you should look into TlkEdit2 or maybe a character editor
In TlkEdit2 "Deity" is listed right there in the .bic/.ifo as a simple string; just click your old deity twice, type in a new one, save the file & reload Game.
it requires Java but i have no prob with it on XP SP3
