I'm kinda hoping Samara is there to be the stereo type breaker in regards to the Asari all being kinda.. yeah. regardless of whether we get Garrus or not.

Agreed. The Asari might have been created to be fanservice, but the devs have been trying to expand their race beyond that. They'll undermine their own efforts if they do that with Samara...she's a big chance to start turning the perception of the Asari around and making them more than two-dimensional characters.

I actually think that's part of the appeal with Garrus, for me. He was never created as or intended to be a love interest. So when they created his personality and backstory, they actually (I think) made him more normal. I felt like...hey, now here's a guy who's well-adjusted, is his own independent person, and is interesting. He just seemed more real. So...it always seemed like he would be a great guy to build a "relationship" with since the design perspective was more realistic than it was for the LI's.

I hope that made sense, because I feel like I'm babbling. XD

Of course it makes sense. The moment a character is created to be a love interest, they lose something. Like they can't be anything else, even if they are, with a strong backstory and everything...

But yeah, I don't want to hate Samara. And they could easily make 4 options for each gender, using SuZe and Thane as ambivalent options. Garrus and Tali could be ambivalent options as well, but I see that as VERY unlikely, because we already know them and it doesn't fit as naturally.

Come on, look at SuZe. And I doubt women that find Thane attractive would complain about seeing him make out with male Shepard.

But who knows... maybe they didn't have time for them, or whatever. Just because it's the logic, fair option doesn't mean it'll be there (sadly remembers the first weeks of playing ME1, falling in love with Garrus, assuming he was an option, only to learn that Liara... well, you know the story.)

Haha, yeah...Liara. ^^

Well...don't get me wrong, I don't hate Samara. I don't know her character well enough to say for certain, although if she sticks to her Justicar code I think she'll be very compelling. What I don't like is what she could possibly represent: a threat to Garrus. >:(

But yeah, it's as if, when they design characters to be LI's, something's lost in translation. You can just tell...yeah, this is meant to be an LI (*cough*Liara*cough*) and sadly they don't ever seem to stand as strongly on their own as independent "persons."

I'm hoping the devs were able to do these characters justice this time around (LI's or not). When I interact with them, I want to get that sense of: this character isn't fanservice. This character stands independently on their own and is compelling apart from Shepard.

Garrus did that in the first game and hopefully he'll do that in the second, be he an LI or not -- although I lean heavily towards believing he will be. Granted, that's probably due to wishful thinking from my fangirl heart. XD

I really wish BW would stop teasing us like this...because I really, really want to know about Garrus. I mean...is it for something good that they're holding back, or is it for something bad? I'd like to think the devs are holding back and teasing us because they know we'll be incredibly happy with what happens in the game, but then the cynic in me tells me that people are cruel and they're quiet because they want us to buy it before being disappointed. :crying:

Come one guys, we need a discussion. I have a question for you guys, Garrus's monocle, does he look better with? Or without it?

Apologies if this has been asked before.

Heh, we need to drag the others over to this forum, too. (I hate bumping my own thread as well...so...if anyone sees it slipping and I was the last to post...don't be afraid to chime in :P)

Hmm...Personally, I always viewed his visor as a tool that goes along with his uniform. I don't think it's the visor that makes him attractive (although as with a uniform it can add to his appeal), because I think he'd look very attractive without it on. So I'm conflicted. ^^;

Edit: *sigh* It would also help discussion if BW would toss us some more bones to gnaw to pieces.  I mean...you can only pick over something for so long. XD

A little teaser for those interested in fanfics...I was very bad.  I started a second fanfic...that pet project that I've told you guys about that's been floating around in my head? Yeah.  So...I'm working on the one-shot "Wolf Pack" and a little something I'm calling "Syzygy" at the same time. :P Working title for now, it might become permanent...just because it kind of fits.

I love the monocle, but that might just be my love of futuristic eyepatches/visors speaking.

Wonder what kind of info the HUD displays him...

I couldn't imagine Garrus without his scouter. How else will he inform me of the enemies' power level?

Shepard: Garrus, what does the scouter say about his power level?
Garrus: It's over nine THOUSAAAANNND!

This actually might go a long way toward explaining why I find Garrus so irresistable. When I was a wee lass, I had a mega-crush on Vegeta from Dragonball Z. He had that scratchy voice, and the "I do things my way" attitude. Garrus is very similar.

Not to mention Vegeta's spiky hair - spiky edges of turian faceplates? :P
Garrus luckily has a better fashion sense though.

