How about a companion like Hodor (from ASOIAF) or that enchantment dude. A character that don't need much writing because all they do is say the same word again and again. I believe a character like that is low cost but they are nice to have none the less, just so there is more options as for the companions you bring along. Sorta like the dog but just a half-wit.

I think it would be interesting. What do you think?

Sandal is too OP to be a party member.

Someone like Sandal. It don't have to be him. Someone named Boxo or whatever. A NEW one. :)

Sandal would kill all the bad guys before we got a chance through "Not Enchantment".

Alistair isn't stupid enough. I'm talking about someone as dumb as Hodor or Sandal. Alistair could speak in sentences.

and in a  twist Sandal becomes a Mage Dwarf Companion in DA3 and turns out to be the most intelligent person in the game series and is the Jesus Christ of the DA world.

I could see the benefits of having an eight-foot-tall, dim-witted, mute companion who can smash skulls. Make him or her an LI, and I'm totally on board!

Adding a half-wit to typical biowarian cast full of stupid people would surely cause the universe to implode.

edit: well **** me, I just called a bunch of fictional characters "people". I think it means that I need to get out more.

Comedic responses aside, any other thoughts regarding why this would be interesting for you?

If it doesn't involve much conversation and is lightweight in that regard, it seems to me to come across as more of a character that allows the player to have an NPC that is perhaps closer to a "generated" party member (i.e. a player created NPC). Which I can see some people liking. I am curious if this is why you would find it interesting.

I don't think this would lead to a companion that you could fight with personally. The sort of character that has a learning disability and is in a drama is something like a Forrest Gump or Gilbert Grape. And although those characters and the movies relating to those characters are good... I don't know about feeling sad/upset is the feelings I want to go for when I play video games :<, if I feel upset I want to feel upset because of conflict in the writing, and not because of someone's inability to do something that they want to do.

I wouldn't mind dumb people, but a person with a disability would take centre stage.

When I first played DA2 I thought Ketojan the Qunari Saarebas Mage (the one who is all chained up with his face sown up) was going to be a companion. He might not have been a half-wit, but he was 'dumb' in the old fashioned, politically incorrect sense of the word (ie. he didn't say very much.) I was really hoping to have him as a companion.

Edit: Just looked Ketojan up on the wiki. To be honest, he doesn't really fit the 'half-wit' companion model any more than, say, Sten does... oh well, at least we can reasonably expect there to be a dog to function as the half-wit companion in DA3. [Edit 2 - I meant to say that the dog would function as a 'non-verbal' companion, rather than a 'half-wit.' Needless to say, having low intelligence does not put you in the same category as an animal. Apologies for any offence caused.]
