Export commands+management at toolset

As a newbie to modding generally I have a few questions:
What exactly does exporting do?
I believe I understand dependancy options, but what does it do? Does it create files? Does it just create files? What about manifest and the other xml options?
Is it safe to use it again and again or should I clear the folders before each export?
Is it safe to use it without clearing if I just worked on another mod? (I'm messing around so it's common for me to make new mods)
Also, how do I remove mods I created from the toolset?
Another one: I had two seperate mods. One had an npc with dialogue, other had an npc. But the former one didn't work. So I thought I could use the dialogue file in the second one with the working npc. What I did was, select resource and choose the second mod for the two module options. I guess the file was corrupted or something because toolset just crashed when I tried to open it. So I changed it back to the first one.
Now when I enable the second mod from the DLC menu in game, first one activates too. How can I break that link?
Last question: Is it possible to load a particular folder on the resource palette? (or whatever its called, the one on the right side) I want to see all resources at times and I always put them in one folder (different folder per mod) but eventhough I'm interested in my folder with a handful resources, toolset keeps loading the palette for all single play resources (since i extend to there). Not a big issue, but annoying nevertheless.
Thanks in advance

Exporting is making files, yes. A resource in the database is just data for the toolset; exporting makes it into a file that can be used by the game.
Not all the resources export the same way. Some (scripts) will export a number of files (other scripts) that you didn't explicitly ask for. Plots will export plot scripts that don't appear as resources in the palette. Most will just produce a file with the same name as the resource.
it is safe to export again and again - every export will overwrite the older files. Every module should export into its own file structure, so it should be safe to export after switching modules. If you're exporting a resource from the single player module however, it might end up in packages/core/override or modules/single player/override; in that case you might unintentionally overwrite it with subsequent exports from another module. Why don't you make a couple of experiments and see what goes where? It's probably the best way to learn. Just keep an eye on the log window.

You can't, not in a completely safe way, unless you know your way around databases. You may delete the file structure that the toolset created for the modules, but really deleting them from the database must be done manually. I recommend just leaving them there.

I believe typing the name of your folder in the text box right under the palette, while "All" palette button is selected, might do the trick.
