but Black Widow is a weapon that can potentially make any kit Gold viable...

That's why I used it on the SE on Gold while working on the Commando Mastery.  Black Widow =

Innate piercing weapons like the Black Widow and Crusader have nothing better unless you want to stack penetration and equip Geth Scanner.

Aww Fate, there are good puggernauts out there!

For me, it's any squishy biotic class with a geth spitfire or a combination of Javelin + Crusader. Yes I have witnessed this load out on an Asari Adept

Crusader is admittedly a bit light on ammo without the Clip mod, but most of the others work fine without it...

No.

They're not tanks. Calling them tanks imply they draw attention well, but they don't. Why the hate is because they generally make for bad teammates. They're slow, they're obstructing, they have the damage output of tissue, and way too many players just spam their melee. They just survive, they don't actually contribute.

Now there are some who play them well, but unfortunately its uncommon.

Any Jug that can stay alive is awesomesauce, and Jug that can't is about the most annoying thing ever. Most PUGs fall into the latter...

I tried out Hex Shield damage build.
Spam Hex Shield with heavy melee in between. Soloing, Gold, Reapers, gave up on wave 4 after being forced to rocket Banshees to meet timer on elimination objective.

Had trouble filling a lobby one time so my buddy and I equipped both a Javelin and Spitfire on Volus characters. It was a race to see who could die fastest(lobbies fill pretty quick after a game finishes win or lose). 

First time it worked like a charm but the second time we tried this days later and the matchmaker added 2 really unlucky sods during the load screen. Glacier Platinum Reapers full extraction with half the team running suicide loadouts.

Roughest game ever...apologies and huge thanks to those 2 randoms.
