You are given complete 100% control over Mass Effect 4. What do you make it about?

I just don't want to be forced to hear my character called "Smith"or whatever.
Bigger, open world areas like me1. Not a hub with linear quests attached like me3.
The setting and plot don't matter to me all that much if the above doesn't happen.

Mass Effect 3
Done right.
I'm onboard with this. Still not buying another Bioware game until ME3 is completed.
nice to see we are in aggreement. i wish this could all happen, but the best chance we seem to have now is if DA3 practically doesn't sell, or wait a while until we need a remake. I doubt a remake would possibly keep this ending after the fan reaction.

If I had my druthers, Mass Effect would end with the finale of the trilogy. Good or bad.

I'd probably be up for something that blends the squad-based combat with a Master of Orion kind of galactic interface.

Shepard has to help rebuild the relay network, balance the politics of a shattered galaxy, fund the reconstruction of earth, oh yeah, and get the band back together to fight a revitalized Krogan warlord who's ignoring Wrex. (Also pirates, and Aria, and lots of Pirates.)

I am still hoping main character is like a space trader or something and goes through wormhole or newly discovered/activated relay into another galaxy, one that has new races, new worlds, new people, new companions and new story.
Maybe in that galaxy there have been other ships from previous galaxy who got caught up in it and sent there in the past many centuries ago (which could of got trapped and sent their prior to the war with Reapers so don't even know of Shepard or Reapers) and they formed colonies over those centuries so that some of the races from previous galaxy could also be present among the new ones.
The technology would comprise of similar technology for those races already know in their colonies and new technology that the other new races whom we never met before which are indigenous to that galaxy have evolved differently. The indigenous races have superiority over our known races colonies, their technology is vastly different and mostly superior plus due to population differences the indigenous races have dominance over the races we have met whom have smaller colonies in this new galaxy.
The two main things could do I expect is go down either the route of passing of time or taking place elsewhere.
Think about some of the most major scifi franchises like Star Trek or Stargate, Star Wars even.
Star Wars uses the timeline to create new stories, takes place in the future or past. Star Trek uses both timeline akin to Generations and Enterprise or new galaxy aka location type such as Voyager even to a degree Deep Space 9 then there's Stargate which uses the location change for example Atlantis or Universe. Personally I would want location change rather than timeline change even though would not be upset if they used timeline type. You also have ones like Buck Rogers which is timeline based set in future. Timeline based requires all much more reliance on what has happened before which is a huge limitation on ability to craft new story (imho), location change requires very little or no reliance and allows for more scope in the new story.
One thing I hope they never use is reboot or alternative reality. That would put me off buying it unfortuantly for three reasons...dejavu or events/people/locations, the invalidation of previous trilogies events and everything I did in it plus lastly also I would spend the entire time every couple minutes going "that isn't what happened..." and that would annoy me a lot.

I'd make ME4 Firefly/Cowboy Beebop meets Crusade (the Babylon 5 spin-off.) That is to say; a few centuries/millenia after the Reaper War, in the aftermath of the massive displacement and recolonizations, the galaxy is a much wilder and dangerous place.
The story follows a bunch of misfits, mercenaries and treasure hunters in an creaky rust bucket of a ship, out to search the ruins of previous cycles in search of "new" advanced tech they can sell to the highest bidder...or whoever they owe money to after that heist on Rannoch went south...
Maybe in one of the ruins they find something that shouldn't be there and what looked like the mother-lode turns out to be a pandora's box that could have galactic consequences and away the plot goes.
Basically I'd like a smaller more personal story. Less space marines saving the universe and more naughty folk slipping about the borders of what little law exists. The PC need not even be the captain of this ship. The first mate or even a stowaway perhaps?
I'd be down with a fireflyesque RPG set out in the fringes of the galaxy centuries after Shep's time. Personally i'd like the PC to be the captain or the acting Cpatain when the Captain is kidknapped.

I have no idea, it takes me a long time to come up with complete story ideas. Then i get new ones and those take ages while i'm still working on the first one. It sucks to have a chaotic mind.

