It appears that the game strongly infers/demands? that the harvested races be rescued, and are NOT dead to the MEU. That's is the basis of destroy, to eliminate an enemy that has 'killed' them....

That is never inferred. It is infered that the harvest preserves organics, but we never see them, hear of them or have any indication what in the eyes of the Catalyst or Reapers perservation means. We just see the process of the harvest, the physical result of the harvest and the terror campaign the Reapers use to pursue it.

The Catalyst's words would carry more weight if it would have substantiated a single one of them. As it is, it's a throwaway line to justify genocide. It's not different than an apocalyptic cult that promises that by killing everyone they will enter heaven.

I think he mentions once that the harvest supposedly preserves it and just waves it away talking about other stuff he considers more important. Actually, that would be important stuff.

Actually no, it is your opinion. The bottom line is all three choices, regardless of how you feel about them personally, accomplish the goal of "stopping the reapers" just in different ways.

Destroy: Cycle ended because the reapers are destroyed, as evident by the epilogue
Control: Cycle ended because shepard is controling the reapers, as evident by the epilogue
Synthesis: Cycle ended because synthetic and organics are merged, as eident by the epilogue

Synthesis is no more the "cannon" ending than destroy or control at the moment and any statement otherwise is pure speculation based on your opinion.

There is an ending that is even harder to unlock with a little secret cutscene. That may be hint enough to tell that Synthesis was supposed to look like the hardest to achieve and thus the best while it actually is not.

the cat cinches synthesis, as that's the only way to free the hostages...er, harvested.

old news really, the catalyst, via the leviathan, (apex race by the way, or were,now the cat is..) have the MEU and control all resources via technology. That's why the destroy option requires it's obliteration. Destroy won't do that because it would 'end' the catalyst/new leviathan tech. No more sentient Ai to gain sapient qualities, or self. The game/story holds these realities as true from game one. The only variables is Shepard, but then with resurrection, even Shep is subject to the technology, or wouldn't exist in the current MEU.

I'd say bioware just chickened out with their star gazer scenes. They left a 'common denominator' so that there'd be less, say.. butt hurt, when this became 'realized' amongst the fans. So that it left wiggle room for all concerned. But that only lets for an 'empty' spot/space for digression. Or, conflict of interest for the status quo.

Bioware  isn't being tricky, so much as naughty..lol

Sorry, but I will never be on board with the whole "organic goo powering the reapers is life" argument, the reapers pervert and twist life into something horrific, the nonsensical malfunctioning AI that is the catalyst may think it's "preserving life" but somehow I doubt that the trillions of lives that have been snuffed out and turned into goo to power reapers would have wanted to exist that way.

Sadly this is the crux of the problem, the concepts behind the endings could have been brilliant but they are wrapped in spectacularly bad writing.
