What do you mean you can;t romance, Liara, Ashley, or Kaidan; if you are continuing the romance from ME1 then you are most definitely romancing them and continuing that relationship. Don't be so short sighted that you discount them.

I was saying that you've ALREADY romanced them, which means by Casey Hudson's statement they don't count, he clearly said "ME1 characters that you haven't been able to romance before," you could romance Liara/Ashley/Kaiden before...Plus they just plain don't count, because as I already said, you can't continue a romance in ME2 that wasn't started in ME1.
Infact you are short-sighted because I can see through the eyes of someone that never played ME1, so if someone new plays ME2 and runs into Kaiden/Liara/Ashley on the street, why should he/she bother trying to romance these characters that they didn't even know were from ME1 or why should they care, they don't know who they are at all.
That is why they don't count as LIs/romance options.
There's a reason that LIs are squadmates, because you have continuous access to squadmates since they're on your ship or in your party at all times, you can develop a relationship, that's why LIs will ALWAYS be squadmates and anything else is a fling or in the case of Liara/Ashley/Kaiden, already set up in ME1 where they were squadmates.

Ash is human, humans split up all the time, she has been dealing with your death for 2 yrs,if you come back and break it off,it won't be that hard for her to accept, the 2 of you will not be together anymore, since she has been living with the fact you've been dead for 2 yrs...
She was on the ship she saw you die...

Why are Tali threads constantly being misnamed? This should be TALI LOVE 8 or something.

Because I started the original "Tali Romance?" thread before I even knew there was a Tali Love thread series, this is technically my thread series, and I like the name lol.

Oh be fair! Its easy to lose track; there are so many of them, and sometimes they've even run concurrently (with 'unofficial' love-threads budding off the main ones)

Sure but I'm just saying why LIs will always be squadmates, never in the history of gaming has there been a true romance option/LI for someone who wasn't a squadmate, only flings.
Take for example DA:O, I can name 5 flings right off the top of my head, but the true romances were the squadmates.

Umm I never said a new player can start a relationship with Kaidan, Liara, or Ashley; you assumed that form some reason but I never said that. I said you can continue them. Continue implies that you started it in ME1; perhaps it is semantics but they are still LIs if you started that track in ME1. That is what I am stating, nothing more and nothing less.Xena_Shepard wrote...

Now the new people yes will all be squadmates; I won't contest that and never contested it to begin with.

Xena not every1 on the normandy is a squadmate some just work on the normandy, giving you access to this person at all times...???...
Yes I know but squadmates also go with you everywhere (if you choose to take them with you), they have to fit those two criteria, they have to actually matter to you the player.
Sure Joker is hilarious but you only see him what, a couple hours total out of the game? I never even talked to him (willingly) my first playthrough of ME1.
And to prove my case I bring up the example of Kelly Chambers, she's on the Normandy but not a squadmate, and only a fling.

You might want to quantify this with BioWare games, because I am sure this isn't the case. I can't remember a BioWare game that had deviated from this format but I am sure other game companies have.Xena_Shepard wrote...

I guess we aren't understanding each other then, I was just saying the fact that continuing a romance with Liara/Ashley/Kaiden doesn't count as an LI/Romance option because thats only if it carries over from ME1, if you start a fresh character in ME2 they're just cameo characters.
You gotta look at this from the perspective of someone new to the series, they'd think. "Wait what the hell? Why are they romance options? I don't even care about them, they're not my squadmates,"

I was simply saying why moving on to a new LI,isn't a bad thing in ME2.
Yes you have an exp. of a fling on the Normandy,I'm not fighting for a non-squad to be an LI,Just wondering why theere couldn't be if there on a much bigger Normandy all the time, going on a suicide misson also.
The crew is also risking their lives for you,why wouldn't you get to know some of them...
Engines,Life support etc..,theres alot of non-squad important ppl on the normandy why don't we get to meet them?

Nothing against the poster but as the Salarian Council member said; this is hardly compelling evidence.

I will agree to that.
But the insinuation that the past Love Interests don;t count for veteran players is laughable.

Oh I understand you, I was just adding that if you started romances in ME1, then you can consider the romance a apart of the game for ME2, they still count. Also without some kind of definitive post or quote I am usually skeptical when someone says something like:
Casey himself said in an interview that non-squadmate 'romances' shouldn't count, as 'your romances are with your squadmates'. I can't remember where he said it.

Well yes in the romantic sense they count, but I'm saying they don't count as romances to BioWare when they write up the game. Like they don't go "OK they'll get 3 romances per gender, but one of those counts as their LI from ME1" I was simply saying that's not the case, it doesn't count as an official romance/LI.
