Expose youself to the max amount of enemies, use all you powers not just your guns (you get a "control" bonus for your score). AOE powers to affect multiple enemies gets your hands dirtier than just focusing on one enemy, assist points can be your friend. Dont play against disciple888.

+1

But also trying to get you highscore often, in my experience, leads to scoring less. Because then you are running around more without really thinking about what it is you are doing, which often lead to you getting downed. Just take care of each enemy systematic and don't do any misstackes. Don't focuse to much on bosses, but shot them so they still follow you so they don't run off and get killed by you teammates. And fragsteal of you get the chance.:P

I don't know about being elite, but one thing I've noticed is that once the bosses come out, most PUGs ignore everything else and concentrate on the bosses, while I go around killing the sub-bosses and mooks. With the amount of time it takes to take down those targets, you could've cleaned up a hell of a lot more non bosses worth more points.

You do still need to know how to kill things very quickly though, as well as getting to the spawns first, which involves being able to predict them.

If that fails, bring armored compartments and go to town on wave 11.

Bolded is really true. Works for me especially if I'm sniping. The teammates make it even easier by dragging bosses' aggro on them, leaving the easy mooks for you. Both sides get their profit, you get the points by protecting them from embarrasing deaths.

Also as someone mentioned, knowing the spawns and others' positions is really helpful. Knowing what the budget of the current wave is another key IMO. If you look around you from time to time you can notice more than the others, giving you the ability to predict what's happening next.

If you don't reach a spawn fast enough, look for another one elsewhere. There is usually another spawn arriving to flank your teammates. If you get the jump on flankers, it makes the entire match easier. Especially on 'officers' such as Marauders, Collector Captains, Phantoms, Geth Hunters, Dragoons, and other dangerous mooks.

Learn enemy spawns so you can catch more than one at a time with your powers/grenades.

Use an ammo mod to get more of the desired combos(probably not best on a biotic team)

Stay alive. Your damage output drops to zero when your bleeding out.

You're as good as any player I've come across and this is excellent advice that I would do well to adopt.

From what I observed the key is movement and positioning.

Average players tend to stay in one spot for way too long and get overwhelmed. Better to change your position and harass the flanks. And if you see 3 of your teammates attacking a spawn go find another one. If you can flow with the situation you find yourself always shooting at something, which leads to things dying which leads to a high score.

Jeremiah,
Thanks for some solid feedback!  I'm not concerned about score, but intrigued about what tactics, strategies, considerations the top players use/employ to be as good as they are. The differential between players is too large sometimes to simply be physical (reaction time, dexterity, etc). Just curious as to the mental aspects that give players an edge!

Ok, this is quite a different thing from talking about score. Don't be misleaded by all the attention ****s around here: score isn't the way you judge how skilled a player is.

It's an indication, and the only objective one we have. That's the reason why everyone looks at it.

But it's so flawed that, honestly, it's just a general indication of how good that player is, nothing more. That is, IF they play the objective waves right. If they don't, no amount of scores matter, they're scrubs. The worst kind of players you'll ever play with, period. No skill in that.

So, provided that objectives are always the first thing on objective rounds, and that you understand that score is just an indication... I feel I can land some advices about how to kill stuff faster, which ultimately leads to the game being faster and you scoring more. I might not be an elite player, but after hundreds of hours of this game I can safely say I'm a solid player at least.

1. The first thing you need to understand is that there's no kind of defense in this game that works better than a good offense. That is, the faster you kill stuff, the less you're under fire, the less you die. The best offense is also the best defense. So, you should never spend your time in hard cover, waiting for your shields to regen. Well, almost never. There are a few exceptions. You should not because that's wasted time. You should always use soft cover and position yourself in such a way that you can shoot without being shot back. And, you should always use your time for either killing stuff or running towards the next thing to kill - there's nothing like "ok I'll hold my ground here and let them come for me". Nope. You go for them. Aggressiveness is the key word here. You need to rush the spawns and start killing the enemy as soon as they get onto the map.

2. Follows directly from the first: when building your character/choosing your loadout, always keep the offense in mind, not the defense. Shields, health, fitness... They're not important. So long as you position yourself correctly, you won't need them. There are a few exceptions, namely those character which needs to be played up close and personal, like vanguards. And in general, any character which has a hard time avoiding fire (like dodgeless kits). As a rule of thumb, you only want to invest into fitness and/or cyclonics ad shield cells if you either have no reliable way of avoiding fire or if you don't have anything better to go for.

3. Learn the mechanics of the game. I can't stress this enough. All the in game descriptions are either misleading or not tsaying everything. And I mean all of them. Not counting the enormous number of bugs around. You need to know how to get the best out of your character. To do so, you need to be on these forums. No other way.

