While i was watching Ancient Aliens season 5 episode 12  on history, i notice that they are talking about stone spheres, then this came to my mind:
  From the show
  From Mass Effect
coincidence ? If you know what im aiming for:)

@OP, Bioware may have been aware of these things when designing the Prothean/Leviathan Orbs, and they may not have. its impossible to really know..

What if aliens created stone spheres and left them on Earth millions of years ago, and our entire conception of spheres is based off of them? Kinda like Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

It's a sphere. It is one of the basic geometric shapes. There will obviously be some overlap - if it had been a cube, you'd be wondering if it was an intentional portal reference.
