All evidence points to an Axe being embedded in his head

If he survives that then I may lose all faith in the DAO storyline!

If Duncan's alive, what was he doing in the Fade? Not that I wouldn't mind having Duncan pull a Mr. Spock, mind you....

Well we never really saw him get his head chopped off. So I guess there is a chance he is still alive. But I think if the Darkspawn got a hold of him they turned him into some sort of Darkspawn Hybrid, and since they have a type of group mind they share in the powers and talents Duncan has. Maybe just Maybe that explains why in the trailer for awakenings the Darkspawn not only seem able to have complex thought but speech as well.

Just a thought maybe we will see Duncan in Awakenings. :)

I really hope he stays dead, but if he is alive I'm sure we'll know around Awakening time since the Architect sort of has a history with him.

I just hate when characters mysteriously come back from the dead, it cheapens the whole experience to me.

its not really mysterious, we don't actually see him get killed, just a flash. If they showed him getting his head cut off, then he came back from the dead. That would be increbile.

Him being in the Fade doesn't mean anything - the demon knows to assume forms that will ensure you wanting to stay; we can see this in other NPC's nightmares (Alistair, Morrigan).

I suppose Duncan may have been taken to the architect and met a similar fate as Bregan in The Calling... but I'd find that a little far-fetched. Too much irony there.

That wasn't really him, it was a dream created by that demon remember. He was offering to do a better job at their dreams.

I hate it when writers can't let a character die. It robs the story of all drama.

This, this, oh god THIS.

Duncan is either dead, or was captured by Darkspawn (and all evidence in the Orzammar storyline suggests that captured men die pretty damn quickly there). Fortunately, I think DA's writers are good enough not to have to resort to such cheesy crap.

That darkspawn is the Architect, he/she/it is mentioned a lot in the second novel, as is Duncan so they couldn't be the same person. :P He could however be a minion of the Architect as he wouldn't be the first warden to do so...

they probably flashed duncan getting killed out because they wanted to option to bring him back in the future

i highly doubt duncan is working with the architect but the architect is an intelligent darkspawn so that does show that the darkspawn are getting more advanced witch may suggest things about what the architects plan is but i think the idea of the 7 old gods is going to play a part of awakening the only one we really know that is dead is dumat (the first one) and that could even be false

Duncan - ah - saviour of Thedas
Duncan - ah - he'll save ev'ry one of us

(Seemingly there is no reason for these

Extraordinary darkspawn sightings (ha ha ha)
What's happening Duncan?

Only Warden Alistair formerly of The Chantry

Has provided any explanation)

Duncan - ah - he's a miracle

(This mornings unprecedented dark spawn raid on Lothering

Is no cause for alarm)

Duncan - ah - king of the impossible

He's for ev'ry one of us

Stand for ev'ry one of us

He'll save with a mighty hand

Ev'ry man ev'ry woman ev'ry child

With his mighty beard

("Genlock Alpha, Duncan approaching"

"What do you mean Duncan approaching?

Open fire all weapons

Dispatch Ogre Alpha to bring back his body"
)

Duncan - ah

("Duncan's alive")

Duncan - ah - he'll save ev'ry one of us

Just a man with a man's courage

He knows nothing but a man

But he can never fail

No one but the pure in heart

May find Andraste's Ashes oh oh oh oh

("Duncan, Duncan, I love you

But we only have fourteen hours to save Ferelden")

Duncan

Maybe. I dont see why they would keep him alive tho. It said he was already hearing the "calling" so he wouldnt be around for very long, maybe thats why he didnt fight back in the fight scene.

that scene when he supposedly dies, when the hurlock alpha is running at him. They would've just showed him getting killed if they wanted him dead. Like with cailan (spelling?). He's alive fo shoe.

Yeah agreed, if Bioware wanted him dead, they would of showed him getting his head sliced off. And knowing the game, gruesomly I might add. Instead its just a flash, with a hanging ending like that, I think bioware is saving him for later. Which makes me suspicious:bandit:, that his role in the game is not done yet

He should be dead since the only rationale for his survival would be if the Darkspawn sensed the taint and carried him off for some goofy purpose but then ALL the Warden's should be alive under that same logic.

I hope he's dead.

If Duncan is alive then it won't be as a human, it'll probably be as some intelligent darkspawn if the talking darkspawn in the awakening trailer wasn't the architect.

I think it's safe enough to say that he is only as dead as the writers make him ;) They never did show the death, so Duncans death is presumed, probable even, but not a given. In the opening Duncan overcame single-handedly and survived. Axe's are heavy and perhaps even injured Duncan's are fast :P

Who knows really. I don't think having such a twist cheapens anything. If anything it gives the writers a bit of leeway, creative license ...more possibility of ways to take the story. Why would it matter to any of us really, when in a game such as this, even the dead speak to us and play a part of the existence? Because it suspends from reality? (she thinks about this while watching darkspawn in all their surreal glory)

I like Duncan enough that I would be happy to see him back in one form or another. Anger and rage can surprise you with what it makes one capable of sustaining ;)

well i hope he's dead because he should be ... unless he was only unconscious and some brood mother had an indigestion and spit him out ...

but with the magic in Ferelden it's fairly easy to 'bring someone back'. if he's alive i hope he turned in a zombie or something similar though. :P

I loved Duncan. I got really attached to his character in The Calling.
I would LOVE it if he were alive, but in a way I'd be kind of upset.
Alistair says that Duncan was going to have to go into the Deep Roads soon because he started to hear the call again, and Origins takes a year or so in game-time, so by that time the taint would be pretty far along if he did survive. I would rather Duncan be dead than Duncan be alive and a ghoul. That would just be sad because he would definitely have to die by the end of the game.

Of course, knowing the sick twisted minds who made this game and love being evil, that just might happen.
