OKay so how does this work exactly? I want to know if it counts my first playthrough with a character and what they did, or the new game plus choices?

So for example.

If I did the mineral quest on my first playthrough. Then to speed up the newgame + playthrough do I have to do the mining quest again? Which choices does the game import?

I just want to know so I don't have to do more work than I have to. Being on my 8th playthrough after a computer crash isn't fun.

Items and minerals don't carry over from what we know.

Each time you beat the game it makes a special save about the choices you made, quests, etc whatever transfer over to the Sequel. THose special saves you will be able to pick at the beginning of ME 2, they will list the choices and quests you did to jar your memory.

I think it is more the quests don't carry through. And considering we don't know if there is an extension of that quest...

from what I gather, is that everything we have done in our save games, is basically stored, it is what ever the second game needs will be used.. just my guess.

Each time you complete the game it makes a save which recorded everything you did in that playthrough. When you did new game + you were completely starting over and every decision you did in that playthrough is in its own save plus all the quests you did or not complete. What I'm saying is, they do not accumulate between new games.

No I didn't explain it right, or maybe I am tired.

OKay say I go all Paragon on character a. I beat the game with character a.

Now I make a new game plus with character a. I go all Renegade.

He is still character a.

So which choices are picked? Or is the new game + treated as a completely new game? IE if I want the choices he did in non-new game + I have to do it a second time in new game + ?

Edit
Thanks for the answer Epoch_

I think you got your answer, but just to clarify, you have two different saves there that you can import.

Ok, what I understand, the endgame save is what matters? See, a while ago, I beat ME1 for the first time. Before I knew about importing into ME2, I deleted the original save game. But when I heard about ME2, I got the game again, so that I could make the decisions that I wanted to. But when I went to start a new game, it had the endgame save of my previous playthrough. Is that all I need? Or should I play through again to get an actual save? I'm not sure why the endgame save never deleted, but it's there, and it survived a hard drive transfer, too.

I have played Mass Effect 1 once through but when I select Import from ME1 when creating a new game in ME2, I don't see anything. Nothing for me to select and import.

Anyone has any idea why this is so?

Both games are played on the same PC.

I am having the same problem. I just beat ME1 for the first time tonight and wanted to jump right into ME2 but when starting a new game and selecting "Import ME1 character", I'm not getting anything to choose.

1) Go to the launcher

2) Click configure

3) Choose the folder where your ME1 savegames are

4) Play the game and import

Me and my wife's characters were imported with no problems. It was great to see the continuity too.
