There is a difference between a gun at level X and one at level I.. Though with the Avenger I doubt it's too much.ToYz_R_RusH wrote...
I used my avenger X / TGI in a platinum game yesterday and topped the leader board. Sure, there are other weapons that are more powerful, but powerful != fun. Who cares what weapon someone brings into a game... judge them by their performance instead of their looks.
Avenger 1's in Platinum

I want to see some people take a Day 1 character and beat Platnium. I'd be impressed there

I think Upinya told me a gun gains 2.5x dmg bonus at each level. An Avenger X is much more powerful than an Avenger I. [edit] Some number cruncher has a detailed chart that shows the progression. I'm just a humble console peasant w/o access to the stats

Not even close to the correct value.
Most guns get a 2.5-3% damage increase per level. That means about 25-30% bonus damage at level X.
Avenger I is terrible. The Avenger X does about 25% more damage, and it's still terrible.

The game doesn't really do a good job of indicating that new players are supposed to start on Bronze.
So you get new players coming in all the time, having finished Insanity SP and thinking they can waltz into the MP on the highest difficulty...
Also, I think Platinum might be the default difficulty and you have to specifically change it in the search menu?
I think default difficulty setting for search is 'Any'
...which should be used by a player with maxed manifest only...

I thought the default search settings are Unknown/Collectors/Platinum?

I have had at least 4 or 5 N7 25 or lower join my platinum games today. They are awful and usually rage quit wave 1.

One of us must really suck at math because 2.5% x 10 (Level X) = 25%
[edit] fixed spelling. So to be clear, all you just did was repeat what I just said which is very strange

I wasn't clear enough or something?

No, I did not repeat what you said. You said that a gun gains 2.5x damage bonus per level.
There is a huge difference between 2.5x and 2.5%.

Not even those spawns nuked on wave 11 helped those unfortunate peeps that crossed in the way of the mighty Avenger. They all quit as soon as the match was over

Funny you should post this; just this morning, I strapped my Avenger (VI, seriously) onto my grenade-less vanilla human level 14 soldier and went to London on a Platinum date with Reapers. Granted, I did this alone just to see how horrible it would be.
I'm a scrub and I died the expected scrubby death, but I cost no one (not even myself because, get real, I don't want to spaff limited supplies on such a horrible outing) any consumables.
You sooo had me going! I was expecting some heroic tale of how you overcame overwhelming odds and carried a team of BoB's and Lone Wolves!!!
But you didnt...
Bump.

I would never kick a new player, never, it doesn't matter if they come with an Avenger 1 on my platinum lobby, I will carry them
You really think, it is fun for those to be carried through a Platinum? If you are new, you are also very happy about a Bronce game, just damn tell them. (instead carry them send them a friend request if they don't answer on voice chat)

Agreed, I've had good success bringing commons to Gold+ for the weapon challenges. Was surprised to see myself scoring so much with Mantis X and Raptor X

Long as they put on equipment, I don't usually give a damn even on Platinum. I want to at least see them commit some equipment where I know they will not bail in mid game though.
Agreed
Although if someone is using a low level Avenger, it means they don't have consumables to use (or even a properly leveled piece of permanent gear)
Even in the video link posted on the first page, those are two quality, experienced players using max weapon and ammo consumables ... and it still takes them a god awful amount of time to take down anything ...
A new player w/o consumables would have an epic battle with a plat husk to take it down

I agree, pugging in Platinum is too much, too many fools out there that couldn't even make it through a wave without someone good to carry them. Ideally it would be nice if they had to have played X number of waves at each difficulty to be allowed into higher difficulties. Even if it was only 100 at each level.parico wrote...

It'd be nice if in upcoming ME MP there were certain criteria you had to reach to start playing silver, gold then platinum.
I said that too but many here dont seem to agree should made a set number of extractions on each difficulty or something.

This. So much this. I'd much prefer to be able to see the games played (at least in addition to N7 and challenge points), it seems like it'd make judging people in the lobbies so much more accurate. Heck, maybe even when you click on them in the lobby it comes up with the total games played in each difficulty (bronze, silver, gold and platinum) so you can get a rough idea of how used to that level they are.sandboxgod wrote...
Additionally, N7 is not a great measure of experience. Instead they should use the "Number of Games Played" stat which is essentially what Halo 4 uses
