That is awesome!

Heh heh... sorry DaveT...

I read the title as:

*face palm* I fail at Sober

And I was like, me too! :o

I love the Sabre. I'm not getting a lot of excuses to use it while I grind challenges, though. Why, oh why, must I be grinding challenges while I have two, count them, 2! URs maxed at X that sit neglected. :(

I tried it at X and it didn't 1 shot cannibals, I haven't used it since.

:?

I... think you weren't doing it right. I can 2-or-3-shot Phantoms with a Sabre on Platinum. I'm pretty sure it can 1-shot a Cannibal on any difficulty. Maybe passives were the issue?

Headshots.
Shoot them in the face, they die.
Even shielded mooks, 2 headshots, one for shields health and another for health = dead
(possesed collector captains may be an exception, I can't remember atm)

EDIT - No stability, no scope. The weapons accuracy is great. Check this - I wasn't even intending to make a headshot vid.

you could use stability mods
or
you could place it on a turian which has stability passives already
or
you could take a slot and use the stability ar mod

take it from me which usually murders basically everything with that weapon when everyone considered the GI way OP... it takes a small learning curve but does crazy damage if you aim correctly while timing your shots

especially on a destroyer or TGI.... its absolutely monstrous. get more headshots with it than a sniper rifle.

I don't judge how good a weapon is based off headshots, if I did I would be a sucker for the suppressor which I don't like,  the saber is an ultra rare and sounds very powerful .. I just feel as though at max level it should be a one shot kill to the body against crappy cannibals. ITs like the crusader in the way I am more comfortable going up against a brute or an atlas than I would be a husk or a nemesis.

All it asks for is a little bit of finesse against troopers.
If it could single - body shot a cannibal/geth-cer-coll-troopers, it would be regarded as OP, of that, I am sure.

On an unrelated note - I just want to say I love the way it just chews through bosses.

I... I miss it.

I'm going to go play with it right now.

On the Paladin, maybe? I've been using the Mattock and the Vindicator for days, I wonder if the power will be too much for me, at first. I always need a little time to get it under control.

I can hardly wait. <3

I love the saber, it's a great gun especially if you aren't lagging. But today I had a game where I was rubberbanding so much, couldn't aim at all.

The gun is quite good when you have a stunning power to setup a headshot..

I guess its because I am sorta used to shooters before this, but I have always had very little trouble controlling the recoil.
Stability mod will do well, as will stabilization modules. With modules, you can tone then down as you get more used to the weapon, until you get to the point to where you can snap on a target and land consecutive headshots.

Also, you were using it on the Geth Trooper, correct? Do not fire it on Hunter Mode's max ROF, control your shots. Consider it even more... harsh training to sharpen your shooting skills. That is the only use of the saber for me, when I feel that my snap-shooting could use some more work, I use the Saber.

Scope makes the sabre easy to use, and deadly at any range too.

Recoil control is the key for any weapons with kick.

If you're on pc, move your mouse down while shooting.

If you're on console, move down your stick while shooting.

Or else, your weapon kicks upward and you'll miss the shots.

Mine is a level I, it's my go-to gun for kits I'm unfamiliar with. It goes well with my try-hard pants.

I can usually get 20 headshots with it by wave 4 or 5, I love the fact that you can play with it at range or up close. It's got tremendous stopping power.

So. Slim I take from Dough Nought's post that, not only did we out-headshot X-Box Jay but even D_Nought and likely some other Point&Win players... Yay for Ecks Bawks, and it was you who said Heroic was using mods xD

OP, some good advice already from folks who use the Saber ... now my two cents.

First, there is a learning curve, sounds like you are early into it, like someone who first picks up a Javelin, both are highly accurate, slow firing weapons, but folks new to them often struggle.

Second, yes, treat it like an iron sight sniper rifle, which means patient shots, not trying to blaze away. Early on, to get used to it, a scope might help, but generally, outfit it with AP+EB for best results--accuracy is not the issue, recoil is the issue.

Third ... getting used to the Saber requires developing a progression of skills, achieved over the time it takes to complete at least one challenge (140K) to wit

Start out using it from hard cover and focus on taking smooth shots ... at the head

Early on barrage gear and/or stability amps can help, until you get used to the recoil and learn the rhythm of fire that makes that a non-issue, then begin to ween yourself off these mods/gear/amps in favor of other options.

Progress to soft cover shots, again, focus on patient aiming, smooth "trigger" pull, get used to both the crosshairs expanding, then closing as the recoil subsides as well as the larger crosshairs in general

Drop the stability amps, but keep barrage gear for a while, as you get more comfortable with the recoil

Get a feel for picking up your rate of fire, by this time, you should be comfortable with aiming and shooting, now pick up the pace, keep the target in the center gap of the cross hairs as you prepare to shoot again

Keep barrage gear or not, eventually you won't need any stability gear, once you are comfortable with the rhythm of aim, fire, re-aim, fire, re-air, fire.

Finally, as some have pointed out, if you put it down for a while, then pick it back up again, you'll have to relearn some of your shooting skills, but the learning curve will be fairly short and you'll regain your proficiency pretty quickly. You'll find that the skills you learn with the Saber help you with a lot of other semi-automatic and single shot weapons, so it's not effort wasted.
Disclaimer: Saber is my favorite weapon in ME3 MP, individual results may vary. ;)

I like the Saber, but it's definitely one of the hardest weapons in the game to use. It's not all that accurate and the recoil makes it even more difficult. Just use it with Hunter Mode or Marksman and most problems go away. Also great on the TGI since he one shots everything with overload > body shots anyways.

The Javelin and Crusader are the only weapons that are about as difficult to use (not counting off-host projectile weapons).

One of my favorite ARs. I always use it with a scope and rack up the headshot kills. I agree with above posts though, take your time with it.. It's more of a calculated/ composed AR.

Actually when I shot 8 times at a charging brute and missed every shot, I WAS wondering if I had drank a bit too much sangria.

Try using a scope on it or use it on the quarian soldier

This. I always throw a scope on the Saber. And either the HVB or the EB if I'm using AP or Drill rounds. Don't give up on the Saber OP. It is a truly fantastic gun. Getting headshots is the key and using a scope will really help with that. When I first started this game I was awful at headshotting, now I get the 20 headshots medal with the Saber every time I use it. Just takes a little practice.

A scope is pretty much necessary. I use it almost exclusively on the Turian Soldier/TGI for that extra "umph", but it's almost criminal how easy it is to get headshots with the weapon.
