It's a new documentary about the Amityville haunting from the POV of Daniel the oldest son and available on iTunes etc.
Now I have time to actually post lengthy ramble on it here goes
It is an interesting documentary which shows just how much damage the events or rather story of the events has done to a person. I'm not really sure even by the end if Daniel actually believes everything he recounts and in some reviews people accuse him of being naive and not quite bright. I'm not sure I agree with that, if anything he comes across as being fairly intelligent and that for most part is playing a role as the victim of a haunting. I don't actually think he really believes it and is just acting that way, the whole production kind of veered between 'serious' parapsychology and him rolling eyes at things before going into a whole diatribe about the reality of the haunting.
It is difficult to describe, he just comes across as faking it and the documentary feels more faux documentary, more focused on showing the absurd nature of the original story and the complete craziness of the hangers on who got involved at the time.
The Warrens especially get a less than favourable presentation, Lorraine coming across as loon who carries wood from Christ's cross but doesn't want to show it to unbelievers in the room, while Daniel rolls eyes before launching into an argument with documentary maker about how he is atheist. His reactions are all over the place which only add substance to the 'he's faking it' scenario.
The back story on George is far more real. It's obvious that he was a control freak who knew about the murders before moving in, lied about previous history of fascination with occult and was very controlling. Daniel glosses over his history, stating he hated George, tried to kill him a few times and left home at 15 too be homeless in desert. That aspect was never fully explored and even the 'investigators' involved at the time recount experiences of George which show his arrogance, control and how he had anger problem.
The actual haunting memories Daniel brings up appears to be more akin to fabricated tales or exaggerated accounts based on George telling him it happened and even from watching original movie and convincing himself it was true. But again I'm not sure the actually believes.
One story he tells, the windows crushing his hand, could be true but like everything has been exaggerated and confused over the years. He says that he had his hands on windowsill under open window, his brother enters the room behind him and the window slams shut on his hands. It given whole ghostly aspects of spirits did it and how the window opened and closed repeatedly during the 28 day haunting and he remembers it clearly.
Now I believe the basic facts, but not the paranormal explanation he recalls. The truth is that a similar event happened during subsequent investigations and the reason was not ghosts. The sash windows and the house where old and there was a floorboard in that room that if you stand on it in a certain wat it levered the sash window across the room to fall. This is proven fact, so truth is his brother stood on board, window slammed on his hand but no ghosts involved. At the time it was inexplicable but not now, but it shows how a child's recollection of events could be warped into believing all manner of stories created by a controlling parental figure.
Not done yet but typing on tablet is pain
