It's one of the best games I've played this generation. I highly recommend it.

Well, it's an RPG that has shooter combat mechanics. You can explore, do quests, interact with your squadmates and other NPCs, upgrade your party and their inventory, etc. It's just that the fighting bit of the game is "shoot stuff with crosshairs or cast powers (depending on your class, some are more shootery than others)" instead of "click on an enemy to auto-attack and then use special abilities."
The story is Bioware caliber (i.e. great), and one of the really neat things is that the player character is fully voiced, whether you're male or female.

I love it so much I'd marry it Pee Wee's Playhouse style.

How was Mass Effect 1? That...varies from person to person. I unfortunately am in the camp that would have a hard time convincing you to purchase it. That said though, I do have one pretty good reason you should give it a try: It's pretty dirt cheap now. I'm sure you can get a copy for $20 or less. No real reason to not give it a try at that price in my opinion.

Still love ME1. For the epic story and deep likeable characters supported by great voice acting, I'd very much advise running out tomorrow and getting it, if only to prepare for the sure to be AWESOME ME2.

earlier parts isn't as engaging as other Bioware RPGs i've played but when it gets going in the later stages, it's pretty darn epic.

Well worth trying it out, at least. If you look past some of the annoyances, it's a pretty solid piece of entertainment.

It's an awesome game; there is a very good reason it was ranked #1 by IGN and that ME2 is one of the most anticipated games.

Mass Effect is simply one of the best games there is.
It has character and plot depth, engaging decision making, an incredible galaxy to explore, and an immensely great combat system.

I loved ME. In terms of plot and plot twists, ME was definately superior to Dragon Age (It's Saren). In terms of character / companion development, Dragon Age is better (that's nto to say that ME was bad in that regard, it was pretty good, especially with characters like Wrex and Garrus). Gameplay wise, it depends if you like Third person shooters (ir doesn't actually succeed to be one). I personally preferred Dragon Age gameplay wise, because of the variety of skills and abilities, plus specilisations. classes in ME were too bland and meeh. So imo, gameplay in DA is better.
And, I always love when we get the sense of a real war going on, with some battles (sure, fighting with 5 or 6 NPCs isn't really a battle but still, you get the ambience). There is 0 of that in Mass Effect and it annoys me. And there was plenty of that in DA, and it satisfies me greatly. But that's just me.

no game delivers more content than ME1. After a dozen playthroughs you can still find new content.
