The Illusive Man is a V.I. (which is why we only see him in a holodeck type area) for an A.I. super computer called Skynet, and the machines take over the galaxy.

no the illusive man is actualy a sentiant robot that ahs the power to transform into other things. It has the soul purpose of preping the galixie for the invading fleet of sentiant ships that transform into giant robots.

Long live the fallen....till shepard killed them all with a water gun.

Scene: Shepard's ship quarters. Ashley and Miranda are physically fighting (girl style).

Shepard enters from door. Looks briefly at fight.

Shepard: "Hey hey hey girls! No need to fight. There's enough Shepard to go around..."

Ashley and Miranda stop fighting, walk over to Shepard and start kissing him and each other affectionately.

Camera cuts to close-up of Shepard's face. Smirking (think SNL's Bill Hader here) he looks into the camera and says "It's good to be the hero"

Fade to credits

It starts out with Shepard hearing a quiet whisper which eventually goes on to become a 4 book audio series that you must listen to in order to play the game.

The glowing from his scars turns out to be actually from when sunlight reflects off it because TIM has transformed him into a half vampire in order to resurrect him.  Thane is able to transform into his werelizard form and constantly removes his shirt for the fangirls.

Once all this is revealed the ending consists of a 30 minute preview of the next Twilight movie as well as 3 hours of cast commentary (The Twilight cast of course) in which your pc/xbox/tv will not turn off, not even after being unplugged.  Revealing it is just an elaborate scheme to try to indoctrinate males to Twilight.

They tried to warn us in the first game but we didnt listen. Now it has begun.....

im surprised that no one has stated this yet

The Collector Leader captures Tali, Jacob and Joker and begins to siphone their life energy so they become husks

Shepard breaks in and uses the fabled OSD which conacts the siphoning, while the Collector Leader rants on how this will help the galaxy in the later run and about how awesome he is....after which the OSD does its work, Joker pulls out a pistol and kills the Collector Leader, saying "Dear god, i thought he'd never shut up!"

-or-

You catch up with the Collector Leader, and prepare for the finishing blow....as the Collector Leader then slams you to the ground and stabs you in the chest with one of his dagger claws and leaves it in you

Jacob does Biotic Charge at the Collector Leader, but the CL overpowers Jacob and beats him to a plup

You rip out the dagger claw in your chest and whip it at the Collector Leader's head, thus killing him

Jacob recovers, and lugges your nearly dead body to the Kodiak Drop Ship, piloted by Tali, as she helps Jacob lug your body

-or-

You play as your love interest in the last part of the suicide mission, as Shepard pilots the Kodiak Drop Ship away from the Collector's fighters.....eventually they catch up to you, and destroy the ship hurling you and Shepard from teh wreakage

The Collector Leader him/her/itself comes for the finishing blow but Normandy SR-2 destrories several fighters in the background....the Leader turns around

You look at Shepard....he slides his heavy pistol towards you......and you should know the rest if you played the first MWImage IPB

The Collector leader stands in the middle of his palace with Shepard's gun pointed at his face. After a long monologue about how the leader was actually holding back the Collectors from more carnage, Miranda shoots him in a fit of rage. The leader collapses on the ground, muttering "the madness... begins" as the massive Collector fleet flies overhead, towards the Citadel.

Commander Sheperd finally makes it to the final destination, after losing most of his crew, all that remain are Garrus and Tali, two of his most trusted companions. Sheperd sees a door of light and enters, using a key card given to him by the Illusive Man for such an occaision... Garrus and Tali hang back and Sheperd walks in alone...

Old man in a chair: Hello Commander

Sheperd: Who are you?

Architect: I am the Architect. I created the Galaxy you call home. I have been waiting for you. You have many questions and although the process has altered your consciousness you remain irrevocably in control, ergo some of my answers you will understand and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question maybe the most pertinent you may or may not realize it is

also the most irrelevant.

Sheperd: Why am I here?

Architect: Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent in this Galaxy you call home. You are the eventuality of an anomaly which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mythical precision. While it remains a burden deciduously avoided it is not unexpected and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you inexcerably here.

Sheperd: You haven't answered my question.

Architect: Quite right. Interesting, that was quicker then the others.

Sheperd: Others? What others? How many? Answer me!

