How about a half-wit as a companion?

How about a companion like Hodor (from ASOIAF) or that enchantment dude. A character that don't need much writing because all they do is say the same word again and again. I believe a character like that is low cost but they are nice to have none the less, just so there is more options as for the companions you bring along. Sorta like the dog but just a half-wit.

I think it would be interesting. What do you think?

Comedic responses aside, any other thoughts regarding why this would be interesting for you?

If it doesn't involve much conversation and is lightweight in that regard, it seems to me to come across as more of a character that allows the player to have an NPC that is perhaps closer to a "generated" party member (i.e. a player created NPC). Which I can see some people liking. I am curious if this is why you would find it interesting.

Anyway, related to my previous post, perhaps we could choose one from a number of animal companions to function as a non-verbal companion. Ie., a mabari, a halla, a golem, a wolf, etc. You could then customise their appearance and combat tactics as you see fit. Maybe they change appearance depending on whether you are good or evil.

Interesting idea!

I don't really know if I want to delve into the implications of a "half-wit" being akin to a "generated" party member. That sort of implies people with developmental disabilities don't have personalities of their own.

My point was more to the lines that the original suggestion alluded to conversations where the person simply states the same thing again and again. Unfortunately, I see that as quite a restriction to really developing the character if communication is restricted. Though I suppose there could be other, creative ways. This would still go against the OP's support which involves the character being "low cost," however.

If you guys are looking at the possibility of a party member that is developed by the PC, then it would be better if it were something more like the Pawns in Dragon's Dogma, ie. a mindless automaton.

Eh, don't read too much into my response in this thread. I'm more facilitating discussion by engaging with the fanbase, as opposed to revealing super secret information and knowledge!

Have you not yet seen the tattoo on your back that says "Don't trust the goose?"

As a general note, if you think there's a very obvious joke and the thread is more than a few posts long, it's probably already been said.
