I wonder what would happen to the ashes if the blight remains unchecked . . . Wynne and Leliana try to kill the two people who can stop the blight (if Alistair is in the party, that is).  I think they lost sight of what really is important there.

The thing I wonder most is why the High Dragon didn't just destroy the temple, if gaining control, or defiling the Ashes was so important to her.  Then she, or her followers, could have defiled them with no one the wiser.

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that the High Dragon didn't actually control the fanatics. Dragons are only as intelligent as dolphins or something. I guessed the fanatics just picked her as an icon.

By anybody that comes into an "I hate Alistair" thread trying to claim that he's the best thing since sliced bread.  By anyone that tells me that sparing Loghain, and pissing Alistair off is wrong.  By anyone that believes that their opinion is the only one that's valid, and continues to come into "hate" threads trying to circle the wagons and defend Alistair.  You'll notice that there is a distinct lack of posts by me in threads about Alistair love.  Why?  Because I respect the right of other players to view him differently from me, and I'm not trying to control the way they play.  My version of a happy ending for Alistair is dead on the floor of the Landsmeet, or off getting drunk, either gets him the hell out of my camp, and away from me.  Yet, I don't post that in Alistair happy ending threads.  There are no posts by me in the current relationship thread, because my answer is, of course, to kill him or run him off, and the PC would be better off romancing Zevran, or Leliana, and going to Orlais to shop for shoes.  None of these are options that people looking to romance Alistair are looking for.  Why is it assumed by the Alistair Fan Club that people that don't like him want to be encouraged to like him?

I have to admire the sigle-minded arrogance of anyone who can so easily pass his own personal belief as an objective fact without a shred of the vaunted proof he demands of anyone contradicting him.

I know in the Zevran love threads, the trolls get bored because they're ignored. Even in the Alistair love threads, most haters stay out and let those fangirls go *squee*. I don't know about Zevran hate threads because I don't read them, but since they don't seem to last too long my guess is the trolls stay out of those as well. I'm not sure what it is about Alistair hate threads that make people want to defend him, but obviously people have strong feelings for him.

It is just that.  Strong feelings for or against him, and largely, and amusingly enough, for the exact same reasons.  Image IPB

Personally, I'm pretty much done with the topic of Alistair vs. Loghain, but that does seem to be the thing most people who come into Alistair hate/Loghain defense threads want to talk about.  It's way more popular as a topic than Morrigan's Dark Ritual, which ought to be a surprise but maybe isn't.

I find it interesting to read various topics relating to Loghain vs. Alistair, but other than some comments by David Gaider which changed my view on Ostagar, my opinion hasn't changed much since the first time I beat the game.  I would never presume that my own views would shape how other people see the game, either.  But I don't know what the point of making thread about one's opinion is, if the OP doesn't expect people to come in and actually talk about their own opinions in turn.

@Ejoslin you forgot to mention you need to leave him at the gates ;)

I thought saying sacrifice yourself implied that.  If you don't leave him at the gates, he sacrifices himself.  Of course, I use dialog tweaks, but I realize not everyone is on a PC.

Edit: I suppose there are people who don't know that if you take him with you he sacrifices himself.  So yes, leave him at the gates or use dialog tweaks so you can sacrifice yourself and watch him fall to pieces in a very pathetic way.  But be prepared for complete heartbreak if you romanced Zevran as well, because Anora giving your eulogy has a very harsh camera angle.  Oh, yes, and Alistair does not attend your funeral either.

Ah. Thanks for explaining. Chances are slim that I am going to try that variation. :)

I just find it interesting that Alistair hate threads are the only ones that seem to inspire that.  The Alistair haters (of which I truly am not one, I find the character funny and the dialogs engaging, and I find him very flawed, but that's not the same as hating him) stay out of the Alistair love threads.  I think I'm fairly well established as a Zevran fangirl (putting it mildly I suppose) but I feel no need to go into a "I killed Zevran and it was the best thing I did ever because he's a sleaze" thread to defend him.

People may actually just want to discuss Alistair's flaws. Just like people like to discuss good and bad things about other characters.  And believe me, I'm not saying that the Alistair fans shouldn't be posting their opinions, again, I just find it interesting that the Alistair character really does inspire such loyalty.

Haha, I like discussing Alistair's flaws too!  But like I said, it's the "who did you choose at the Landsmeet" debate that seems to bring out the passionate defenders, it's not just people thinking Alistair is peachy keen.

I think the Landsmeet touched a chord, in that people REALLY hate Loghain, or really want to defend him (okay, maybe some people love him, I don't get it...;)), and it's almost as if the choice at the Landsmeet makes a statement about their own character.   People don't like to feel like their character is being maligned, so when the topic comes up, it gets heated.

You don't really see people coming into the Alistair love threads to talk about the Landsmeet or Loghain, because the love threads are mostly about his hair, accent and roses.

Then perhaps there should be a love/hate Loghain thread?  Though for some reason, people can't seem to talk about Loghain without bringing up Alistair.  As if Loghain was some alternate reality, twisted version of the boy king.

And yes, Alistair's emo, we all are.  WE'RE ARGUING ON A THREAD ON THE INTERNET ABOUT A FICTIONAL DIGITAL PERSON.

Of course he is!

Because you can only have one or the other, people naturally just compare the 2 as though they're both sides of the same coin.

Talking of Loghain. He follows Cailan for a time until he decides it is foolish to continue doing so and believes it doesn't best serve his country ( like Boromir when he decides to attack Frodo )  then he goes against Cailan, and in the end he realizes he was wrong and redeems himseilf ( either dying at the archdemon or becoming the Grey Warden recruiter )

From Denethor I see in him a person willing to do whatever it takes for his country.

Oh but I can.  Image IPB  Seeing as I'm a heterosexual male, I most certainly can ignore that. Image IPB  However, I won't hold that against people that can't.  It's not that I have a problem with people loving Alistair, or hating Loghain, which I do, btw, I really don't like Loghain much at all, I just don't like Alistair, and between the two, I find I like Loghain more.  Don't get all excited, both are still in negative approval, it's just that Alistair's is lower than Loghain's.Image IPB
