I have no doubt that DA3 will live up to my expectations. All I want is an improved version of DA2 and it sounds like that's exactly what it will be. Many of my problems with DA2 have already been addressed and the game hasn't even been announced yet: reaction wheel being introduced, return of both approval/disapproval and friendship/rivalry, dominant tone being removed, greater party customization, no more recycled environments, not being stuck in one city for the entire game, a graphics engine that doesn't suck.

I will be very surprised if DA3 disappoints me.

J. Reezy clearly it's because your privilege remains unchecked. According to the privilege chart you shouldn't dare speak on such matters until you increase your white straight male guilt levels by 94%.

I use a privilege checker app on my phone before I post in any BSN thread, I suggest you do the same Recon.

Honestly at this point I don't know what to make of DA:I, DA2 left a several things to be desired despite a few improvements. I've already written off Mass Effect, and the planned practices of DA's publisher haven't exactly built confidence. So I guess expectations are fairly low, I'm willing to hear the pitch for what DA:I while have to offer, unless I'm thrilled by what the game offers I'm likely to skip it.

Basically my expectations need to be raised before I'll even bother with it. Seeing as I am a member of the skyrim crowd I'm not sure what you mean by dumbed down OP. I like free roaming and exploration, if it's done well that'll be  a plus for DA.

yeah right, so we should praise the ability to express or roleplay our characters in 2-3 possible ways with ****** icons now... awesome.

it was fine with me games, but after dao everything looks like rpg for dummies. so this "golden standart of bioware games" looks a bit rusty. oh wait there is no rust on gold, perhaps it is not gold at all?

So when someone says DAO is a great game, I respect that opinion but respectfully disagree. I have yet to meet an RPG that I can say is great. I have several that come close but that is my opinion.

You've really never encountered a great RPG? Ultima to Amalur and you don't consider one great? Strange. Your standards must stretch toward the heavens.

Perhaps she just don't like the genre all that much. :?

First of all it is he. And I have been playing crpgs and before that rpgs for a very long time (30+ years) and no I have not found a great crpg. I know a lot of good ones but not great. And if you have been on these forums for any length of time and read my posts you would know what I look for in an crpg.

Quick someone call James Cameron and tell him to raise the bar from the bottom of the ocean.

Personally, my bar is in the middle.

Didn't sound all that homophobic tbh.

Nope.  Mostly just irrelevant.  And inappropriate regardless since FitScotGaymer's post made no qualitative indication of why he/she preferred DA2.  It's a conclusion that Volus somehow came to on his own.  Which actually makes it even worse.

If DA3 lives up to the vast majority of its players' bars that are set for it(surpassing past games in quality and such), I expect a DA-team dance party.

Filmed.

Only way left is up, so I'm pretty confident it'll be better than DA2.

Oh no, it could ALWAYS get worse.

But I'd like to hope it goes up from here.

At least from where my opinion lies.

Knowing Bioware and there gradually declining quality of games in recent years, do you honestly believe DA:I will be able to live up to its hype and be just as good if not better than Origins? I personally believe it will definitely be an improvement off DA 2 (with obviously is not saying much IMHO) but still is likely going to feel rushed and possibly dumbed down to appeal to the Skyrim crowd. Personally I think a game of this size and calibar needs at least 3 years in developement minimum in order to feel truely complete and polished. Who else feels somewhat worried about its overall prospects?

Dragon Age Inquistions has had the LONGEST preproduction period. I realize that means they've just been brainstorming BUT they've been thinking about it for quite a while which hopefully means they've tossed bad ideas out the airlock and come up with a bunch of great ideas that will please a lot of people. Have faith, they only people rushing them are the fans Blair Brown already said that they are going to take their time.

I just wanna apologise if I have come off rude or aggressive to people anywhere recently. It wasn't my intention; I just find it frustrating to deal with people who simply dismiss opposing opinions because they don't agree.

Like people saying the only possible reason to have disliked ME3 is because of "that ending" and that the game was the bestest most perfectest game ever created aside from "that ending". When for me I dislike that game for reasons OTHER than "that ending"
Or people insinuating that the only possible reason for a gay person to like Dragon Age 2, or like it better than ME3, was because of "all the gay characters" in it. And that is totally not the reason why I actually like DA2.

Talk like that is hyperbolic, insulting, and inaccurate. And it's incredibly frustrating to deal with because how can you have a discussion with someone when they have already decided why you don't agree with them and dismissed you because of their own assumptions?

So I am sorry if I have been rude or offended anyone.

So to attempt to get back on topic...

Dragon Age 2 had it's flaws but IMO it was a good game. Not great or anything but definately "good".
I mean the combat wasn't brilliant. It got kinda dull repetitive and boring.
The art style IMO was crap. ClownSpawn, DonkeyKongSpawn. The elves look...strange to say it politely. The low res background textures. Grey everywhere.
The maps. The lack of any meaningful exploration.
The lack of any meaningful change during the time skips.
The lack of any meaningful interaction with your family.
Some of the voice acting was outright horrible. I mean some of the Elves spoke with really fake irish accents when they are supposed to sound Welsh. And I absolutely hated FemHawke's VA cos to my ears she sounded perpetually bored and ready for her paycheque.

But putting those things aside the game had some pretty amazing parts to it. Isabela was awesome start to finish. Loved her style, loved how she played, loved how she sounded, loved how she looked, and loved her personality. Also loved her interactions with everyone else.
Hawke himself (ManHawke obv not FemHawke) had a great VA, the dominant personality system was an amazing idea and worked wonderfully, and his relationship with Aveline was amazing. Aveline was his sister not Bethany honestly lol.
The storyline was pretty solid if a little uninspired, the plot and premise were also pretty solid. The story telling in the game as well was pretty close to Bioware standard. And the game itself isn't as arduous as Dragon Age Origins can get (Deep Roads anyone?).

For me most importantly everything that happened and happens made sense and flowed excellently.
There are a few wobbles here and there as you play through the game but it doesn't really car crash until it hits the end. And even then the ending is horrible but it still makes sense, even if its just outright terrible (but not as bad as the ending to NWN2 which was LITERALLY "rocks fell. everyone died.").

I fully recognise however that liking or disliking Dragon Age 2 is one of those Your Mileage May Vary things.

Given that I rather like Dragon Age 2 (but I don't love it) and I have a deep respect for David Gaider and Mike Laidlaw and the Dragon Age team I think that if they are given the time and resources they need (and the corporate suits back off) I believe that we will get a solid title that delivers on what we hope we will get from Bioware.

I am optimistic about it at least. Though not optimistic enough to pre-order. That ship has sailed.
