It comes down to getting some friends to help you through gold, so you can get a feel for it

Your only maxed out weapon is the predator; you have low gel, rocket capacity; you have absolutely no consumables, only a few gear and weapon mods, none of the maxed out ...
Play more bronze/silver and buy recruit, veteran packs to max out common, uncommon weapons and buy JEPs to get consumables.

Hello, everybody. I'm a new player (N7 in the low 200's) and I'm trying to figure out when I should jump to Gold matches regularly - and if I do, what classes work best when making that jump. Right now with certain classes (Slayer, Shadow, Quarian Soldier) I can solo Bronze matches and I am always useful to my team on Silver matches. Every once in a while I'll pug a Gold match, but it how well I do really seems to depend on what consumables I have available.
I've been trying to get the Earth Mastery challenge finished, and I'm a little over halfway done with it. But since I've been doing that, I've been spending most of my credits on Arsenal boxes to unlock all the N7 characters. Which means, I am very under-geared all the time. The only great gun I have is the Hurricane, really.
If I go in with a Slayer, I seem to be useful in Gold matches - but not a stellar teammate. Is it true I should be able to solo a Silver with a class before really going into Gold matches?
Thanks for the help.
As long as you can score upwards of 60,000 points in a Gold match, you're golden. I never solo'd a silver until after I started playing gold regularly. The trick is guns you feel comfortable using, kits you enjoy, and teamwork. No, I'm serious. Teamwork is essential if you don't feel comfortable clutching waves/don't work well under pressure.

Optimal: When you can solo Gold wave 1 by yourself.
Minimum: When you can carry few Silver waves if you have to.
Reality: When you are N7:1 and has Avenger 1 equipped.
Just soloing wave 1 does not mean you are ready, you need to solo waves 1 and 2 as wave 2 lets you test your weapon against armor and some weapons fare very poorly with gold's 50 point armor reduction without sufficient AP mods/ammo. Additionally if you use up all your medigel just to do waves 1 and 2, you're not going to be of any use
The real gold test is to solo waves 1 and 2 without the use of equipment and consumables. Anyone that can do this will last until wave 6 unless in really bad conditions (only non infilitrator with 3 other infiltrators, etc)

You have a couple of excellent weapons the Wraith and Hurricane. You really need weapon mods, this was mentioned in an earlier post. As a strategy for spending credits buy recruit packs until you stop getting common level unlocks in those packs, this stops those common level weapons appearing in higher cost packs. Then you can buy vet packs (1 silver) or SPs (3 silver + 1 gold) which should help you get those weapon mods instead of PSPs.
Starting up a private gold game solo with no equipment will give you an idea of the sort of damage gold level enemies dish out and also the reduced shield/health gate duration. You don't need to do this but it will give you an idea of what you will be up against and force you to play defensively.

Anyway once youve racked up a little bit of cash, try maxing your uncommons (veteran packs).
Once you have a decent level eviscerator, a maxed out tempest and mattock you will have 3 weapon classes that are easily viable on gold with the right build.
Great build for tempest once you unlock it further, and unlock justicar to train situational awareness:
Asari justicar, full offensive radius bubble, full fitness, damage reduction reave and full passives.
Only thing you REALLY need for gold with that build is decent level warp ammo. the ROF of the tempest + warp ammo III/IV + reave + bubble debuff: feels like you are shooting a hurricane X without recoil .. well almost
Try to find matches with a juggernaut in it and create a killzone around it. You can even play glacier Platinum with that build/weapon.

Collectors Silver are also a good barometer. I personally don't have that hard a time with Collectors, but for a lot of people they are nearly of a higher difficulty level, and so good practice for moving on up.

I have an easy answer: If you can beat Silver comfortably without using equipment you are ready for Gold with equipment (lvl III peferably).Altheas wrote...

But:
If U die more then a lot then U better have a **** load of points/kills
If U don't have many points then U better have a lot of revives and do objectives
The best way to know is the one you already got in this topic from others... Get your best character, put in the weapons you use best and put on high level Consumables.
After you have done that you look up and ask the lord to watch over you and press start GOLD

Turian brandy, triple filtered, then introduced into the suit through an emergency induction port.
Has to be one of my absolute favourite parts of ME3

I suppose what everyone is saying about my mods/equipment/weapons would explain why I've only been successful with power classes or classes that fit well with the Hurricane as the main weapon. My best class by far is the N7 Slayer with the Hurricane as the primary weapon. I've had a couple good Gold runs with that class, or with the Shadow. Most other classes I've tried Gold with I start getting rocked and weigh my team down around wave 5.
Thank you much for the advice, everyone.
The Shadow is a great character, but a bit tricky character in "panic" situations... If you are fairly new then U can use that character on Gold but only if you put in more shields and make her fast.
Spend a lot of points in electric slash and put them in damage slots, do not engage to much in the shadow strike. The thing is U have to put a lot of effort in Shadow strike... I buffed it to make cloacked 2000 points of damage. Still you have to soften up most shielded enemies before you can insta kill them. Sure you can kill small enemies in 1 strike, but it goes faster if you put a gun in their face.
The Shadow is a very nice character to play, I love to play her.

A Shadow should be able to survive on her own with reasonable team mates.
And I really want to extract on Gold with the Phoenix Adept.

I'd recommend to keep experimenting and trying new things, it'll make you more well rounded in the long run. Try a wide variety of characters, guns, and tactics. Solos, games with friends, and games with pugs will all teach you different things.
There is absolutely no need to be able to solo silver before you start gold. If you can extract on silver regularly with randoms you'll be fine. I didn't even attempt to solo silver until after the Retaliation DLC came out, and I've played Gold since the demo.
If you want to make things a little easier on yourself, host. You'll be able to pick a map and enemy this way, which should help you plan your strategy ahead of time.

I notice you're on PS3, feel free to add me if you would like some help. PSN = hostaman
So you have the Hurricane, and also the SMG recoil mod - a good combo for Gold.
The Asari Huntress is good for survivability. But I would advise a noob to use cyclonics or other shield buffs to start with, but you don't seem to have much.
Just give Gold a go and see how you do. By the look of your manifest you don't have enough decent weapons, characters or gear at present, but it's always worth just jumping in.
In reality you probably need more Silver hours to improve your manifest and get some experience.
I never kick, so if you fancy a go with someone covering your back, give me a shout.
Oh and the advice you might hear from some people telling you to solo Silver before you're good for Gold is rubbish. I played many Gold matches to extraction before I went solo in Bronze!

Been playing Gold and Plat long before I ever did soloing. (This morning)
Be a team player, use consummables, pay attention to where your team is, use your appropreiate weaponry, and your golden.
