Am I the only one here who plays for the objective and tries to keep teamates alive? Winning means nothing to me.

I'm pretty sure most people here giving out tips don't care about the score. I certainly don't, but the tips I provided happen to be the smartest way to play the game given the way the wave budget system works. If it happens to be a high scoring tactic, so be it.

Same here. I play to make the game end successfully and as fast as possible - nothing else.

Here are my two cents....

The most important ability is awareness. Knowing the patterns of enemy movement and spawn are key to not only getting kills but staying alive. Knowing where the spawns will be based on the position of the squad increases your offensive and defensive effectiveness. Knowing when that pyro spawn behind you is going to catch up and knowing where to dump your cluster grenades are both key examples. It's important to know where to go once you're finished dealing with a group of enemies, and being aware of enemy movement/spawn patterns will make you more effective at doing so.

I think the second most important skill is an understanding of builds and strategies. Knowing what works best with a class is important, albeit not as important as some may think. What's important is how well you utilize a particular play-style. What's key is power synergy. For example, if a particular power doesn't find its way into your play-style, it may be more beneficial to spec out of it and go into fitness (less time in the dirt = more time wreaking havoc). Some classes/strategies work better against different factions as well. I like to match my class selection against factions it works well against. If playing unknown, I make sure to pick versatile kits.

It is also important to prioritize targets. If you're interested in getting to the top of the scoreboard, make sure you target enemies your kit is effective against. If you're an armor killer, lay into the boss units first. If your class is an infantry slayer, be sure to stuff in the faces of mooks before charging into that banshee. Generally, I like to take out infantry before bosses. Aside from quickly removing a nuisance, infantry kills seem to yield more points per time invested in them.

There are many other things I can't quite think about at the moment. These are just the first few that came to my mind.

Scoring high doesn't make you an elite player.

On a slightly more serious note.

1) knowing the spawn locations and pre empting them.
2) know your builds and how they work. (plenty of builds from great players on the BSN to look at)
3) know the map layout
4) despite what some might say high score does say something about your performance, although padding your score with missile spam at wave 11 doesn't say much about the player.

5) don't kill enemies on hack and device waves unless necessary, kiting a pair of Praetorians round the map is faaaaar more useful than killing them, as they won't respawn.

6) On Gold ---> bronze target the mooks first, they're easier to kill faster (generally) and deplete the spawn budget far faster, then switch to the big targets when they get closer. Platinum there's way more bosses so this isn't so relevant.

7) armour damage is key. Weapons you take need some sort of AP either mods or consumables.

8) Sniper rifles should use Phasic ammo as a first choice, shield gate is the bane of single shot SRs Phasic ammo does away with it entirely.

9) Aim for the head when you can, it gives a massive damage multiplier, but don't waste more than a second aiming for it. Take the shot to the target's chest, that causes stagger, the next shot can be adjusted for the head, Especially when dealing with Phantoms.

10) DPS and debuffs are king. So fitness is not that useful, unless the kit has damage reduction. soft cover is waaaaaay better than hard cover and lets you fire using right hand advantage. Powers which debuff or increase damage from powers and weapons are excellent, you should spec into them if you get the chance.

11) Status effects are nice, eg: incendiary for fire explosions. So know what ammo and powers prime what, and what detonates what. Also goes to class selection. If you have a tech heavy power team, a biotic character won't be as useful, as the tech powers will bury the biotic primers.

Talon
Harrier
Typoon
Wraith (Claymore isn't reliable enough)
-
Weapon Amp III
Armor Piercing III or IV
Cyclonic III or IV
Stronghold package V
-
Flamer (Geth Trooper)
Dark Channel
Snap Freeze (Paladin)

Set yourself to auto pilot because every single person on your team will detonate your combos as well as you dealing massive damage with your weapon and powers.

1) Host the game, lag can rob you of the killing shot points.
2) Get the killing shot on boss targets - if you have a high damage low ROF weapon, shoot when target health < weapon damage.
3) Headshot/OHK whatever you can.
4) Use AOE priming powers (e.g. reave, snap freeze), and let others detonate.
5) Use high DPS weapons.
6) Armoured compartments + rocket large spawns.
7) Milk infinite spawns on objective rounds.

edit: typo

I don't feel worthy to post on here.

Elite players nuke all the spawn points so that you finish a match before you've even blinked twice.

-kill everything and steal others kills
-killing something with combos(tech/biotic explosions) seems to give more points than normal
-hit bosses in their weakspots to spend less time on them

Just get to the spawns first. And know how to kill quickly. And to be honest, it doesnt really mean that much if everyone knows how to kill stuff. Its just a pointless epeen game. I wish they would remove score, I pretty much get very high scores now. Evem quadrupling sometimes the 2nd place guy on occasion.

And to be honest its because I get caught up on the more more faster faster attitude. I would enjoy the game much more without the score mini game.

I don't know about being elite, but one thing I've noticed is that once the bosses come out, most PUGs ignore everything else and concentrate on the bosses, while I go around killing the sub-bosses and mooks. With the amount of time it takes to take down those targets, you could've cleaned up a hell of a lot more non bosses worth more points.

You do still need to know how to kill things very quickly though, as well as getting to the spawns first, which involves being able to predict them.

This is without a doubt the best and easiest way to improve your score (while simultaneously making rounds go quicker).  Unless an enemy boss is an imminent threat to the team, ignore him and focus down the little guys.  Killing one Prime is worth the same as killing 2.5 Hunters, and the hunters are a lot easier and faster to kill.

Simple.

Know your enemies and know yourself.

That is all..

So, Sun Tzu strikes again!

In reference to the OP, I always get the high score when I solo. It's also the only time I am likely to get the high score. Not long ago, being a little drunk and a lot foolish, I challenged my gf. The parameters of the challenge were simply to use the same kit. The first one we used was vanilla human Adept.

She got almost double my score in a duo. I whined that she was running level 20 and I was running level 10 (which was true), so we looked over our characters and noticed that our Engineers were both level 17. We picked one that neither of us use or know very well--Salarian--and duo-ed again.

I killed everything I saw and I thought I killed quickly. She still outscored me pretty badly (at least it wasn't double, but it was still singnificant. I think I had maybe 3/4 of her score).

I suspect that her knowledge of spawns was one of the big elements in my fail. Perhaps my mediocrity can help you ascend to the top.

(Edited for asterisks and grammar.)
