no, he is not only a boss-killer. ppl don't like lash and i don't understand why, but it's an excellent mook killer. lash and BC kills everything without armor, even phantoms (maybe 3 health bars remain, a weapon can deal with it).

using smash needs cover or distracted enemy.  you don't want to stand face to face enemies like marauders anyway.

Exactly. I just think boss killng is where the Smashguard is supposed to perform better than the other vanguards, as well as self-detonations.

Vs bosses, 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 he's okay. Smash specced correctly  with biotic charge synergy can do 5500 damage to armour and barriers. That's going to hit hard no matter what difficulty you're playing on. 

The problem is he carries a huge risk given the long animation, squishy nature of the Phoenix with smash. If he had more DR when doing the Smash animation or able to affect 3 targets rather than 2 then he'd be far more effective. He's not bad by any means.

But the Drell and Asari cluster/ lift grenades, do far more damage, hit more targets and have less risk. Korguard, Barrier's power synergy lets his biotic charge hit like a ton of bricks and DR. Slayer's, especially Megabeast's build can go match up to the Drell and Asari easily, dodging back through a wall to get in cover and out of melee range. 

Broguard, with DR and lash surfing. Human Novaguard invincibility frames, Cabal, is great. Anyone who says she's bad is insane. Even if people dont use Poison strike, speccing 3/4 ranks into it lets you teleport through a wall, when the **** hits the fan. And biotic focus and Nightshade blades are both excellent powers. 

Phoenix guard is a bit meh, I've got some good results out of him, but all the others are somewhat better. 

Except the volus, not great and on a par with the Phoenixguard really.

Also, Reegar on EVERY vanguard (stop calling the Volus VanGOD, it makes me wanna hurl when I read that) is pretty much cheesin' it to the max, no wonder that it works.

And: Fitness on a Volus?

The Volus Vanguard is a fun character and I do like him, but he's definitely the lowest tier Vanguard. Even the Phoenix Vanguard (whom I despise) is admittedly a higher tier than the Volus.

Worst should be No acolyte& no reegar nova guard or No good weapon Volus Vanguard, followed by no grenade gear Drell Vanguard, most Cabal because she is buggy and tricky.

I'd say the volus protector or the krogan, I know the krogan is powerful but I just find him extremely boring to use! The smashguard is a lot of fun, especially if you take the 50% chance of no cool down evolution, charge instantly followed by smash is pretty devastating!

Whathwhatwhat? Kroguard is boring? Charging, RAWWRRRmeleing and headbutting everything (except some synckilling motherf***ers, for them, Claymoarrrrr) is NEVER boring, grrrr. OK, its personal preference but for me the most fun vanguard is the Krogan. 

Regarding the topic. IMHO the worst vanguard is the volus. Not because it is not possible to play him a somewhat effective way, but what an abomination is this! A volus NEVER do such a thing! A volus PAYS two-three Krogans to do the vanguard stuff!

No, she has the best mobility of all the vanguards, heck of all the kits in the game, biotic focus is one of (if not the) best reload canceller of the game, her teleport moves have no delay, as opposed to the slayer/fury, and poison strike is more of a "oh ****" button that allows you to flee all the while inflicting some damage.
As a turian, she has awesome weapon passives and a lot of barrier/health. She is bugged though, and I won't use her unless I'm host, but she is very resilient.

How many times are you pyjaks gonna whine about "long animation frames" before getting this through your thick heads? Am I the damn invisible man? You can use Smash and roll or attack litterally as soon as the Phoenix raises his arms. Its quicker than Lash.

I believe so yes.
Also Dodging should work.