4. Following 1. You need to learn how to predict spawn. When high level players play together, who kills more is pretty much only dependant on this. You need to understand where the enemy will spawn, based on the position of your teammates and you. Not much to say here, it's a matter of experience. Playing this game and rushing the spawns over and over again, you'll learn how to predict them.

5. Learn to prioritize enemies. The order in which you should kill stuff is: subbosses -> mooks -> bosses. You should always leave bosses for last, and never engage in combat with them unless you are forced to; or you don't think you can reach the other enemies before the rest of the team kills them; or you have no idea of where the rest of the enemies are; or, of course, if there are no other enemies around. If you rush the spawn and kill all the subbosses but the bosses are still up and not too damaged- you should run to find another spawn. Don't engage bosses.

Uh, that's pretty much all I can think of right now. Maybe I'll add something later...

Oh and... Inb4chinacalledtheywanttheirwallback

Don’t play with elite/top players is probably the simplest and easiest way to score high, because those guys tend to really mess up your score hogging. Then the trick is just to stay alive and kill things, so long as you can count that your team doesn’t do either, you should naturally score pretty high. If it’s about killing enemies fast / efficiently / stylishly, then it gets a bit more complicated. Nuking spawns never hurts though. Happy to help, OP!

1 - Know where the spawn points are
2 - Based on the position of your team mates, guess/deduce where the next spawn will take place
3 - Get there and wipe them out
4 - Repeat

Also, try always to get as many headshots as possible and learn how to get the best ammo/powers combinations.

I normally score well in gold with one of two characters, both Sentinels:

1. Krogan (the original, not the clown-hammer)

Max for defense with tech armor, ignore incinerate, go full shields on fitness and full weapon damage on class skill.

Wield a Reegar with AP ammo and the AP barrel. Also, extra clips. The Reegar normally has a penalty against armor, but it will chew through it like crazy with the anti-armor mods. The extra clips means you don't need to hit the ammo boxes as often.

Take a decent assault rifle as a backup. I normally take the lancer or harrier. The falcon can be an interesting pick. Damage is so-so, but the stagger at range can really save your collective asses. I don't recommend a sniper rifle, as you should not be that far away, and will probably need lots of ammo. You'll mostly need it with objectives like hacking when you can't move forward to engage the enemy with the Reegar.

I prefer the stronghold gear, and either extra shields or shield regen for the armor. Shotgun rail for the weapon mod.

Use your grenades to soften up groups before mopping them up with the Reegar.

Weight is no object, as you're not using incinerate, and should never be detonating your shields.

This is my favorite setup by far. It works best against Geth, but well against all. You have to be careful about getting out of the way of things slightly faster than you would otherwise, since you don't have dodge.

I don't worry about raging. Not needed if you take cover and use the Reegar. Don't get surrounded or you'll die pretty fast, and watch for powerful ranged units. Stay near ramp/stairs if you're expecting banshees/phantoms/etc. Small rooms are your friend.

2. Paladin

He's squishier than the Krogan, so cover is key. Ignore the higher shield evolutions (I know, heresy! Just my preference!) He's best against Geth due to the energy drain. You'll always have a steady source of enemies to restore your shields and give you damage reduction.

If you're facing a larger group of enemies, stay behind cover, out of sight, and spam snap freeze. It goes through walls.

At close range, use snap freeze, and detonate enemies with energy drain if they're synthetic or shielded, and otherwise use incinerate. At long range, use incinerate followed by energy drain. You can't snap freeze at long range, which is why I prefer this class only against Geth. His ability to tech combo at range is limited against non-synthetics.

Which leads to...

Use a pistol or SMG for 200% recharge with a damage amp. mod. Consider using disruptor or incendiary ammo, as it can help prime tech explosions, not that you really need the help with this class, though this does give you ability to setup for a combo at range against non-shielded/non-synthetic foes.

I know this is all a bit disjointed, but I hope it helps (tl;dr, AIR?)

I think the key to consider is:

A class can score a lot of points if it can deal lots of damage quickly and repeatedly. With the above classes that comes in the forms of the Reegar and tech combos respectively.

Thats basically it for me. When the team does well, I do well, but not great on the scoreboard. If the team doesn't do well my score goes through the roof. I prefer the first variant by far.

Oh, and one more bit of advice with the Reegar:

Play on PC so you can reload cancel. It makes you able to kill about twice as fast.

Learn to predict spawns based on where the rest of your team is located and don't be shy about using equipment and other consumables.

And my personal favourite, try to get on a team with 2 or 3 Geth Juggs, that's almost a guaranteed 200k for me.
