I would've said the Phoenix, but I've seen too many players absolutely wreck the opposition with him.

As much as the Phoenix Adept is pretty good, the Vanguard... ughhhh, I have a harder time surviving with the latter even with Biotic Charges.

For those who say the Cabal : I tried a build without grenades, Poison Strike with a 16.8m of range, full shields, Biotic Focus being built with Heightened Focus at Rank 6 (which works as well as a Tech-Armor for 20 seconds, so I don't need to spam the thing in order to get my shields back), and carrying a Claymore. My cooldown is not even that terrible : +71%, hell, I don't think I even need the Capacity Bonus, I could just go like with my Soldiers.

The results were there ; extremely effective in Firebase Glacier, and even in Vancouver (one of my friend died at 1st floor while the hack was at second floor, the enhanced Poison Strike got me to his position in no time and the enemies barely noticed me).

Because that's a bad player, not a bad character. ANY Volus who is Shield Boost spamming is a moron who is doing it wrong. A Volus who is played properly is a machine of destruction.

If you're playing the Volus Vanguard as a Shield Boost spammer you're doing it wrong. I'd only say the Merc should be played kind of like that because his other abilities are fairly bad.

The orbs can be used to make you damned near immortal because of the 60% more recharge speed to Biotic Charge or used for a bit of debuffing along with Shield Boost for buffing.

He's mainly a utility bowling ball that does things the Kroguard/Broguard don't do(in exchange for not being as good of a tank). I'm bringing in the Drell or Asari if I want a heavy hitter that's a Vanguard, though.

This is why I love 16.8m PStrike so much. For other characters, you can revive teammates within about 30m radius. Cabal's effective radius for reviving teammates is THE ENTIRE GODDAMN MAP.

Also you become the king of the 4-of-a-kind objectives.

IMO the Cabal is less a Vanguard and more of an absurdly mobile teleporting shield boosting Soldier.

And for those saying Poison Strike sucks... Please watch the Cabal Teleporting Guide in my signature. If you don't like PS as a damage ability and detonator, the utility of it might still interest you.

This.  I never understood why people spec out of poison strike.  It's her best utility:  absurdly good and useful.  Anyone not using it is really missing out.

If a guy's playing a volus Vanguard, I'll assume he's using ToLazy4Name's build because that build wrecks things left and right. Every volus I've seen use it(count 'em 3...) sported it and they did amazing things with it.


I personally dislike Cabal. Novaguard has...nova, so there's that. Drell nukes things with cluster 'nade. Asari has lift 'nade + stasis which can be useful. Ex-Cerberus if done right can Smash n' Lash left and right while getting up in people's faces with the whips.


Kroguard's a beast cause he has the ability to never die so long as he is not sync-killed. N7 Slayer's a beast due to Phase Disruptor, the high DR while doing light melee and the ability to go through walls. Batarian can hatesurf and dish out some crazy melee damage. Volus can become a biotic cannonball of death.


Cabal? Well, you've got poison strike which admittedly is pretty sweet since it can get you across huge distances easily. Quite handy, can jump through walls and elevations and can partially restore shields or use it as a weapons platform. Cabal's got its own strengths but eh...feels less Vanguard and more Soldier, really. Just not my preference when playing a Vanguard. If I wanna go through walls I can pick Slayer. If I wanna be a weapons platform then I'd probably rather go Soldier or Infiltrator.

I dunno, volus powers just seem more selfish besides from shield boost. I dont know about others but i dont pick debuff in orbs and hardly ever throw them. 

What do you mean selfish? What, is he SUPPOSED to follow people around and help them? Because if that's what you think, you're horribly mistaken. A Volus should NOT be a support character unless it's during an objective, where he can spam Shield Boost to keep everyone alive in a tough situation.
