I don't think a game where you're solely based on the Citadel would do too hot. The lack of exotic environments would take away from the adventure aspect. DA2.

I think it depends, a talented team of writers could probably make it into something good.

Not sure, what it would be about, but it would be a f2p MMO with strong MOBA elements and it would run on iOS and Android.

Stupid video game trends, I'm so too old for this new ****.

A parallel story spanning the period of Mass Effect 1,2,3 and post-ending. The story would be dependant on the choices you made during Mass Effect 1,2 and 3.

I make the game start with a better ending to ME3, using the concept I made myself.

Then I make ME4, 5, and 6. The Shepard Trilogy part II.

Complete control over ME4 eh?

TO..... MANY..... POSSIBILTIES!!!!

Firstly, devise a driving focus of the game. What's it about? Starting a story is easy. Ending one is hard, so you have to know what your end game is before getting to involved in the startup creation process.

Second.... tone. Is the story a 'bring everyone together' in a epic showdown or, 'one man and his squad went agains't the galaxy to make it a better place'.

To contrast the ME trilogy I'd start it off low key with low fanfare while providing a nod and a wink to the traditional aspect's of ME.

Let's say, a security officer, not the guy in charge, but who lead's a team of people, i.e. his squad. The facility he guard's is attacked and he is directed to head off several assualt's, all the while his team has banter dialogue option's that allows him to get to know them. As they race to the assaulter's objective they run into the man leading it and a fight ensues where the Protag is cut off from his squad, forced to watch as his team is ripped apart and then shot and left for dead.

Cue his recovery, and you have, in a nutshell:
1. What was it that was stolen and need's recovering
2. A quest for revenge / justice
3. The two above providing the driving force to propel the protag into a larger scheme.

Storywise, I'd go with a sequel that uses indoctrination theory as it's platform to tell a story of a scheme to unify the galaxy under one galactic ruler.

Being a BW game, where choice's have consequence's I'd look into the action's the player can take as being the action's that ultimately lead the Despot to take action's that are either bad or good. Kind of a polar opposite to the player so that if the player goes full renegade, the despot is paragon and vice versa. But still with the dead team member's and notion for revenge/;justice at it's core. Which would result in some interesting discussion's of how the protag can justify his desire's in the face of unifying a galaxy, for the purpose of defending itself agains't anything as bad as the Reaper's from extra galactic origin's.

Cue a closing shot of the milky way being blotted out by an encroaching ship and you'd be setup for a sequel.

Being ME it would have to be set out across the galaxy. Planet hopping is just to convienient an explanation to go from desert environment to cityscape to water world. I'd open up the world maps, make them more expansive and bring back an upgradable drivable vehicle that could be improved or swapped out for a Mako or Hammerhead, giving the player the choice to choose what kind of vehicle to use to suit their play styles. Some form of space combat could be added where space battle and boarding action's take place depending on who win's the intititive.

One other thing I'd add throughout the game. The battle for Shepards legacy. Everything that Shepard did could be spun by a PR machine that the player encounter's throughout the game and the player has the choice not to get involved, whereby the Despot control's Shepards public image and uses it to rally the people through fear or inspiation. Or the player is given the opportunity to set the recored straight and either develop a new public image for Shep, or bring his image in line with how gamer's remember they played him or her.

And just for giggle's, I'd add a set piece scenario where the protag has to defend him or herself from an attacking force while on the run. Only to be herded into Shep's old apartment, whereby the booby trap's Garrus and Zaeed installed could be used to defeat the attackers.

Well first... cannon one of the endings...
Make the enemy a less threat than Reapers, not threat to the whole galaxy but to Shepard personally.
Also more much more LI (Tali!), character development and RPG elements... give real/huge consequeces to important choices.

30 years after ME3. Destroy cannon ending. Start game out with a colonisation and rebuilding story. Repairing or building new relays is a focus. Also have a heavy political focus.

Uncover a mystery which leads to discovery of advanced race that originally designed the crucible but was unable to deploy it in time. Set them up as a species that can clone themselves and download/upload their memories from computer.

Once the crucible was triggered they "awoke" and started to rebuild themselves. They try to stir up chaos within the galactic community while they secretly rebuild their power base. Since they can clone and imprint memories they can have agents within top level governments.

The Leviathans would be in the background as a threat with their location unknown.

Edit : No Shepard.

I would rewrite both ME2&3 completely to give them spirit of ME1. I already have some plot ideas.
As for sequel... Well, that's simple. 30 years after ME3, Destroy is canon, Shepard is alive, you play as new captain of new ship, Shepard's child is in your crew.

In the aftermath of the whole reaper conflict, there is civil war. Species are on both sides. Protagonist (preferably Shepard - You know they can bring him back) has to fix it all again. Its less of an "oh noes - the galaxy is going to die!" story.

This is exactly what I came to post. Though if it's not Shepard that's fine, I'm not fussy either way with regards to that part of it.

I reckon trying to broker relations between races, scavenge scarce resources etc. in a tense almost post-apocalyptic setting would be awesome (hell, it worked in Fallout 3)

Ok.

I'd set the game after ME3 with Destroy and an import mechanic. Any games where Synthesis or Control are chosen would be non-importable, like Shepard dying in ME2. Refuse doesn't create a save file so it can't be imported no matter what.

