They have put a lot of effort into this game, so i assume the trailer should reflect that. However, being no expert in the area of game trailers, how long does it normally take to make a trailer? because according to the tweets, he has, what? 6 weeks and he's just starting?

Really depends on what he's got to work with. Assembling a trailer from a bunch of cut scenes, gameplay snippets, environment flybys etc that have already been provided would be a lot quicker than, say, having to jump into the game and capture footage yourself.
I think it's likely he's already been handed some pre-approved footage that needs cutting & editing thrown together with some white-text-on-black-background quotes and a bit of music.

I don't remember that well, but I think for the ME trailers he used a combination of pre-made stuff and going into the game with a modified camera to record other scenes (especially action, I think).

I hope is a gameplay/ingame asset based trailer. I prefer the trailers to actually show me what the game has rather than made up cgi which never happens.
