Congratulations Clyde!

Depending on the team, map, and primary faction, more/less strategy and synergy are required. I figured that map and faction, with a good guide ( Slother), was a good way to break the ice. Unfortunately, they probably won't all be that easy!

Thanks! That was gracious of you to step aside so us n00bs could play with Sloth, it really was pie compared to what I was expecting.

Initially, I was thinking "really? a game plan? turn me loose and let me go to work!" but after a few waves of banshees, phantoms AND atlases I'm glad it was done that way. You're coming with us next time!

I'm yet to try it .. I can do gold with no problems .. if the team is good. If it's not, I can't carry them .. I can solo bronze but that's it.

I'm in that stage too; I can solo bronze with ease, yet I've never tried silver solo. I'm getting to the point where I can handle gold with a bad team, but it's a grind when it happens.

Congratulations!

I'm very new to Platinum myself. Have only done... hmm *checks* 5 Plat extractions.

My first Plat game was a bunch of failed runs during Lodestar... >.>

My first successful Plat game was a 3 man Rio Reapers, and I got dropped in on Wave 3 I think... Rather than actually staying inside the Box of Shame, two of us just sort of hung around fighting in the general area and lured any Banshees to the third player, a Juggernaut, for tanking and spanking.

My last Platinum run was today, London Geth. Queued for Gold, got into a lobby where everyone had full consumables and some impressive loadouts, thought it was my lucky day. Imagine my surprise a few waves later, when a Banshee shows up in a Geth game. It actually went quite smoothly though, except for a Wave 6 Hack circle in the middle of the map.

I seem to get outscored 50-80% by 2-3 teammates in every game though. I'm not sure if that means I'm not really ready and am just getting carried, or if that's just normal for Plat noobs.

Hey, you said you're new to it! Nothing wrong with getting outscored as long as you contribute to the team's success. I learned that last night; I finished with 41k while the other guys had well over 100k. Playing with a Volus Engie though, I helped keep everyone on their feet with Shield Boost. Not the most glamorous role but we all get paid the same amount of creditsImage IPB

My first plat match was Cerberus/Hydra. I was originally in a silver lobby but the host change the difficulty without me noticing. Upon the first wave all i could think was "WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PHANTOMS ALREADY!" We wiped on wave one.

I think I added you a few days ago. We gotta get a game or two in next time we're both on at the same time.

First Plat was a wipe on Wave 3. I believe it took 5 games to figure Plat out and extract on the first day.

I remember being really nervous and anxious while the Plat game loaded for the first time.  That  calm before the storm...

I get that before every Gold game.

I have yet to try plat, I don't really feel like I have the loadout yet (BW2 just doesn't seem like it'll cut it). If I'm playing my QFI or TGI I can clutch gold waves about 50% of the time, but I just don't feel like I would contribute that much to a plat game yet without my weapons a bit higher level.

I played my game last night with a Volus Engineer that I'd never played with before with a PPR I that I'd never fired before. Clutching gold waves sounds pretty competent to me, go for it!

Not to mention, we got N7 ~100s running around in gold lobbies, why not someone who can actually play trying Platinum?

some friends and I tried a joke attempt on platinum many months ago, we just took gear, no equipment, level 20 characters. Got to wave 6 before 2 people were stomped and 2 of us were dying while surrounded by banshees and phantoms so no point medi gelling.

Didnt go back until lodestar. Had one match where magniflyer and boogie and one other helped me out a lot, i scored bottom but not too badly, and then Megabeast was doing his charity runs so i did another 4 plat runs with him , scored v little as he was spawn nuking everything which was great as I was mostly wanting to just get the challenge done rather than actually experience platinum per se. Did one more match where some friends needed Plat Collectors for Lodestar, so I dragged poor Saippu in to carry us. Think he nearly had a stroke but 2 of us extracted so they all got their Lodestar achievement done.

Havent gone back yet, would like to try it without any Juggernauts.

My first was FBW, using a KroSol, wiped on wave 6, a brutal first time. Was actually surprised I survived that long.

Dat Krogan health.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised; there aren't very many names on this thread whom I haven't seen before. I figured there'd be some newer forumites with some stories to tell about breaking their way into Platinum and not having a clue (like I don't).

Big ups to Slother93 for giving me, PaulS863 & SD5 the blueprint to breeze thru platinum for our first ever run. We played Reapers/Glacier and it was a lot easier than I anticipated due to Sloth. Think we finished in around 23 min. Can't wait to run it again...

Thanks!  I'm glad I was able to facilitate that match, it was a lot of fun for me too.  I will admit that in the first few moments of wave one (when I had to use two medigels and two ops packs) I had a doubt we would finish the game.  But you guys pulled it together and did great!

I didn't realize you had never played with the Volus or used the PPR before.  Oops!  Perhaps I should have had a dry run with you all first - sorry about that.  Quite impressive though for a serious first-time platinum attempt!

Just keep at it and before you know it you'll be running around randomly and shooting it up like it's a run-of-the-mill gold match.  :D

I look forward to some more matches with you guys.

Fairly normal especially if the others are good regular Plat players.  As long as you are killing stuff and mainly staying vertical you're doing fine.:D  Even now after 100ish Plat games it can still happen depending on loadouts.  Makes it all the sweeter when you do top the board finally.

Eh? I'm not new, been here a year, just not as active as I used to be. I only play Plat with friends though, still hate it.

Oh, I know, I recognize your name. How could I forget?

But platinum w/friends seems to be the only way; unfortunately I've heard too many "it's a grind" more than "it's awesome" reactions to it.

I'm still hoping to float through Plat on a Crimson cloud for my first PS 3 Plat run. :wizard:

I even have a Juggy, so I can help make it take longer (wouldn't want it to end too quick.) :innocent:

True. I just kept thinkin..."we're gonna get soooo many credits if we make it..." The whole thing was surreal; it's the first time I played a match with such a strategy.

Is Platinum always like this, is complete team synergy totally necessary to be successful?

No.  It's all about the DPS.  Synergy is nice, but experience is preferred.

Good to know. I've been worried about jumping in with my rares at IV & V and my URs at I & II. Last thing I need is to be tucking tail because I can't kill anything.

My very first time didn't go that well. Neither did my second one. We never got to the end.

But my third time, was the charm :D Made it all the way to the end with no problems. But it did leave me a bit traumatized :P So I haven't done it again. But I should try it again at some point.

It only hurts the first few times.

After that, it's great.
