I think I mentioned this in another thread, but I really love Garrus as an example of the difference between Renegade and Evil.  He's like the ideal of the compassionate renegade -- going in hot to take down the guys threatening Dr. Michel, for example. He wants to help people, wants to stop the big bad guy and save the galaxy and protect the innocent, and he doesn't have time for rules and regulations that slow him down.

Patrick Weekes on Shep and Crew’s First Christmas:

i can imagine shepard's first christmas with tali onboard being really awkward. first he gets a box of chocolates for his little shotgun-toting engineer buddy, but then garrus mentions that quarians are amino-dextrous, so the chocolate would kill her.

shepard then remembers her love for both tech and shotguns and ponies up for the best shotgun on the market, along with anti-synthetic ammo mods. he drops by wrex to have him check them out, only to have wrex mention that during one of their elevator rides, tali mentioned her pride in her tech and salvage skills, such that she'd rather make weapons than buy them, and would never like a purchased weapon for a present. wrex then adds that that's an awfully big box of chocolates, and wrex would be happy to hang onto both it and the new shotgun while shepard figures out a new gift for tali.

at this point, shepard says "screw it!" and gets her a gift card at omni-gel emporium. just as he's about to sneak it into tali's stocking (one of six hung up over the galaxy map, one of two with the big toe-sleeves, and the only toe-sleeved one that doesn't have "garrus vakarian" stitched on it, with "spectre" stitched under it and then crossed out with "c-sec officer" stitched under that, in turn also crossed out with "galactic bada" stitched at the bottom and clearly not quite finished in time for christmas), shepard hears joker laughing about the system they've just passed, which has survey teams selling planetary rights to barely habitable worlds for cheap. and shepard remembers tali's stories about what happened with the geth, and how her people are homeless, driven from their world.

in the morning, as they all gather in c&c to unwrap presents, tali is confused by the wrapped box that contains nothing but a card... until she realizes how hard it is to wrap a new homeworld.

(liara is, by the way, really touched by shepard's thoughtfulness in getting her that omni-gel gift card.)

Common Misconceptions Addressed:

Misconception: “You can’t kiss Garrus; Turians have no lips!”

Answer: Actually, Turians do have lips, they just aren’t as obvious or as flexible as human lips.  If you watch the videos of Turians speaking, you will see that their upper lips are, in fact, flexible and do move during speech.  They also have lower lips which appear to be much less flexible but they do still move.  Therefore: kissing would be a possibility but you’d have to adapt, not to a lack of lips but instead, to a different mouth shape.

M: “Garrus has a face/body made of steel, if you kissed/slept with him you’d be injured!”

A: Turians possess some scales, yes, but their faces at least are very pliable and soft.  The Turians have thickened skin plates due to the unusually high radiation levels of their home planet, Palaven.  These “plates” help them withstand radiation, but they aren’t hardened enough to withstand bullets, blades, etc.  Particularly with the Purgatory Gameplay Video, you can see how the warden is a much older Turian and his face is very wrinkled; their skin is pliable and soft, just very thick.

If you watch videos with Turians closely, You'll notice that their brows, foreheads, and cheeks are also flexible enough for movement.

M: “Turians have a Dextro Amino Acid (DAA)-based biology; he’d die if he ate our food, kissed Shepard, etc.”

A: Actually, not necessarily.  Their DAA biology requires them to eat DAA-based foods for nutrition.  However, their response to eating our food is variable and dependent upon the individual Turian in question.  The best-case
scenario (and very likely the most common) is that our food, Levo Amino Acid (LAA)-based, would pass through their systems without consequence.  They would gain no nutrition from it, but they wouldn’t be harmed.  The worst-case scenario: LAA food triggers a severe allergic reaction (such as anaphylactic shock) and would require immediate medical intervention.  Then you have the whole spectrum in-between.  The Turian guard on Noveria is rather fond of donuts.  He’s likely one of the lucky ones.