It would be set about 10 years into the future as the relay network is being re-activated, more on that in a sec. The game would feature predominantly in the Terminus systems and the Traverse.

Background information.

-Destroy ending canonized, I'll go into the differences between EMS play throughs at the end.
-Geth are dead, this seems to be what BioWare meant to show, no head canoning them into existence. They might possibly be recreated if certain criteria are met.
-If the genophage was cured under Wrex, the Krogan have completely transformed their society. They have successfully integrated into the galactic community and are an active member of the reformed Council. If Wreav is in control and the cure was implemented, the Krogan have started expanding at an alarming rate, largely into the Traverse, largely into former Batarian territory. They have not gone to war yet with any other governments, but the murmurs of war have started, rumors of Krogan attacks on the Salarians and Turians. If the cure was sabotaged it does not matter who led the Krogan. Tuchunka has been devastated after the Reaper war and the Krogan's extinction has been accelerated. They have concluded by now that the cure failed and they have blamed the Salarians for it. They are in the midst of a renewed war with the Salrian Union, but it is hopeless and they know it. The results of the Genophage Arc will be mentioned largely in news feeds ala ME2 or by listening in on conversations of NPC'S.
-If the quarians were killed then the various governments will have passed a resolution in favor of allowing future AI research. If they survived they have become a rather insular power. Their fleet was largely cannibalized to rebuild and they are reestablish img themselves. They will not feature heavily in the game.
-The Rachni will not appear unless they survived, and will be mentioned in a news story only.
-The Batarians will have lost massive amou to of territory and are now largely confined to a few systems between Citadel Space and Kar'Shan. Since the destruction of the Hegemony they have been allowed to rejoin the Council races and have an embassy. They are largely working with the Alliance to rebuild.
-The four Council races, Turians, Humans, Asari, and Salarians have already made massive breakthroughs in Mass Relay tech and now have the ability to repair and re-activate the damaged relays. The main issue is, which ones should be rebuilt first. By the game's start the relay network in the Council Space and parts of the Traverse, and the more populated areas of the Terminus are operating. If Earth was effectively destroyed by the Crucible, then the Alliance has relocated to Elysium.

Plot.

-Starts out with a charcater creator like in ME1. You pick background, pre-game service, and class. The backgrounds are, Eathborn, Colonist, and Spacer like in the other games. Different descriptions of course though. The Earthborn will have been born into a priveliged life but left it. Colonist will have been raised on a small colony and left their home to make his/her fortune. Spacer will be largely the same. The pre-game services would be, Alliance Hero, served in the Reaper war and became well known for heroism and skill. Alliance Veteren, served in the Reaper war, but had a largely unnoticed career. Discharged after the war concluded and fell on tough times. Colonist leader, tasked with defending a Colony during the war, you became close to the community and have been there since.
-Conflict would be between the Alliance and the various Terminus/Traverse colonies. The colonies desire independence while the Alliance wants their resources to help rebuild. By this time the player has become an independent captain who works whatever work is available. The game will be building up to a massive battle between the Alliance Navy and the assorted colony militias. Over the course of the game you pick one side or stay neutral. Depending on your decisions through out the game one side will become more powerful than the other. In the end the side which has benefitted more from your actions will emerge victorious, regardless of which side you personally support.
-It will start with the player's ship landing on a planet to offload cargo to a local colony. The cargo's content is unknown and you deliver it. As it is being unloaded the colonists are raided by an Alliance team. You pick a side to fight with and make a retreat. After you flee you then enter the open world setting. The two hubs are an Alliance Naval station in the Armstrong Cluster and a Colonist base in the Kepler Verge. In both hubs there are three story missions to be undertaken. Each results in the sponsor's increased power. There are six missions in total but only five can be completed. After the fifth the end battle kicks in.
-There would be six squad mates. Two smugglers, a married couple, who support the Colonials. An ex-Alliance soldier who supports the Alliance. A batarian who once served as an enforcer on Omega. A Salarian scientist who fled Sur'Kesh after committing a murder. An Asari huntress who served in the Reaper war and now follows your command. The only LI on the ship is the huntress. There would be four other LI's available. One male Alliance researcher, one female Alliance fighter pilot, a Colonial intelligence officer, female, and a male Colonist mercenary. The LI's would be romanced in sub-plots that happen in between story missions.
-When your personal taste in Alliance/Colonist becomes more apparent squadmates will comment on it and act accordingly. The batarian and the two smugglers would be pro-Colonist, and the others would be more Alliance leaning.

I'll post what the story missions would be later possibly.

Anything with ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION to Shepard, Shepard's friends, or Shepard's deeds save for maybe a minor footnote or possibly an extremely brief Liara cameo.

Something with no big overarching threat like the Reapers, Leviathans, or the Yahg. The fun space adventures that we got to experience were always the best parts of Mass Effect, and I'd like to see more of that instead of trying to do something big, especially given how hard that faceplanted at the end of the first trilogy.

Generations after Shepard saves the Galaxy thru the 'Destroy' option, the Leviathan race re-emerges to regain control thru use of indoctrination. Adventures ensue.

Perfect!

Edit: it would actually be interesting. Would Shepard join the separatists, standing for freedom? Or would shepard join centralized government, standing for order? It would allow player participation in shepards story.

ME4 - You play different character that prevents Shepard from reaching ME3 ending.
