Favorite as Characters:
3.Oghren(possible tie with Shale for the same reasons >.>)- awesome, awesome comic relief, plus alongside Sten he is one of the characters where you actually feel rewarded when they consider themselves your friend.

2.Morrigan- Totally chalked up to excellent writing. I still don't know what to make of her, just when I think I have her figured out I realize I'm probably totally wrong. Kudos David Gaider(and team ).

1.Sten- I found Sten to be an awesome character. It's a great feeling when you earn his respect.

Favorite for gameplay reasons:
3.Wynne- What can I say, she comes preset as a healer and that's just all kinds of helpful

2.Leliana-You get her early on and she comes in handy for picking locks and disarming traps, useful if your PC isn't a rogue.

1.Shale-Hands down makes the best tank in game, and it doesn't stop there as Shale can also do a little bit of everything, and do it well.

I like taking Alistair or Shale for tanking. If i tank myself then I take Sten :happy: recently I've started having Sten with me everywhere possible
just for the hopes of getting to talk to him about "something he said",

Dog simply for the fun in overwhelming enemies
morrigan for either the cc or aoe, depending on what character I am playing

I don't dislike the other companions but I guess this is how I'd rank my favorites.

I find my opinion on who I fancy more varies depending on my mood. Usually when I have a lot of free time, I just sit and listen to what my companions have to say, rather than being blunt about it and ending the conversation quickly to get to the meat of what's going on. For this, I tend to like Sten and Leliana more, if only because they're both just so difficult at first. Sten's too frank, and Leliana's too much of a fake. I love Wynne especially for this, since her story and experiences are really interesting once you take the time.

I'm just glad I tried to get through the game as quickly as possible the first time around. I think it adds more replayability that way.

On the topic of my first playthrough, I did just want to bash some skulls in. Oghren, Shale, and Morrigan were at the top of my list at that time.

Alistair's too whiny, and after a certain event in his plot, ends up being a selfish prat if convinced to be so.

I hate Zevran's accent.

I played female PCs first, and my favorite companions were Morrigan, Zev and Alistair, with Lel coming in fourth. This held true whether my PCs considered them as the primary fighting team or as personal companions.

I thought that might change when I played male PCs, with Lel moving up a spot or two. Surprisingly, when I played a male, Lel fell further down (holy cow, is she ever annoying!)! My top three were still Morrigan, Zev and Alistair!

Wynne is in the middle, no matter what. She's a great addition to a fighting team but good grief, stop being so darned preachy!

Oghren (uncouth with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever), Sten (ok, I get it, you're stern, ho-hum) and Dog (I don't like dogs, period) all share the almost-bottom rung. Absolute bottom is reserved for Shale. Shale doesn't even have the decency to be gracious when I give it a gift.

I must say, however, when playing a female PC, it is fun to take out the all-gal team every now and then. What a hoot! Morri, Lel, Wynne and me. We're quite fearsome. Sadly, the only way to take out the all-guy team is if my PC is a mage. Not gonna happen.

One of these days I'll have to do the deep roads early so that I can get Ohgran into the team.  By the time I get him I'm usually pretty well settled.



For utiillity though, I always use Morrigan unless I'm playing a mage myself.

You can get Ohgren without going into the deep roads. You just need to do all of the pre-Deep Roads stuff which can be done at any level. Getting Shale and Ohgren is probably not a bad idea but I have never done it like that. I always get Shale as soon as I leave Lothering. But then I head to Redcliff and next to the Mage tower. After those I do the Ashes quest. It always seemed that the story is writen to flow like that. Then I go to the Dalish and do Ozzamar last because the Deep Roads are extremely hard at lower levels.

In a fight it depends on what I've made but generally I like to take Alistair and Morrigan. The last member is interchangeable for me. Leliana if I'm a non-rogue character and generally only for her deft hands, and Sten or Zevran if I am a rogue character. The dog is kind of cool for a time. I don't really find any use for Wynne really so have rarely brought her out with me, must be my gameplay since I see many people like her.



I had a rogue archer and ran with Alistair, Sten and Oghren for a while......that was fun. They were like an impenetrable wall while I rained down death. But I likes me some magic too much to leave Morrigan out of the fight for too long.



Personality and Conversations my favorites are Alistair and Morrigan they are the most complex characters in my opinion. Cracking Morrigan's shell is fun and I actually think Alistair's jokes are funny. And I absolutely love talking to Oghren, there's rarely a conversation with him that I wasn't falling out of my chair in laughter! And those three paired in a group brings out some of the funniest companion dialogues while running around in town. I'm also fond of Sten but he comes in fourth here because of the challenge I had getting approval with him.
