HI!
I am playing through Mass Effect 2 for the first time and I have intended to go back one I'm done. You see I want an optimal character for Mass Effect 2, and I can see a lot from my level 50 character, but am wondering about stat choices. In this case, the effects of the background/psych profile go through other than the followup email. Also does does any skill you unlock (say being an engineer with unlocked sniper rifle with the sniper achievement) port when you port the character? Basically, would I be wasting my time rebuilding my intended port using the unlocked skills and then once done with the same character different career and port them over.
Honestly, what I see stat wise from my level 50 character is a tiny amount of paragon and a lot of credits to start with. The choices are more important, but those I basically understand.
Thank you.
Stats that port into Mass Effect 2

No skills transfer from ME1 to ME2.
Your ending level in ME1 determines your starting level in ME2:
- Level 60 ME1 characters start at level 5 in ME2.
- Level 50-59 ME1 characters start at level 3 in ME2.
Story choices transfer, with some bugs. This is because some of the decision flags in ME1 are not set correctly, but these are all for minor and inconsequential decisions. The only really obvious one is Conrad Verner (assuming he is alive) always thinks you stuck a gun in his face, which is the Renegade decision. This is explained away in ME3.

RedCaesar 97 is right. The benefits of a Mass Effect import into Mass Effect 2 are dependent on the level you are at, I can't remember the specific levels and what the amount of a reward you receive but I do know what types you receive.
