After giving some time to think of weapon restrictions and classes, I came to the realization that what bioware could do, that I feel is a very cool idea, is to create classes that blur the line between two existing classes. It's arguable that such classes already exist, such as templars for a mage/warrior hybrid and technically the shadow for a mage/rogue specializations. But I feel that these, while okay, could be expanded upon to inclue a new type of talent tree idea in them, that being the ability to use weapons normally restricted to other classes.

So without further delay, here they are.

Arcane Warrior: A mage who specializations in more traditional combat while still bringing magic to the forefront, essentially a literal combination of the warrior and mage class. This class would have a talent tree that allows them mostly passive boost in combat and a few nifty spells, but one talen tree would be for using a one-handed sword and magic both at once. One of the problems I had with DAO and being an arcane warrior was that if you wanted to use magic and a sword, you needed to seath the sword and than cast a spell, which ate up preciosu time. My idea would essentially remove that problem and have swords make up the arcane warriros defult attacks.

Ranger or Battlemaster: This specialization would combine rogue and warrior classes, and would be for use for warriors who want a little more stealthy approach to combat. It would have passives to boost evasiveness and other stats, but would also give the player a weapon tree in the use of dual weapons. You could also bring back animal summoning as well, as another tree, but I think making it more of a mix between a rogues quick playstyle and warriors durability would benefit the class greatly and offer a new playstyle to people.

Rogues are a bit trickier though, mainly because of the shadow class. But I think having a rouge/magic hybrid titled something cool like a night blade would make for a pretty great playstyle option. Give the rogue a couple of AOE magic effects, maybe even trap type spells that work similar to glyphs and open them up to a new style of weapon, maybe a quarterstaff or something, and you could have quite the impressive combination of support rouge or mob killer on your hands.

Two were, but not the rouge one. They weren't in dragon age 2, so I figured why not reintergrate them back into the game, and give fans the weapon options they've been asking for as well.

A bit of a 2 for 1 deal.

What I mainly want is a melee mage, but I like the idea of bringing those two back as well.

Agreed, there is only gain in having hybrid classes. People who want to build pure classes lose nothing, and it opens up alot of customization options for people who enjoy messing around with that sort of thing.

Of course I would prefer dropping classes all together and just using an open stat/talent based leveling system, but at the very least there need to be hybrid options for me personally to enjoy it.

It also allows me to build completely messed up and inefficient RP characters, to help tailor the difficulty of the game to where I want it to be. For example I didn't really use Arcane Warrior (other than to check it out), I just pumped melee stats on my mages to use warrior gear, the game felt more balanced that way.

the arcane warrior pretty much is a melee mage. you should see some of the arcane warrior builds that are out there. granted I agree if you go arcane warrior needs to give you something to with the sword

and I think Ranger was a DA:O special class as well... it was really the only "ranged" class out there.

I would love for these hybrid classes to be available as new base classes in addition to the old warrior, mage and rogue. Like in ME.