When discussing something this epic, we need to have a video.  Say it with me! t's over nine THOUSAAAAANNNND!

Vegeta always was a badass. :P But Garrus' visor is still more awesome. *nods*

I'm pretty sure it has to do with him being a tech-type.  I gather it helps him gather battlefield data, field tech support, help him with tech/security/etc., as well as aiding in sniping, and in general looking like a badass. *nods*  Basically an all-purpose tool for a techie.

"This video contains content from Funimation Entertainment, who has decided to block it in your country."

Man I run into this on Youtube often nowadays.
Oh, and we need to post moar and catch up to the Tali thread

It's Garrus' mighty Omni-Visor! For looking cool and griefing geths.
He could also do a CSI thing with it, keeping it turned off most of the time, but clicking the display on whenever he delivers a crime-related pun. Or just a cool line, imagine him doing that when the talks about krogan testicles for instance.

I'm on it, Kriselia. XD Speaking of Garrus visor display, I found some articles on something insanely cool and that I think perform similar tasks to what Garrus' visor does. I present to you: Augmented Reality in a Contact Lens and Contact Lenses with Circuits.

Insanely interesting (if you're a nerd like me XD), and definitely something I'm looking forward to (no pun intended). I imagine Garrus' visor is capable of far more complex processes than these contact lenses, but I think they might lend some ideas as to how Garrus' visor works.

I just laughed. so. hard. at that image.

The two stand over a sparking, near-dead Legion.
Shepard: So... what do you think, Garrus?
Garrus: *flicks on visor* He could've used a few legions of back-up.
Shepard: ....

Oh wow, I had no idea something like this was already being cooked up.
Contact lens displays do sound promising, but I wonder if they'd strain the eyes a lot.

Haha, oh gods the opportunities :D
But Shepard needs to be careful, if Garrus comes up with something like that he'll definitely deserve to be the galaxy-saving protagonist with a state of the art ship. Could Shepard deal with just being his sidekick?

I imagine only if you tried to focus on them.  Probably no more than regular soft contact lenses.  Garrus' visor would probably cause more potential eyestrain due to it hovering over the eye instead of being right on it.  That said, even Garrus' visor might cause no more strain than wearing sunglasses.

The info both would display would just "magically" appear like it's "on" whatever you're looking at.  Think the T-800 from the Terminator movies.  You look at something and info "magically" appears next to it.

Now the contact lenses would likely only be able to do simple tasks, but Garrus' visor has the potential to be able to process for more data and perform much more complex processes due to size and that this is a futuristic world. XD (Okay, I'm taking liberties here, but I think it safe to assume.)  It likely runs off its own powersource and he might even be able to control it wirelessly with his mind.

Such wireless interfaces do exist.  I present the Emotiv Epoc Neuroheadset which allows wearers to control computer applications and games with their mind.  It uses EEG technology (which is well-established by now).  Now assume more complex and fine-tuned technologies in the future and perhaps we can start grasping at what it is capable of.

Now that I think about it, the only advantage a visor like that (what with hovering over just one eye, seems distracting) would seem to have over lenses or eye implants and some such would be that it's probably easier to turn off or flick aside.
And the way it coils around to the back of the head does suggest it's linked to the brain one way or the other.

Maybe he just watches the newest music videos on it though.

(Edit: Typing at 5 in the morning doesn't seem to be my strong point)

Heheh...we think Garrus is hard at work with the Mako...but in reality he's lurking on FutureYoutube and recording witty one-liners. XD

But I agree and also think that the visor can be made more compact.  It appears that the "screen" (which really appears to be more like a holographic projection) sits on what looks like rails.  I would hypothesize that Garrus can "slide" the "screen" back along the rails to move it out of his line of sight.

Being linked to his brain would also enable him to very quickly and naturally access and assess any data from the HUD itself.  It might be remotely tied to his weapon...for example, he could theoretically have his rifle and visor "paired" and be able to "aim from the hip" and have the visor translate the appropriate data to let him know if he's target-locked or not.

It could be a useful tool in assessing battlefield data: number of enemies, infrared, etc., as well as assessing who is shooting where and what.  And so forth.  Couple that with reacting at the speed of mind and Garrus' visor proves a very formidable tool.

EDIT: Lol, that's alright, It's about 11pm here so I'm not doing much better. XD

I bet he'd watch all the videos with his model replacing the player's char

It would probably be nifty to have it linked to all his gear, so he could constantly see things like shield strength and weapon heat/ammo. For all we know, Garrus could be running around with a HUD just like ours :bandit:
