So I was at the Landsmeet and pwned Loghain but I let him live and join the Grey Wardens.

Alistair emoed out and became hysterical, not wanting Loghain as a Grey Warden. Now he wanted to be king so he could execute Loghain but I chose Anora. So he left the party with all the uber items he's carrying. Letting Loghain live makes Alistair leave. No other way. Sigh...

He made me choose between being a goody-goody and revenge. Sorry Alistair.

You have to have Gary Jules "Mad World" in your top 5 favorite songs in order to be considered emo as well as Donnie Darko in your top 5 favorite movies.

Considering neither of the above exist in Dragon Age's universe, it is safe to say Alistair is not emo.

The whole "lol emo" phase is kinda old. There are only so many jokes you can make about an emo person and they aren't funny anymore.

It reminds me of people who think they're funny when they quote random internet memes like "LEEERRROOOOYYYY JEENNNNNKINS!" or "It's over NINE THOUSAAANNNNNDD!"

Time to move on folks.

Alistair does not write poetry, wear converses, or listen to wanna punk-rock bands that should really be labeled as 'pop'.

There for he is not emo.

Actually I thought if he were to fit into a high school stereotype, it would be jock, maybe even prep....?

I always thought he was completely justified in not wanting to even give Loghain the chance of living and becoming a Grey Warden considering all he's done that has affected Alistair directly let alone the entire nation.
I think it's taking it a bit too far not even helping to kill the archdemon if you do let him live, but I definitely didn't think he was just being whiny when you wouldn't let him run Loghain through with a sword. Hell, I would have too if I were him.

I'm sick of people saying Alistair is being whiney because he didn't approve of Loghain joining the grey wardens, most normal people in his shoes would be angry too, hell if I were him I probably be so angry that I would attack the pc. Wouldn't you be just as angry as Alistair if he tried to recruit Arl Howe, Vaughan, or Bhelen?

I thought the whole 'emo' phase has moved on already. Especially the people who don't even know the meaning of 'emo.'

Anyway, Alistair is awesome, it was a pleasant surprise to see him finally speak his mind for once at the Landsmeet and not worry about sucking up to others. Just kill Loghain, he deserves it anyway.

But Arl Howe is cool guy. So is Bhelen.

Plus, I recruited Loghain as a punishment, not a reward.

"Alistair is so EMO"

What is this, high school?

In any case, I thought Alistair was for the most part an upstanding guy who happened to have a lot of emotional baggage. He wasn't whiny at the Landsmeet, he was petulant. There's a big difference.

But most everything before the Landsmeet... Yeah, I thought he was whiny. He can't get over the loss of a surrogate father figure he's personally known for what, six months? He doesn't want responsibility. He started off as a funny guy but it quickly became apparent he mostly used humor as a defense mechanism to avoid dealing with his issues and gets all prickly when you call him out on it.

Ferelden comes first. Loghain is still a good general.

And letting Loghain join the Wardens doesn't mean he'll stay in my party. Alas no option there that says "I'll let you join the Wardens but you're not coming with me and keep your distance off Alistair."

The Landsmeet annoyed me because it was so forced and railroaded. It was basically there just to shoehorn a big "choose-one-companion-over-the-other" type decision into the game as part of the big "grey morality" selling point. It felt artificial.

Actually, if I could kill Alistair before the Landsmeet, I would.

I'm not telling you I'm the heir apparent to the throne because you'll look at me differently = emo.

I'm not telling you I'm the heir apparent to the throne because I don't trust you, but I'll trust you enough to lead us for stopping the Blight.

Every dialog coming down to crying about Duncan being dead = emo, until you find out who he is, and then he gets to cry about not wanting to be who he is = emo.

The Landsmeet is such a small part of why I dislike Alistair, as a person as to be not worthy of mention.  It never ceases to amaze me, however, how the Alistair defence squad feels the need to come into hate threads, or perceived hate threads, to attempt to defend him.

Another thing, if Alistair had reached down between his legs and found a pair and slapped steel against me at the Landsmeet, it might have shown something worthy of note in his overall character.  He doesn't.  The female PC has it right in the early romance dialog, when they comment on his lack of parts.

Well, he does tend to be a bit whiny. But the whole Loghain thing I can understand why he was mad about that. But I like Alistair. He at least has a good sense of humour, and he is a good character. Though wanted to kill Loghain in front of his daughter like that seemed a bit cold hearted especially for him. But I can understand why he was angry.

So I'll take it that your sigh means that Alistair is pissed about being Maric's heir?  I like the way you snipped my post to quote it to.  I guess the rest of it would have just made your sigh look emo?  The only thing Alistair needed to fit the stereotype was an mp3 player full of emo songs, and guy liner.  The Kleenex box in my sig belongs at Alistair's spot in camp.

WTH is emo? Why do we find it necessary to talk in jargon that really has no pratical vantage point under any rhetorical setting anywhere?

Its like BFF. Who the hell talks like this unless you are a pre-pubescent girl living in thousand oaks. I think I'm too old to "get it."

Since we don't have an age gate on these forums anymore, I think threads like this should be used as bait for underaged posters to out themselves.

Unless you are talking about a specific genre of music and/or Davey Havok, the word "emo" should never be uttered. Most people don't even know what it means anymore, if they ever did.

Well, Alistair was very emotional about it, so I think the word Emo is tacked on quite correctly in this circumstance, although I doubt the OP actually meant it that way.

And BFF totally means Best Frog Forever!

*sigh* It really confounds me how many people can't see things from Al's perspective. How about this: have you played as a human noble? What would you do if Al wanted to recruit Arl Howe?

Al lost his father figure and his brother to Loghain. He can't play nice with the guy. He just can't. And I really don't blame him.