You take the reigns of a planetary defense force during the Reaper invasion of the planet Planetium. Your main character, a human, is the commander of the defense and without leaving the planet amass a force strong enough to hold out until help arrives. The main villain would be a Reaper dreadnought named Conquest. Similar to Sovereign, he leads the forces attacking Planetium. Gathering allies, evacuating civilians, and fortifying a base location that culminates in your ending choice from ME3.

But, the antagonist would be someone that does illegal genetic modifications on sentient (sapient? these words still confuse me) beings... Oh, and they would believe what they are doing is for the good, since they are creating perfection! Well, their version of perfection... and they have a lot of followers...
Oh, and your character will be the weakest, damage wise, but most balanced of the crew... That way, the crew won't feel like useless decoys! And the story would take place 100,000 years after ME3, for the sake of freshness...
But, it would never finish, since, well, I tend to change my mind... a lot... and I am crap at organizing my thoughts... In other words, giving me 100% control is a terrible idea...

's easy: less shooting, and more exploration. More time to comb through a level/planet, not just "bang, bang. creepozoid dead--push button--next creepy--finished. Research-like missions with some shooting/fighting are fine, but not the not-so-well-working 3rd person shooter ME has become.
More possibilities to fulfill a mission without shooting the whole shebash to smithereens. A bit of detective-work f.i. Spectre-status could be interesting here. More dialog options that aren't pure good/bad. Being able to sneak, stuff like that.
To be honest, I just want a KOTOR/Dreamfall(!) with a bit of fighting/shooting, mish-mash in the ME-universe.
The premisse would be 100 years after the Reaper-war. The galaxy is slowly reconnecting the relays. The relays need some special parts/materials that can be collected by exploring different planets. To get the right planets, the player first has to collect and research Prothean artifacts with clues. Basic adventure/roleplay fare that I always liked.
When the relays are connected, they muck something up on one of them and it connects to a "forbidden zone" that's hinted at in obscure, recently discovered pre-prothean artefacts(asari could play a part here, being one of the oldest, non-extinct "civilized races" in space.) That "Forbidden Zone" harbours horrors that make even a reaper poop his metal briches... Or it could accidentally connect directly to a super black-hole, and without collecting enough materials to construct a giant drain-plug, our galaxy will go "ssllluuurrrrpp". etc etc.
Plenty of possibilities here.
Player could be anything from a merc, hired by the Council, to an Indiana Jones-like scientist.
Every planet should look unique, with all sorts of surprises, odd little tasks, like they had in KOTOR, despite the funny fact that most "planets" weren't much bigger than, say, 2 footballfields
On the other hand. Someone suggested a full game on The Citadel. Could work for me, IF it became more of a SandBox game with some touches of L.A.Noire.
in short:
-more exploration on different, sizable planets/locations.
-less shooter-ish
-more dialog (!!!!)
-more RPG
..and most importantly: No. Prequel!!!!

know what happens in the past, the in depth back story of the genophage, the
rachinni etc. The future is what everyone wants to know. What happens to Shepard,
her friends and love interests?
Giving the player more choice in character creation, be able
to choose any race and gender and back ground story relation to only the race
we choose.
The story could carry on from possibly 50 or even 70 years
later after the reaper war.
I would like my main character, depending on their back
story to not be involved in the military until they are forced to fight against
a growing threat of the galaxy, or unless they are an eye witness to the enemy.

How do you top a threat as large as the Reapers?
You don't, you contrast. Bring it right back to a far more personal story, with fewer, but deeper, characters. Focus on different things, don't have the entire story driven by a single overbearing enemy.
I was thinking the same thing, then I started playing DA2. I like the game despite it's many shortcomings, but the smaller scale of the story just doesn't feel right. Granted, I'm still not done with the game (just became champion), but I doubt it will change much.

As for something bigger than the Reapers, their destruction/control/orwhateverhappenediwasdrunk could open up new dimensions of terror. It could be the Reapers were not only used to solve the organic problem, but were also employed to keep other machines of dark space in check. With the hierarchy dismantled, a new race of aggressive synthetics could rise, utilizing all harvested information to make them even more lethal. Or not. I'm sure the writers will come up with something we all love/hate.
