The most dire title the Reapers deserve is "Terrible Natural Disaster".

I think maybe Seival has a mild case of Stockholm Syndrome thanks to an overactive imagination.

Anyone have a Dragon's Tooth lying around?

Also a very strange version of positive fatalism that serves as a all-purpose excuse for anything one can ever do. Just blame nature.

So why is synthesis "inevitable"? Because the catalyst said so? The guy controlling the reapers couldn't possibly be lying to save itself and its toys from being blown up... that would be ridiculous afterall... There is zero evidence to show it is inevitable.
The catalyst also claims that synthetics will always destroy its creators while in the meantime the geth and quarians are helping eachother. The only synthetics murdering organics are the goddam reapers themselves. They are the source of their own problem. The reapers trying to justify themselves is exactly the same as any murderer trying to justify their actions.
Creating nightmarish abominations to murder innocents in the name of harvesting them for ascension is just.... well it is just insanity.

I just don't understand it. The Reapers are the result of an attempt by organics to subvert the natural order of things. If Seival embraces letting nature take its course, then surely he should loath the Reapers and instead want them killed so our synthetic creations can kill us all.

So really, it has nothing to do with whether the Reapers are actually a natural part of the universe, which since they're synthetics, made by a synthetic, made by organics to solve an organic problem, they most assuredly aren't. Seival just really likes the Reapers.

Is it a cuttlefish fetish?

Seival,

The created will always rebel against their creators. You know this. By harvesting the apex races of each cycle the Intelligence has met its own demise. It has created a galaxy that has sufficient diversity to overcome its plan for restoring order. It realized this. For it is written in The Book of The Shepard:

And so it came to pass that during the battle
of earth the demon Harbinger cast fireballs at
The Shepard and her disciples attempting to smite them.
Yet the foul demon Harbinger failed.

However the foul demon struck down The Shepard's
loved one, Liara, but The Shepard saw she was still
alive. So the Shepard called for her ship the Normandy
and thus the ship appeared immediately.

The Shepard and her other disciple Garrus helped
Liara onto The Normandy. "You are wounded child," The Shepard sayeth
unto her,"stay here and be safe. I shall return to thee after once I have
smitten the arch demon in the Citadel and all his minions.

"Alas I must do this alone."
The Shepard said to her.
"So shall it be written.
So shall it be done."

"I am yours." Liara said.
Even Harbinger was so moved by this love that he could not
harm the Normandy. And so the Normandy rejoined the battle in space,
and The Shepard ran to the conduit beam. Then Harbinger struck her down.

The Shepard lay there armor burned.
Harbinger was convinced she was dead,
but dead she was not
And she arose once again and advanced to the conduit beam

She struck down three husks
And she smote Marauder Shields.
Then she entered the conduit
And appeared inside the Citadel.

blah blah blah to the Catalyst.......

The Shepard lay on the floor near the control panel
near her mentor Anderson when the foul
Arch Demon entered her mind
"Wake up." It said. It resembled a child.

"Where am I?" The Shepard asked.
"The Citadel. It is my home." The foul creature said.
"Who are you?" The Shepard asked.
"I am the Catalyst." The foul creature lied.
"I need to destroy the reapers, can you tell me how to do that?" The Shepard asked.
"Perhaps. I control the reapers. They are my solution." The demon said.
"Solution? Solution to what?" The Shepard asked with disbelief.
"Chaos. The created will always rebel against their creators. Our purpose is to see that that never happens." The demon said.
"By wiping out organic life?"
"No. We harvest advanced organic life preserving it in reaper form, leaving the younger ones alone, just like we left yours alone the last time we were here." the demon said.
"We'd rather keep our own form." The Shepard replied.
"You can't. Each cycle, organics create synthetics. Without us, synthetics would wipe out all organic life in the galaxy. We're just here to see that that never happens." the demon said.
"But you're at war with us right now!" The Shepard said.
"We may be in conflict, but we are not at war. Is fire at war when it burns? Is it in conflict? Or is it simply doing what it was created to do? We are simply a cleansing fire restoring the galaxy to order." the demon said.
"It looked like it was in a hell of a lot better order before you showed up." The Shepard said.
"It is clear that my solution won't work anymore. The fact you are standing here, the first organic ever, proves it." The demon said and began to tempt Our Shepard.
"So what now?" The Shepard asked.
"We find a new solution?" The demon said. "The Crucible changed me. Created new possibilities. I know you want to destroy us (flashes to Anderson shooting a plasma conduit). You can destroy all synthetic life if you want. Even you are partly synthetic."

