Although it's kind of a boring class to play I'm a big fan of making Shepard a soldier. Makes all the heroic stuff she does more impressive than if she's a space wizard or a technomancer. Also Commander Shepard is a woman, duh!
When you think of Shepard, what class do you associate him with?

I will give you predator for his tac cloak, but what part of Rambo was sneaky. he used cover just like the 3 more physical sheps use. the only thing batman and an infiltrator have in common is the use of tec, batman doesn't sit and snipe at enemies.Data7 wrote...

infiltrator is jut too sneaky for an out front hero (what I think he is)
I take it you've never seen Rambo or Predator?
Not even Batman?

The Alliance paid for Traynor's university education but that's not really the point - I can't see someone who dropped out of school aged ten-twelve (to do jobs for the gang that would get older members noticed or arrested) catching up fast enough. I just can't see gangs sending their kid members to school or teaching them trigonometry when they could be selling drugs or such. Not necessarily. Earthborn Shepard ran with gangs, there may have been someone in those gangs that taught Shepard things like hacking and decryption (which is extremely likely all things considered). Or Shepard may just have an affinity for technology. Also the Alliance will pay for education in trade for a certain amount of service time. Which is how Specialist Traynor got her education it could have been the same with Shepard

When I think of my Shepard, I associate her as a Paragon Colonist/War Hero Infiltrator. I know the default Shepard is a soldier but each one has their own "canon" Shep so it's difficult to associate Shepard only with a class in my opinion

Female soldier. Earthborn and ruthless.

For me, Shep's an infiltrator. She's a soldier, but rather someone belonging to a special task force, specced for covert operations. Infiltrator covers that better than soldier, which might be just the usual grunt.

What part of Rambo was sneaky!?
Uh, I dunno maybe the part when he covered himself in mud and blended into the Forrest wall.

Now that is 'Active camo'.
Or maybe the fact that he killed a whole bunch of guys with out even being seen at all pretty much! XD
(using various tactics and methods)

My first (and the one I identify most with) Shepard was a Vanguard Colonist War Hero =)
Always liked the idea of a warrior with some extra skills (like Battlemages etc.).

Male, Spacer, Sole survivor, Infiltrator(focusing on weapons and tech skills as more of infiltration skills and hacking) =)

Shepard is clearly a soldier.
I play as an Infiltrator since the first time I touched ME 1 and got to the class selection screen ("Where is sneaky-sharpshooter-guy? Ah! Select."
Regardlessly, I always saw Shepard as a soldier. He may break all tactical planning down to a three people infiltration unit, but you end up not being able to move on without shooting everything dead anyways in each encounter.
Tactical Cloak is a nice addition, but it's more of a parachute-getaway than a sneak tool. The Infiltrator worked best with planetary exploration in ME1, sniping opponents from a hill two kilometres away... So yes, the game heavily implies Shepard is more the assault rifle whielding grunt, and not the one to criticise Kai Leng's clumsiness, like my headcanon Shepard would.
