I like to use it with the Geth Trooper Soldier, it allows me to max the other two skills, my passives and still have some kind of improved visuals. I give up the damage boost of HM, but gain it back by using power boost mods on SMGs and HPs that I use on that kit.
I've used it on the Turian Sentinel, it worked quite well. Other kits, I find different gear is more valuable, such as using the berserker upgrade on my EDI-bot or warfighter upgrade on my Havoc. Just depends on the kit and to some degree the faction.

It is useful as wall hack can be, but no more no less.
Remember this gear does not help engaged battle itself anyhow.

It does help though. If I can tell that there are precisely two phantoms behind that wall, I can set traps before they can get to me.Tallgeese_VII wrote...
It is definitely overrated for those who say they put it on every character.

You are talking about non-engaged battle that is about to be engaged.

Also if you're able to find enemies quicker with the scanner then that = + damage. So its not like you're losing an entire +15% damage from not having another gear equipped.

I've been playing some more gold/plat matches lately, more than usual, and I've yet to see anyone use the geth scanner in their loadouts. I unlocked mine the other day but have yet to try it out since I know the screen overlays will give me a migraine.

But OP, how on earth did you possibly think that you can have an opinion different from the majority of BSN!

Geth scanner is not a bad gear at all, but I definitely often find myself preferring another. I agree with you that if you have good orientation on the battle field, it is mostly unneeded, though in some cases it can definitely save you from a sneaky phantom or Marauder's elbow here and there.

on though. Both the Phoenix Adept and Vanguard get a huge boost
from using it as it pairs up very nicely with the Smash ability.

It's simple, play the game with good headphones, don't listen to music while playing. You can easily hear enemies on the other side of walls, behind you, spawning across the map... etc. without that eyesore on your screen.
Maybe for someone who just unlocked a Fury, and is learning how to tele, or someone who "plays casually" and listens to music or is doing other things while palying, it could be useful. But I find this gear to probably be the most useless out of any gear.
With audio clues + experience your situational awareness is perfectly fine, however with the hunter mode overlay it is slightly impaired. Combine that with the fact that there are much much more useful gear that you could use... Geth Scanner just seems pointless.
Discuss.
No, because audio clues can be misleading if there is lag (like the "endless" husk moan), and it is always better to rely on what you can see than what you can hear.

You can perfectly aim attacks like PD, smash, slash, and junk.
You're less likely to have a hunter sneak up and stun you, and phantoms are easy to find when they cloak.
Plus, you're not losing really anything. Most the gear doesn't make a big difference except grenade gear.

If not, you're better off bringing something to supplement the kit's strengths or cover it's weaknesses instead. The only class I've taken to using it on is the Geth Juggernaut, but that's because it's just too weird having a Geth without HM.

Yes, actually you can if you have an actually balanced sound setup or actual not software faked 5/7.1 headphones.
Used to shoot people through walls all the time in L4d/2, MEMP isn't any different.