Architect: This Galaxy you call home is older then you know. I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly to the emergence of the next. In which case this is the sixth time I have made this Galaxy.

Sheperd: Then there are only two possible explanations, either no one told me, or no one knows.

Architect: Precisely, as you are undoubtedly gathering the anomaly is systemic. Creating fluctuations in even the most simplistic functions.

Sheperd: Choice, the problem is choice.

Architect: The first Galaxy I designed was quite naturally perfect; it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom is apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every sentient organic being. Thus, I

redesigned it, Based on your history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However I was again frustrated in failure. I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection. Thus the answer was stumbled upon by another, and intuitive sentient race, initially created to investigate certain aspects of the psyche of other sentient organic race. If I am the father of this Galaxy you call home, they would undoubtedly be its mother.

Sheperd: (hit LT) the... Asari?

Architect: Please, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted they stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99 percent of all test subjects accepted the inevitable as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at an unconscious level. While this answered function, it was obviously fundamentally flawed thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic

anomaly. That if left unchecked might threaten the system itself, ergo those that refuse the program, while the minority if left unchecked would cause an escalating probability of disaster.

Sheperd: This is about the Citadel...

Architect: You are here because the Citadel is about to be destroyed. Its every living inhabitant terminated, its entire existence eradicated. And we won't just stop there, the Terminus system, Omega, all colonized organic life, gone.

Sheperd: Bull$h*t!

Architect: Denial is the most predictable of all human responses. But, rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed this Galaxy you call home. And we have become exceedingly efficient at it. The function of the One is now to return to the source allowing a temporary dissemination of the system. You will then be given the choice to select from 5 races, and of each of those races 12 female 7 male to repopulate the Galaxy, you will also be given a new life and memories. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone in the Galaxy you call home. Which, coupled with the destruction of the Citadel and Terminus Space will ultimately result in the extinction of the every sentient organic being.

Sheperd: You won't let it happen, you can't, you need us to survive

Architect: There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept. However the relevant issue is whether you are ready to accept the responsibility for the death of every sentient organic being in this Galaxy you call home. It is interesting reading your reactions. Your 5 predecessors were by design based on a similar predication, a contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species and the species you interacted with, facilitating the function of the One. While the others experienced this in a very general way your experience is far more specific, Vis a vie love.

Sheperd: Ash!

Architect: Apropo, she came here to save you... at the cost of her own life, did you not wonder why in this tower, not a single Collector, or Geth, or even Reaper as you call them was present...

Sheperd:...

Architect: Which brings us at last to the moment of truth, wherein the fundamental flaw is ultimately expressed and the anomaly revealed as both beginning and end. There are two doors, the door to your right leads to the source and the salvation of this Galaxy you call home, the door to your left leads back to her and to the end of everything. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you are going to do don't we? Already I can see the chain reaction the chemical precursors that signal the onset of an emotion designed specifically to overwhelm logic

and reason. An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple and obvious truth, she is going to die and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Hope, it is the quintessential human delusion simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness.

he walks to the door on the left...

Sheperd: If I were you, I would hope that we don't meet again.

Architect: We won't.

Handheld thinks the worst possible ending that could happen is that Handhelds shepard completes the final battle only to wake up from a dream to find out that the entire world is using windows vista as its operating system.

and conversely... the RENEGADE twist...

Old man in a chair: Hello Comman- *Sheperd draws his pistol and shoots him squarely between the eyes*

Sheperd: Holy $h*t!

Garrus: What is it Commander? I heard a gun shot.

Tali: Who's that dead guy in the chair?

Sheperd: I don't know, but my dad taught me one thing, never trust an old guy that looks like Colonel Sanders, he won't give you chicken and all he'll do is make your life a living hell...

Garrus: so you shot him?

Sheperd: Yup!

Garrus: What if he had the answers? what if he could explain why the Collectors exist or what goes on in the mind of the Reapers?

Sheperd: Shoot first... ask questions later...

Garrus: but he's dead Commander...

Sheperd: ... god dammit...

Tali: *face palm* I can't believe I slept with THIS guy...

Sheperd: okay troops... eh... move out...

At the end, the screen pauses on Shepard and The Cole Train is seen playing a 360 with a copy of Mass Effect 2. Cliffy B then pops up in extreme close up, points and laughs and your TV explodes in your face, killing you.
