Dear Bioware,

some years ago i bought KOTOR and i just notice that is now avaible on steam.
I try to use my cd key on steam, but it tell me that is not avaible.

I also ask steam about this, and they told me that the old cd key can't be redeemed.

Why? I have bought it, why we are not allowed to redeem them? Is near to impobbile play without patch, but with steam we can have it again, i would like to play it again.

Thanks a lot.

This is how it goes with many old games from many different developers/publishers, it's pretty normal.

Also if you want to continue this discussion you need to go to Disney since they hold all the IP rights for Star Wars now, Bioware can do nothing about this as they can not legally re-issue KOTOR without the permission of the IP holder (again Disney).

Ya those are Steamworks games.  KOTOR isn't Steamworks so the CD Key can not be redeemed on Steam.

Yes it is sold on Steam, but it isn't a Steamworks game.

Steamworks games are games that use Steam as it's primary DRM, for example if you purchased a game at retail and when you install it to your PC and the game open Steam then it is a Steamworks game.  Steamworks games also normally have Steam Achievements.  KOTOR does not use Steam as it's DRM so it can not be activated on Steam using a CD-key that wasn't directly acquired from Steam (which is what you would get when you purchase it on Steam)
