...the endings are more like ME1 and ME2's and NOT like ME3's endings.

What will make you want to buy ME4?

...it doesn't need Origin.

...EA sticks with publishing instead of meddling with great gaming companies.

completely new story that's either set way into the future or perhaps a prequel where you plays as a turian, either on the citadel and then go into the old style of ME gameplay, or even something sandbox style like GTA in the ME universe, just...you know.... with less crime and stuff

I honestly don't know.

We don't know who, what, where, when, or why at this point, but it'd take quite a pitch for me to buy into a direct sequel.

...if I have the money.

I blame that damn college tuition eating up most of my budget.

 1) It has absolutely no connection to the roiginal trilogy.  No returning characters, no canonized endings.   a complete tabula rasa

2) "Heroic" endings more in keeping with the first two ME endings and DAO.  At least as possible endings.

3) Less emphasis on cinematics more emphasis on roleplaying mechanics.  Like a functioning dialogue wheel.

4) ideally no multiplayer, But at any rate, this time true segregation between SP and MP.  If people don['t want to do MP, don't force them to get the "best" ending..

5) Stellar reviews from players whom I trust.

Even then, I'd likely wait until the end of the DLC cycle.  Especially is there is multiplayer.

I would say join the military, but with recent sequestering, there's no money to be had from there anymore.

I went from making nearly $4000 a month combined for Drill for 2 days a month, Montgomery and Post 9/11 GI Bill, TA, GI Bill Kicker, volunteer pension for working as a junior instructor at University of Chicago's ROTC battalion, and a National Guard stipend that fronts me $300 a month for living expenses as a junior Officer in college getting my Master's. Plus a few Veteran's Benefits for a 7 month tour in Afghanistan.

I was essentially being paid to go to school by the National Guard, with the only real work being 2-3 days a month for Drill and "instructing Cadets in PT and playing OPFOR on Labs".

Now I'm barely making $750 a month off my two GI Bills and my ROTC instructor stipend. And I don't leave for BOLC until November. Nearly 2 years after I commissioned. I'm on involuntary in-active drill status because the state can't afford to pay my paycheck.

And I'm one of the lucky ones. Sequestering has completely neutered the Military's ability to pay for college for its servicemembers.

As long as it's a prequel to the events of the trilogy, I will at least read reviews and consider it. Otherwise they'll have to make a certain ME3 ending canon, which I am strongly against for the obvious reasons. And if it was a sequel that had no canon ME3 ending, it would render the choices of ME3 irrelevant (quarians/geth, genophage, Starkid decision) which is even worse.

The playable races, specific setting, plot, etc, I really don't care about as long as it's done well.  But for the love of god Bioware, do not make it a sequel.

I'm with you on that one brother!

...and yes the majority of BSNs community are a bunch of entitled assburgers.
Half of the threads made these days consist og either "waa waa if bioware doesn't give me this or that i wont buy the game"  or even better "Hurr durr i hate Mass Effect and EAware but for some reason i still lurk on BSN forums 24/7"

Well I´m interested in the new game but will decide if we see some trailers and actual gameplay. Still, can wait to play more games in this universe.

i will purchase if...

-ME4 will be a sequel of the original trilogy
-Destroy as canon ending (or at least possible ending to decide at the beginning of the game)
-It brings back RPG elements similar to those of ME1 (Loot, inventory, exploration, vehicles..)
-It eliminates or severly limit auto-dialogue.
-BW knows how this next possible trilogy will end from the beginning.

Origin would be a big nono.
ME3 was the first and will be the last game I ever purchased for Origin periode.

It tells a complete, great, coherent story with gameplay that's on par or better than previous entries in the series.

Still may not be full price... but do that and a purchase can happen...

There is no 'if' for me.
I'm buying it.
I could deal with the issues I felt over the other games.
I'm sure I'll be able to deal with issues I may or may not feel in the next game.
If there are no generic lady npcs I'll be sour; but I'm not the type to boycot.

You can expect my preorder and all that cheese.
I like the mass effect concept. I'm willing to fund this concept.

Never say never. I will say possibly. It depends upon a number of factors:

* will it require an always on connection to play? If so, no -- but that goes for a lot of other games as well.
* will it require multiplayer to get the best result? If so, no -- again that goes for a lot of other games as well.
* does it allow me to play a female protagonist? If so, possibly.
* does it get positive reviews from other players? if so, possibly. In these last two cases see the first two cases.

I'll use the same criteria I use for any game.

If it looks good.

For me it is simpler.

I will buy ME4 if it is available on store shelf. No way I am not gonna buy, unless they make the protagonist in the face of Justin Bieber.

Ya know what WOULD be an interesting prequel? If we got to play during the Prothean era. Getting to see all the other races as "Primitives." Salarians licking their eyes and eating flies, Quarians looking hot out of their suits, human cavemen and illiterate Asari ^_^

If it will be completely DISCONNECTED from previous ME games... and no save-import.
Even if I own all of 3 games and loved them.. but they where supposed to be a stand alone trilogy.
I want something fresh...

Maybe I could appreciate one or two returning characters (Liara or EDI), just this.
