Does anyone know what this lever does?

Posted Image

It's in the side room with the fireplace at the Bann Franderel Estate- Slim Couldry's last break-in mission- labeled merely "Lever."

Every playthrough I go there and flip it on my way through, not knowing what I've just triggered. It makes a noise and triggers back and forth but it doesn't seem to have any effect that I've seen. It's not like the levers in the gas chamber at the Anvil of the Void where you know immediately what they do. The DAWiki doesn't say anything about it either. This time I didn't touch it and was able to pass all the way through just the same- no gates shut or anything. Not sure if I'm missing something or what. It's not mentioned as part of the mission in-game either.

It's been speculated elsewhere that it was part of a larger scale encounter that got reduced before game release- devs simply not removing it since it doesn't crash anything- but...

Just wonderin'.

Does it open a trap door to a tank full of sharks to kill Hans Brix?

It's the lever that Lord Palazzo pulls to drop Excel into an oubliette.

hehehe I'm chalking it up to sloppy area building. Further investigation turned up nothing more. The most convincing speculation was that a larger area build was abandoned but that they neglected to delete the lever and then on beta testing it was categorized as a low priority since it doesn't actually harm anything, so it never got removed. And thenceforth didst countless players most ineffectually doeth of lever-flipping.

But maybe it secretly controls the end slides. Flip it in the wrong position and you'll find that Alistair and Loghain marry and depose Anora. For Ferelden! "And the duo-regency was much loved by the peons..."

This is in contrast to the "drink table" also in Franderel's which only seems to do nothing (to me anyway). I always take the place as a marauder, so I've simply always missed the conditions needed for it to do anything. Just learned otherwise. I also discovered an odd campfire in the werewolf travel encounter that has an active conversation tag assigned to it but no text on toggling, so yet another mysterious piece of game area building debris. Though it may be there like the Brecilian demon's campfire to lure players into collectively clicking and pawing at it in vain for a collective aggregate of years of their lives...

Mind you, on the 2nd time through Franderel's the mysterious lever isn't there at all. Mysteriouser and mysteriouser...
