthesis outweigh the violation side of things. And I hope the galaxy can forgive me...

That guess is severely under the mark if we were to assume most of that 20% are indeed PC players.
Where console players make up a majority of the players.

On the other hand it would probably be only taking away from destroy and refuse and maybe some of the other 2.
But not so much as Synthesis and Control supporters are fanatics.
