The reason there are tryouts for Spectre is because if someone is in our group... there is a certain standard we expect them to upkeep. We don't want scrubs tarnishing our good name, for instance: A known Spectre goes into a lobby and performs very poorly... this reflects on all the members. We can't have that... we can't call ourselves the best if we let scrubs amoungst our ranks. That's why there is tryouts... the reputation of skilled, badass, cool people must be upheld.

If you have anymore questions (not trolling preferrably) I will answer them in a calm manner and try to paint a clearer picture for you.

It's really just a bunch of REALLY good players, who get together and steamroll the game while laughing constantly... success is guaranteed.

I have a pretty clear picture, but thanks for offering anyway.  It still sounds like a high school clique who judge who can be a member based on something as unimportant has how well you play a video game.  You may all be skilled players but "cool", I just don't see it based on the forum behavior I've seen over the past year from some of the members of the group.  And based on your own post, that behavior reflects on the rest of the members as well.

I would point out several Spectres have done more to enhance the player base than most of the people who complain about the group. There have been some posts by members that were tongue in cheek humor that didn't go over well but again I would say the positive outweighs the negative for the most part.

You can't have an elite group without some perceiving you as elitest douches.

My first Platinum extraction goes to Disciple888 (and that was an epic carry.)

I first learned speedrunning from biggs.

I learned to play Gold from P51 Mus7ang, who in turn, learned the same from Megabeast.

So, yeah, they are out there doing the work of making players better.

Would be mildly interested, though not sure I am quite good enough for it. Perhaps put a general criteria or general sort of test in the OP?

nuuuuuuu dont leave me

Join us! Female representation is greatly appreciated/admired. There were only 3 females in SpecX (Flies_By_Handles, Kwijyi and Painforest). That made for a 1/10 ratio... clearly a sausage fest. Every loves great female gamers.

Perhaps I'm too harsh on myself, but I'm pretty sure I'm not good enough, at the least I know I'm not of the same caliber as the old PC group was.

I know my limitations, basically, and if my best is their worst I don't think I'm good enough. I'm perfectly happy just having them on my friends list.

ETA: And if the standards are going to be lower than what I know of the old group, then I don't see the point.

Hey, no point in not trying!

Also, if I make it (Gonna need to be a good day with my Valkyrie) you sure as hell are going to make it.  Show off some Human Adept prowess, or N7 Paladin, or even Drellguard.

I could easily see you making it.  Me... well, as I said, a good day with the Valkyrie maybe, otherwise pretty sure it will be a nogo.

Still gonna try.

Nothing against the folks who are already part of it, but I don't see the point in joining an e-peen group to validate your own skill in this game.

Oh no! (j/k)

Well, being a former Spectre, I wish you guys good luck with that new group. I don't see a specific need to rejoin as I am not that active anymore, and while I still play a few games from time to time, I would feel kinda out of place. Besides, I don't need a title to be good at this game :P[/quote]

QFT. I'm sure most of my friendslist is either in the group or would make the group (given that a lot of the old PC SPECTRE X players have moved on), and I know how good I am when I put my tryhard pants on. The "official stamp of approval" just seems over the top.

I get all the challenge I need PUGing Plat:devil:

Tbh, I am part of the group, but have only been in games with 5 or so other members. I have a group of friends I normally roll with that are not part of the group. All of the players I have been in games with have all been cool. BlackProject, FlashAK, HeroicMass(nasty scrub), and NuclearTech to just name a few.

However, the point of the group is to play with other very skilled players. Carrying PUGs every game can get old after a while. Getting to play with other skilled players who have your back, can make for a very fun and relaxing time.

And the point of not joining is what? People who are good at the game still can learn things from others who are good at the game. I've learned a lot about classes that I didn't like or appreciate from people in SPECTRE and Arelex. I can't understand the negative backlash of some when most of what the members have done has been positive.

pffff Spectres are supposed to be the best, therefore we can't accept everyone, there are a bunch of groups that accept everyone who wants to be in.

Spectre is supposed to have very high standards, on my old group I tested a lot of PC players and all of them failed, our standards were so high that very few qualified, basically the old PC group was a bunch of broken monsters with the exceptions of few ones.

So in this new group we won't get people in just because we are friends, no, they have to prove themselves to us, maybe some of you will say "blablablabla this is a video game blablablabla" indeed, this is a videogame only, but we are making a group on the videogame forum for the best players :)

Is this elitist?, the hell yeah, but who cares?, this is supposed to be only for broken players, not for the casual PUG.

We can play with everyone, everyone here knows that I play with everyone, but the group is not for everyone.

So, what's the problem?

Human nature is to magnify the bad and turn a blind eye to the good..

I remember some good the forum did during the last N7 Weekend Operation when there were plenty of people helping other get the platinum extractions.  There's also been a lot of help given on to those who come here looking for tips on builds, solo advice and such.  I just have problems with the "you can't join our gaming group unless you pass our tests" mentality.  To me it's just fracturing the player base further, after it's already dropped off with new games coming out, instead of strengthening it.  I thought since this game didn't have a PvP mode, I could have avoided the typical elitist mindset that usually comes with online gaming...I guess that was my mistake.  Human nature and all that.

wow. so you have no interest in joining the group, yet ask to bypass the tryouts. then, you believe that the tryouts aren't even required for someone else, based on your reccommendation? you. who is not even in the group?

Well, I've seen a lot of videos from members in this so called Spectre Scrub group and very seldom have I been impressed. It is my honest opinion that HardcoreSalmon is the best active player on Xbox from BSN today and both Mr. Biggs, Discruble888, Cainscrub and Megascrub is far less skilled players at this game than he is.

But I can totally see why you are scared Biggie, because you would just get embarrassed when you're at the bottom of the scoreboard like a little noobie :P

Well Spectres technically are elitists if they form a group comprising of 'some of the best' players. Maybe people should just get better at the game ;)

Though in all honesty, while I have nothing against Spectre, I don't see the point in it; why do you need to be in a group to feel validated on your skills in a video game?

What negative backlash?

I can play with these top-tier people because some of them are already on my friends list, or through mutual friends, and I already learn the stuff because they publicize it here or I experiment on my own.

Like I said, if I wanted to I could do a tryout since I have cricketer on my list.

I wouldn't cut it anyway if Jay, Sten and Feneckus are going to be the PC standard :?

Yeah, I have the same approach to it and in everything single game community I have been involved with, the top players/guilds always had a "snarky" façade on the forums but behaved completely differently once you got in. I think it's just how it goes.

Trying it is less about E-peen or recognition and more about getting in touch with people who might offer new perspectives of gameplay and point out whatever weakness I have not realized.

While I agree with HolyAvenger that pugging does offer a lot of challenge and can make one feel good about his ability to carry a team, since you are basically alone with yourself doing what you know works best, like a routine, it makes difficult to spot what you could be doing even better.

Well, you already have them on your friend list, some people like me don't, in the end it's a way to get in touch like any other.
