Saren ws the perfect antagonist. He wans't just evil for no reason. He wanted to save organic life, and though he was doing what needed to be done. He shouldn't been killed. There shoudl have been the potential to being him back at some point. He was just to well done.

Saren was a great villain, even if in the novel he has some strange changes in character over time.
First he wants to protect the Council, then he wants to overthrow the Council, thinking that was his destiny all along, first he says he's not amonster, then he lets innocent people, that he could have saved with no problem at all, die or shoots them himself...
I think he has a natural cruel streak that he funells into defeating the Council's enemies, but letting that batarian woman die for absolutly no reason was kind of uncalled for.
I liked his character a lot better the way he was portrayed in the game compared to the novel version, but that's just my two cents.
In the game it seemes like he thought that what he was doing was the only thing he could. Shepard is a hero because he tried to do the impossible and suceeded, while saren kind of seemed to think: " They can't be stopped, there is no better alternative."

I still regret that he got incinerated at the end of ME, would haven been funny to have him hon your squad in ME2 or 3. Even if everybody would probably try to blow his brains out. Again.
Some questions still remain unanswered: Why does Saren have a Glasgow-smile?
And why is his face completly different from every other turian out there?
Despite the fact that only Saren looks this way his picture is the one that shows up in the turian codey entry in ME2, irc.

Saren is what made the first book great IMO

It's a bit broader then other turian's and there is that gap between his eyebrows and his nose.
However I think that was more of a design choice and we will never get an explenation just why he looks that way.
Though it would be fun landing on a planet that is populated by Saren look-alikes

Will not speak ill of the dead...suffice to say he had his pros and cons it seems every alien in ME1 hated humans at first but changed their mind after Shepards good deeds i don't see why Saren shouldn't have been given a similar chance! I will remind you that most of the attrocities he performed where against humans before they earned the citadels respect so who is to say he may not have quieted down in ME2 if he got the chance to survive it! He did seem to come to respect Shepard in the end, after all!

Saren was amazingly badass. He went out with a bang (no pun intended), and served as a lesson in dealing with Reapers: if you're working with them, you're already Indoctrinated.
