and here I thought the council were hard to convince of their 'not seeing/understanding' the actual reaper threat..

Then enlighten me: What is the Reaper threat?

I'm pretty sure it's neutralized in destroy. The Reapers are destroyed. Gone. Vanquished.

Their bodies, their hulks, remain. They are empty shells. There's nothing alive in them or about them.

That's a treasure trove of technology and information to be exploited.

Understanding is not necessary for resistance. At least not in regard to their motivation.

I'm fine never knowing what the Reapers were ever about as long as they are no longer a threat.

In fact, hearing what they're about and looking at it, I see them as even more of a problem that must be eliminated. No matter the cost really.

Usually, observing what your enemy does is more effective than listening to what it says. Especially if your enemy is known to be manipulative.

Doesn't really matter what the Catalyst says once I know how to Destroy.

I know, that's what I've been saying for quite a while Arg...

I'm not just talking about harvest either. Way too simplistic, considering the time and effort involved with the cycle. I'm doubtful of prolonging chaos as the form of resolution to the MEU problems. Folks cannot use reaper tech at all, if they choose destroy. But even with that, destroy doesn't completely end the reaper threat. AS the reaper threat isn't with the reapers at all...that's the catch many miss in hope of a quick and dirty  effort .

know how to use the catalyst to destroy the catalyst to destroy the reapers to destroy the technology that makes the MEU possible?

No, I'm pretty sure the reaper threat is those big ugly squid bastards trying to kill us.

harvest you, no out right destroy you..technically speaking. To each their own.. the game does threaten you, so I can see why you get scared of reaperships..

High EMS Destroy only damages the tech. It's stated and shown that the damage is repaired in a short amount of time.

And even if it was destroyed completely, I'd still sooner choose it than Synthesis.

What's the difference?

I can kill you, cut you into little pieces, put you into a kebab, eat you, digest you, and **** out your remains.

Going by the Catalysts logic, it's still you right? That's my opinion of the harvest.

It's no different than being outright destroyed. Even worse since you've been supremely violated and melted down into pasty goo to form the basis for gestalt intelligence that is more or less the same as any other Reaper.

when does logic defeat it's self? I often wonder, when it occurs here on the BSN..

Out of curiosity, what do the Reapers actually do with Drell?Harbi states in ME2 that there aren't enough of them make a reaper.

They kill them or huskify them. Or indoctrinate them.

Do they ever do anything different?

Yeah. Harvest what they can, pervert or kill the rest.

Just a slight correction to the OP; they never mentioned how long ago the Crucible was conceived. The Catalyst just says "several cycles ago," just wanted to point that out.

No doubt the Crucible blueprints have been around for a long time so it's possible one of the races could have conceived of Synthesis idea and incorporated it in. A lot of the moral hang ups with Synthesis seem to lead people to believe that no one other than the Reapers could conceive of it(i don't believe that).

I was hoping for an answer from the "preserves".

Well, the concept behind synthesis itself is broadly similar to the real concept of transhumanism.

The issue comes from how it's enacted, why it's enacted, and the effects of it being induced.

I don't think anyone intended for it to be used the way the Catalyst wants it to be used.

I was wondering how can one head canon their way around the fact that Drell cannot be preserved.

I don't try to. I'm sure there are enough to make a Destroyer though. Or perhaps the Reapers have an acceptable threshold for extinction.

Hell, I don't even believe that the Reapers preserve anything at all. They turn every race into another Reaper.

It's not preservation, it's conversion. Whatever or whoever they were before, they're a Reaper now.

Yes but the DNA is still there, even if it is twisted a bit. The collecters in ME2 prove this. The DNA survives and their knowledge is preserved as well. Protheans operated most things on a system of memories and sensor images. They had gotten this presumably from the Inusannon and they presumably got that from the race before them and so on and so on. The Reapers are based on The First Apex Race, Ex. Leviathan, and they operated on a system based on the power of the mind and telekenetics. Coincidence? Think about that for a moment. All technology leads back to the Apex race and their technology. How did we learn about the Mass Effect? From the ruins of the Protheans and they Learned in from the ruins of the species before them. The Reapers are also based on the power of the mind, shown by their indoctronation and ability to break minds. This would allow them to easily gather the information stored in memory based beacons, databases, ships, computers, ect.. This is speculation, but it seems to fit alot of facts.

Because that is how factual information is extrapolated from data bases, that in all practical purposes, sounds/appears as noise.(not unlike astro-physics find out about stars lost/unfound..)

But, the fact(in game) that the catalyst restores ALL harvested races IF synthesis is chosen, just like it provides that ALL reaperships and it's "self" is removed from reality of the MEU. Folks who intend to justify destroy, or "UN" justify synthesis, usually, if not always, omit that. Those harvested DO have a chance of being recovered. That is a fact, not speculation at all. Hence,"The Destroy Solution"... won't work any more..Image IPB
