After playing it for awhile, when I saw the usually opening movie for DAO. I started thinking. A blooded Duncan, in a beaten forsaken battle scene, with a tower in the background that looks like the tower of ostagar. Could it be that he surivived the battle, seeing the rising evil growing on the horizon. Since the King's Army&Wardens lost the battle of ostagar. I was thinking this way, until I saw the DLC for Return to Ostagar. After seeing the blades in that troll I was like, ah crap. Guess things don't add up, since those blades were on Duncan in the opening movie. But what do ya'll think. Do ya'll hes still alive.

Yeah but it flashes, before we can see it. Like a hanging ending

The troll thingie was killed by the magic beard. I believe regular darkspawn were coming for him. Or so I remember it, at least.

Guess so, idk even though the battle was already taken, Duncan seems too Bad-A to be killed so easliy. I'm only thinking its possible because of the opening movie. It looks suspicious.

Maker, I hope he's dead.

I hate it when writers can't let a character die. It robs the story of all drama.

Um if he did live where the hell is he? He is a Gray Warden sword to fight the Blight and all that. If he was alive I think he would try and find you seeing as you are you know fighting the Blight. So yes he is dead and if they did bring him back that would be uber lame.

Im still holdong onto hope. we have way too many hints, codex entries and knowledge to dismiss him so easily.

Again, what state he might be in is debatable, but I don't think we have seen the last of him.

If Duncan is alive, do you think he'll pull a Darth Vader on the dwarven commoner or the dalish elf who never met their fathers?

We know for fact that the darkspawn can take survivors back underground for whatever purpose they have in mind...duncan may have looked like he was injured (holding his stomach) but it would have been so easy for him to avoided that potential blow...

maybe he was taken back underground? We also know that he has been a Grey Warden for over 20 years...so his time is running out....maybe they have taken him prisoner? (just because w enever see any, does not mean they dont)....

Maybe they can sense the taint is strong in him and it wont be long before he goes mad or 'converts' ? (though as the main campaign takes around 2 years thats unlikely I'll admit)....

There are just too many holes to suggest imo that he died right there and then....

Guess only time will tell....

it would be possible for them to have him turn out not to be dead, but it'd be very cheap and cliche, in my opinion at least

Maybe he fell back to Orlais thinking the Grey Wardens at ferelden were all dead and he couldnt do anything to stop the blight there.

Well if you are right then we are in The Arciatect story in the Awakaning expanishion.  I don't know if you read The Calling but maybe he was taken back and offerd the same choice he was in that book.  Yet still I can't see him agreeing to anything The Archiatect has to say.

that certainly be a twist, the question would be why? Maybe if they don't kill themselves in the traditional way (deep roads killing darkspawn). Maybe the taint consumes them, and turns them into some type monster. Considering the mages uses lyrum/going into the fade to prepare for the ritual, who knows how potentially powerful a grey warden can be. Or maybe the calling towards the darkspawn to die, isn't really them dying, they just turn into more powerful darkspawn, thus continue the cycle of the blight. Though anything is possible.

hmm yeah, I think duncan still has a role to play, either dead or alive, I don't think his part is done yet, he has such a huge role in the game

I really hope he stays dead, but if he is alive I'm sure we'll know around Awakening time since the Architect sort of has a history with him.

I just hate when characters mysteriously come back from the dead, it cheapens the whole experience to me.

if duncans still alive he wouldn't of gone to find you because it would be (in his position) a good assumtion to decide that you were dead, and given the multiple time line options that you can start DLC he could be to weak to go somewhere to get help or could be surrounded by darkspawn and i think he would starve to death before he ate a darkspawn unless theres some grey warden blood/darkspawn eating secret we dont know abouit >.< imo they look yummy
