So, I loaded up ME last night to give it another whirl before ME2 comes out. It has been awhile since I have played it. So, I get my character all set and we head down to Eden Prime. I enter one of the trailers which has the two Doctors and lo' and behold the female doctor says,
"Humans! Thank the Maker!"
...WTF
Thank the Maker

Hahah YES.
I was playing it again after I'd finished up Dragon Age, and I had a bit of a "... o.O" moment when she said that. I had to remind myself I was playing ME.

I think the codex mentioned that most "God" religions have lost popularity to Prothion-inspired creationism and other faiths.

And there's a planet in Mass Effect named Amaranthine - tee-hee. However, since ME came out long before DA:O, I would think this is all just purely coincidental. The ME reference in DA:O was definitely an easter egg though. *chuckle*

Wow yeah I can remember her saying that now that mention it. Cool, did they have it planned for a long time? I don't know, awesomeness.

It's all a Lucas plot to control the world . *Imperial March plays in the background*

DA:O and ME are actually in the same universe. The Darkspawn have evolved from their savage roots into the persistent and annoying form known as the news reporter.

When I first played mass effect, I thought she was a robot.

I noticed the same thing when I played Mass Effect again. Dragon Age: Origins was in development for a very long time so it could have been an easter egg.

Aria: Are you afraid mercenaries will swoop down upon you?
Shepard: Yes, swooping is bad...

What I don't get is that chick saying that only for the whole awkward Shepard/Ashely God discussion on the Normandy. That convo made it seem like human religion was nigh-extinct while the Eden Prime lady gave no hint towards such a thought.

Would think it's an easter egg since Dragon Age has been an idea since 2004.

It's often the case in science fiction that religion is marginalized. A lot of authors ignore the great numbers of scientists that have a faith, be it Christianity or some other. I figure they were just extrapolating on that. Religion is a lot less widespread than it is now, but it's not disappeared.
I found ME to be a more even-handed view than some, as religion didn't disappear outright, which is often the case. You so often see statements like 'outgrown such superstitions' and so on, which are really insulting to those who have a faith.

Not this discussion again.... AAAAAARGH.
Plenty religious people in real life use the name ''Maker'' when referring to their God. It has nothing to do with Mass Effect or Dragon Age.
Well, if you look at the way Ashley is almost ashamed to discuss her beliefs, and automatically assumes most other people do not, it's pretty obvious theism has at least become uncommon in the future.

That "thank the maker" scene in the trailer bugged me too. What else bugged me is my brother started playing KOTOR to pass time while waiting for ME2 & Carth Onassi has the same voice actor as Kaiden Alenko
