That's kind of appalling how BG has 52k downloads and the next highest mod is like 100. I get people trying a mod and not finishing it but how are they not curious enough to even bother trying anyone elses when they obviously have nwn2 installed and ready to go?

Please explain vault 2.0 what is it?

I think it is encouraging. If ten percent stay then we have a chance of new blood, the community can only gain from people putting NWN2 back on thier hard drive. Iam amazed to be frank. I would have thought 10K an good number given the download rate for the current top 15 ....

PJ who said anything about 10k. I said 100. As in 100 downloads not 10k or 100k.

I just figured with bg getting 50k overnight ( and this may yet to be realized) people would go from there and try the other mods. If even ONE percent did so, that would make for 500 votes average for everyone else's work.

Sorry, I was not clear EE, I meant that 10K would have been a good DL rate for BGR, that alone would have given me some pleasure in terms of potential new arrivals. 46 - 50K will hopefully see quite a few new faces staying to try out the other sweeties on the shelf.

I think it wont be soon though, BGR is 80 hours. Even at two hours a night that is more than a month and most won't play it that fast, many will play it twice before coming out to see what eles there.

Conversely they might not and we might be right where we are now, low in numbers and support but fixing things and improving our lot as a community. For me it's all good.

That 52k might represent new purchases of the game. Especially with NWN2 being sold in the big DnD bundles for cheap online (GOG has a 20-game DnD bundle for about $20 right now) lots of gamers have bought the game but never got around to playing it, or were prompted by the news of BGR to pick up the game for cheap.

Many of those players might just spend their $5 to get a taste of the old school, maybe 20 hours or so, before getting distracted, but hopefully some of them will spend some time drifting through the Nexus/Vault and find some community-made module that interests them enough for a play-through.

More than the new players, I'm hoping that BGR's success will get some attention from the industry, especially the new distributors like Steam. It proves that a community of modders can keep a game alive, and give new players a reason to buy it seven years after release. That deserves support, in particular in terms of making it easy for novice players to find and install mods. They would be wise to include certain community-made utilities as standard in a new 1.24 patch.

BGR did not get 50k players, Nexus counts each file downloaded as a separate download, BGR has six required downloads to play it, so each player counts at least six times in that download count. The 50k downloads is the total of downloads for all the parts, if you look at the required files each required part has about 7500 downloads. That's a more accurate count of people who downloaded BGR.

That makes good sense and I can see that you're right. I had never looked at a download page on the nexus before.

Of course that means Tales has only had 6 downloads instead of the 41 it shows at the top. There's me thinking I was doing well

When i downloaded the release version for checking we didn't make mistake with it, it only counted one DL and not 6.

But yeah Drew and I Downloaded the 6 files once, so the count isn't correct.

I activated your account within minutes, but I notice you've never logged in. Did you receive an email that your acct was activated? Could you double-check your email?

I use a variety of methods to verify accounts. In your case, I simply responded to your post here. In other cases, I check the email against that used to register on the old vault.

So far, no spam accounts have gotten through, but I worry sometimes that legitimate accounts are being blocked.
Edit: Spam on the old vault is out of control (Hiya Kick-bong!), and one of my primary concerns.

I don't know know if it is the right place to post it.

Anyway, I can't reach the Vault (url address not solved) since more than 20 hours. The Vault web site looks off line. Ftp access still  looks on though.

Have you guys the same issue? Would you know what's going on?

That would explain things. So far all these issues (3) have been invalid emails.

I'll delete the current account so you can re register with your chosen handle. Give me a minute and then I'll be waiting for your registration.

Edit: Done. Register at will :-)

Sorry gentlemen, I'm not as familiar as you with the Vault Preservation Project. I just browse this forum from time to time.

As far as I know, no announcement was ever made on the Vault itself.  Neither about the VPP nor about what can appear as a rather 'brutal' Vault's shutdown. Many people are probably thinking that the Vault  is maintenance. If it lasts too long they just may dump NWN definitively. I'm pretty sure that no NWN/NWN2 French forum is aware of that move.

For now, alll Vault's content just looks lost!

Are you going to move all previous content? Have you an estimate of availability date?
Will all accounts be automatically moved or must people register again?
Are you going to automatically redirect previous Vault's url to the VPP site?
Why is not the previous Vault available until the move is completed, at least in read only mode?

Please kindly understand that people can't just poke around this forum to figure out what's going on, especially non native speakers, let alone people who don't even know what the VPP is..

Kindly write a sticky post clearly giving all explanations. As for me I can forward the information to the French forums, as soon as they get available.

Thanks in anticipation.

We're currently doing an automated scrape to speed up things appearing on the vpp site. We have all the data, but the scrape will speed up the conversion.

The Vault is owned by IGN, so we don't have control over it and can't keep it in any mode or auto-redirect. The VPP started the last time the Vault was "down", when it did not update for a month or two. Pain, Rolo Kipp, and some others have done a lot of back end work. I'm just contributing bandwith.

This Vault shutdown was unexpected and unannounced, so it's a bit of ok, as quickly as possible now.

Thanks kamal.
Nevertheless I would really appreciate a FAQ about VPP  in sticky mode, based on the questions I have raised, and other question that people in charge of VPP may imagine.

I'll gladly translate it to French; this way is much easier for me :P.  And relay it to French forums.

We are in the process of migrating all the previous content.
I don't know when we'll have it all available, but we are working together as fast as we can.
We have some account data, but the best way is to register yourself on the new Vault.
We have asked IGN for a redirect to the new Vault. They've said "That should be possible".
Does that help somewhat?

Kindly write a sticky post clearly giving all explanations. As for me I can forward the information to the French forums, as soon as they get available.

Please do let them know!

I was on the vault when suddenly, I saw the BSOD and then when i restarted my computer, that's it, can't get any of the pages from the vault to load...I thought something must have gone wrong on my side...argh!

Thanks Rolo.

Redirection would help because many people have probably bookmarked Vault's pages. And Google wil still show the Vault first for some time.

Late here. Will relay your info (and register) tomorrow. Nevertheless a more complete FAQ would be appreciated.

Go check the thread in the NWN1 general forum. Has the IP of the site which can still be used to access it. Details other options also.

Yes, its just an issue of lost DNS info...

(Fix Repost)

To edit hosts: load notepad, open file and paste
"C:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers\\Etc\\hosts." (minus the quotes) as the
filename, and it should open file for you :)

Next add
"69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com" (minus quotes) as a new line at the
bottom, save, restart your browser, and the Vault should be alive and
well.

Cheers!
