So does any one here remember these classic PC games,Ultima The Black Gate,Serpents Isle,Pagan and Ascension?now these were BAD ASS games,Great stories, characters, very cool items(weapons, sheilds, armor, and such)and The Gaurdian was a kick ass bad guy!
I just finished Dragon Age Origins and am about to play it again, and while playing this game it made me think of the above mentioned games and I was wondering if any one else here remembered all those gems.
OH the good ol' days,I had hours, and hours of time spent on those games and now DA:O is going to get a lot of my time, the expansion cannot come out fast enough.

probably not many here even remember these titles LOL

also what about Ultima Underworld parts 1 & 2,more classic coolness.

My love of Ultima predates those a bit. I started with Ultima III (didn't care for II or I until I was upgraded on the PC), and when Ultima IV came out it blew me away. Ultima VIII was interesting but glitchy, even after all the patches. Got tired of respawns, skeletons not staying down (yeah, yeah, Grant Peace - but they respawn anyway), and falling through floors to my doom. Absolutely loved the magic system though. Ultima IX is still fun to play now and then; love the seamless world with never a loading screen.

DA:O doesn't make me think back to those games. It reminds me more of NWN2, The Witcher, etc., in terms of gameplay and graphics. In other words, just another 3D CRPG with myriad load screens and patchwork world maps. It's a fun enough game, like the others, but nothing to blow my socks off.

I played and still have the entire Ultima series. My first RPG if you can call it that was ZORK on my Commodore 64. No graphics but a good story and game play for a totally text game. The Ultima series was the first graphic RPG I had and as mentioned above was a great game. I became a true hooked gamer with those games. I have always enjoyed the story based games more so that an FPS because I feel like I get to be 'in the story' like reading a good book. I totally respect the developers and writers and the entire team that it takes to put a game of this type and magnitude into the hands of the hard core gamers. The ability to make it challenging for us and yet appealing to newcomers is an awesome task that deserves our respect.

To all - Make today a Great day

It was Ultima III for the NES as my first video game RPG that got me hooked on RPG's.

Genius stuff.
