I'll buy it IF the following conditions are met:
Mac Walters & Casey Hudson (is he still Executive Producer/Project Lead for this one?) promise to let the rest of the (and lets face it more talented) writing team get involved in writing the ending and don't just cobble one together between themselves at the last minute, as it SEEMS like they did last time.
After release I see enough positive reviews from players regarding the game AND it's ending.
The game isn't simply a CoD clone in the Mass Effect universe and is still recognisable as a Mass Effect game.
The story and characters are engaging and side quests are not just reduced to "go fetch" quests like most of the eavesdropping quests on ME3.
They have a functional journal/quest log.
I Will Buy Mass Effect 4 If....

Buying ME4 or whatever it ends up being called is for me a matter of when, not if. I will buy that game, even if it's a fps prequel set in the turian Unification Wars.
I do however reserve the right to complain vociferously if I'm unhappy with my purchase.

I will buy it... If it has absolutely nothing to do with the Shepard trilogy... or if the gameplay is fun... and if I manage to buy one of the next gen console/a really awesome pc... oh, and if I have money to throw around... Damn University... should have went to community college...

...there appears no Liara in it
...moar races
...Protagonist's race can be chosen. Always wanted to play as a Turian, nope. Humanity still is it.

New story, characters etc. I would quite like a prequel. I am not sure that anyone else can follow in Shepard's wake.
But I will need a lot more details about the game before I would commit to buy. I would most probably wait until reviews came out from both the industry and fans. Then make a decision.

- I can play as alien races, even if its just the 4 main council races, although I would love to play a Renegade Batarian.
- Has multiplayer with customizable armour and mp story missions.
- Every Mass Effect 3 gun returns
- It is part of a trilogy

If it is a sequel, with a new story and characters, but still set in the familiar Mass Effect universe.

As long as it's on sale.
And, I suppose, as long as there's a new cast. Long-runners can stay - Liara might re-appear if it's set later, cos she's likely to still be alive - but resurrecting Shepard would be a bit cheap. Even then, I'd be tempted. Love Mass Effect. All of it, so far.

Since I know nothing about it, I don't know, but basing it solely on the current climate of BioWare, (and gaming in general), I'm not interested in ME4 in slightest.

considering how the series has gone so far i won't be buying ME4, unless the customer reviews after it comes out a really good.

They sure as hell know how to not end a game now so I'm not that worried about it. It's just that Mass Effect has equalled Shepard to me and that's going to be a large question mark whether or not I can attach to the character in this. In theory I'm interested about this but it I don't know... They fooked up so many things lately (in DA2 and ME3) that I'm not sure if the game will be decent. Though if they learn from their mistakes...

...it gets a good review from gamers (don't trust official reviewers). I bought 3 simply because 1 and 2 were awesome, after 3...I'll wait and see what sort of feedback it gets before investing.

This.
Actually, I got ME1 used cuz I didn't know anything abt it. It was recommended by this guy at the Gamestop. I luvd it. I got ME2 brand new cuz I luvd ME1.
I luvd ME2 and pre-ordered a CE of ME3. While I waited I got into the DA series cuz I wanted to see what else this BW company made. Luvd that, too.
ME3 had a few problems besides the endings for me. One big one was that I couldn't import my Shep from the first 2 games. It was a hassle. So, I was irritated before I even started the game. *shrugs*
We'll see what they say. What ideas they have. And how they want to execute these ideas. Idk much abt the Montreal team and what they can do...besides the Omega dlc.

-they make it. I'll even pre-order the collector's edition because that's who I am. (Mass Effect brings a whole new meaning to collector's edition.)
Following are requests I would like.
-preferably prequel.
-entirely customizable character, including species, gender, and physical features.
Everything after is a deal sweetener.

I will buy the Collector's Edition.
but my goodness at the entitled gamer syndrome... Face it, humans made the mass effect trilogy, so of course it isn't 100% perfect [like how the last 10 minutes out of 40 hours that is ME3 wasn't great]. People make mistakes.

As Shepard's story is over, chances are very slim that I'll be buying it. To me Shepard and his/her crew are a very big part of what made Mass Effect what it is.
I still don't understand why they decided to end the story so soon with such a great protagonist.
It's like a new Halo without Master Chief, a new Metal Gear without Solid Snake, a new Zelda without Link etc etc.

Probably depends a bit on what setting they use. I'd definitely like more from the Mass Effect universe but curious to see what they will go after.

I'd buy it regardless, to be honest, and test it for myself.
It's be awesome if it followed ME1's example of story cohesion; ME2's example of Shepard interactions, character-foucs and story scale; and ME3's example of interaction between non-player characters.

I think that I would buy Mass Effect 4 IF:
1. It is a sequel to Mass Effect 1 and 2 with shepard in it
2. It is a prequel to Shepard's Mass Effect
