Why waste the time to even put this in. So I can customize one set of armor, or they could have spent that time creating even more armor. Not customizable, but there is at least some choice.
So I see two situations here.
1. People have spread rumors that only the N7 is customizable. I don't know why people would think it's the only armor in the base game.
2. It's in fact correct and the Dev's wasted a hell of a lot of time giving us something half done, when they could have gone the traditional route and design probably a dozen more armors?

So wait, this much lauded armor customization only affects a SINGLE armor out of likely at least a dozen we aren't aware of?

I believe that all armours that are shipped as part of the game (N7 etc.) are fully customizable. The pre-order only downloads (Collectors', Terminus and Inferno) are not customizable. All in all it's more likely that the majority of armours will be customizable it's just that only one of the armours we've actually seen so far is customizable which is causing people to wonder.

That doesn't make any sense. The armour customisation involves changing all aspects of the armour, shoulders, arms, legs, chest, helmet. There isn't one N7 armour, there's just armour pieces you mix and match. If by your thinking after changing the pieces of the shoulders, chest, arms and legs of the N7 armour, it's still the N7 armour, then yeah, there is only one armour, but that thinking is just... wrong.Xivai wrote...

There aren't single armours, apart from the preorder stuff, there's just armour pieces and the stats are attached to the pieces. Apparently there are sets of similar items however that create a cohesive design that grant an armour set bonus though, if you consider that a different armour.
Look at this screenshot. Clearly the 'N7 Armour' is an armour set, but you can take the pieces of the N7 armor and swap them out for other pieces of armor, or you can not use any of them and use pieces of other sets combined, or all from one set.
It works like Dragon Age, it's just there is a bit less variability in the design of the pieces because of the IP.
Anyway, personally I'm going to customise my armour to look something like this:

You have a point there. Hopefully we can upgrade the stats on them.maladosteo wrote...
Chances are I'll use the armor once or twice and then put it away for good. Usually the perks you get with CE stuff don't last much longer than mid-point of a game.

I don't really like the collector's set, and I like both the terminus and inferno sets.

Maybe, maybe not....the Blood Dragon Armor in DAO was the best armor you could have...followed by the Warden Commander armor...which was from the Warden's Keep DLC...hopefully that will not be the case in ME2, but its possible...
I just hope I can wear the Blood Dragon Helmet with any armor...I'm all for looking like a cylon all game long!