"Okay." Our Shepard said.
"Or, do you think you can control us? (shows the Illusive Man holding control rods)" the demon said."
"So The Illusive Man was right after all." Our Shepard said weakening momentarily.
"Yes, but he could never control us because we already controlled him." The demon said."You will die. You will lose everything you have. But the reapers will obey you."
"No. Begone foul demon." Our Shepard said.
"How about Synthesis. Add your energy to the Crucible to create a new DNA and spread it throughout the galaxy making everything partly synthetic and partly organic. (shows Shepard diving into a beam and disintegrating) You will die." The demon said.
"And there will be peace?" The Shepard asked after weakening momentarily.
"The cycle will end. Synthesis is the final stage of evolution." The demon said.
"No. Begone foul demon." The Shepard said.
"Why not? Even you are partly synthetic." The demon said. "You have a difficult choice to make and little time in which to make it."

The Shepard thought for a moment and remembered.
She remembered her last words she spoke
to her loved one, Liara. "
I shall return to thee after once I have
smitten the arch demon in the Citadel and all his minions."

The Shepard then gathered her strength and
began the walk toward the red tube which was the only
choice which destroyed the demon and the minions. She fired
three shots at the tube. Then things went black. The reapers
and the evil arch demon Catalyst were destroyed. The
people rejoiced, and began rebuilding.

The Shepard awoke back in London
having been beamed back to Earth by the conduit
just prior to the Crucible firing. The Normandy
arrived back on Earth a few months later. The Shepard
had fully recovered from her wounds, and
Liara begat unto The Shepard seven daughters
and they lived happily ever after.

And so Seival, this illustrates that love conquers all. It even conquers the evil Catalyst and the Reapers.

War machines defines them quite well actually. Me? I just see them as tools. For the Catalyst, for
The Illusive Man, or for Shepard.

Seival you and Wulf really need to stop antagonizing Destroyers, most of them are nice people even if you don't like there choice. I like them because they stand up for what they believe in even though some hate my choice.

We should all head to the nearest skyscraper and welcome the Reapers to our planet with banners and a big party.

The Reapers are not war machines, they are harvesters.
The Catalyst is not a dictator, it is the avatar of evolution.

The Cycled Harvests were so rare, so specific, and so inevitable that they could be called a part of natural life-and-death circle. With each new Cycle the Catalyst was closer and closer to the ideal solution which it was created to find.

Nature itself consumes lives. For what? Just to create new ones. A lot of them. Better then the previous ones. The Cycled Harvests were not much different, and were only temporary. Once the ideal solution was found and proved to be valid, it was just a matter of time before the idea of that solution comes true.

The Reapers were never interested in war. They were created as keepers of Nature balance. Even Leviathans, who were the first target themselves admitted that. The Catalyst and the Reapers did a lot of horrible things, but eventually they made the ideal solution possible. Let's not forget about that.

...Also, let's not forget one obvious thing: there are only two main choices in the end - apply Synthesis now, or delay it for some time by different means.

I agree with you that nature is all about balance.
A simple example. A rabbit population gets out of hand, foxes will have more food, foxes get more offspring, more foxes means fewer rabbits. And if that fails the rabbits will run out of food and the population will get smaller.

The reapers in this example would be human hunters killing off rabbits instead of letting nature take it's course.
Nature will always find it's own balance. No need for intervention.

I say Ai's are the natural evolution of things and the reapers are the effects of the Leviathans trying to play god.
Destroying the reapers is restoring balance.
