Don't know about you guys, but after playing the games I started viewing my squadmates as family members, imagining how they would fit into my deadly reaper killing family. Obviously not in a biological sense, but theoretically what their position would be. Heres how I view my teammates.

Shepard: Father
Miranda: Mother
VS Survivor: Close in age brother/sister
Garrus: Best friend, known since they were in diapers and thick as thieves, close as family
Tali: Younger sister
Liara: Similar boat as Garrus, close as family
Wrex:  Crazy awesome uncle I'd go to the bar with
Jacob: Brother in law who ends up being cool and watches the game with you
Mordin:  Quirky cousin who won all those academic awards
Jack:  Rebellious teenage daughter who grows into her own
Zaeed:  Crazy awesome grandfather
Kasumi: thats a tough one...good natured friend who acts as the comedian
Grunt:  Nephew who you think might be a little crazy but you love him to death
Thane:  Work associate who you're good friends with
Samara:  Grandmother who you deeply respect
Legion:  Family Dog (in a good way)
EDI: Family Cat:  (in a good way)
James:  Son
Javik: Great grandfather, war vet who keeps on telling you stories about his war days.

I think thats everyone...I mainly keeping to squadmates cause otherwise the list would be enormous.

Anyone else think of their team in this sense or am I cray cray?

For some reason, I've always seen Grunt as my son on my Renegade playthrough. Other than that, no.

Understandable, I was torn between son and nephew myself.

I see everyone in a similar way, but not exactly the way you organized them.

Here's how I'd have them set up:

Shepard (Paragon): Cousin who everyone likes and tries to compare you to.

Shepard (Renegade): Cousin who is a d*ck to everyone and whom no-one likes, but respects.

Garrus: Best buddy who you could get into trouble with.

Tali: A little sister who looks up to you and grows into her own person.

Ash: Older sister who won't shy away from a fight.

Kaidan: The brother who tries to be normal, but can never get it right.

Kasumi: That cousin who always gets away with things that you can't help but be good friends with.

Zaeed: That crazy uncle who has dozens of war stories.

Miranda: That sister who seems like a b*tch, but who you eventually warm up to.

Jacob: A cousin who had problems with his father and tries to be nice to everyone.

Legion: That guy who just seems out of place, but doesn't show it.

Samara: A grandmother who seems cold, but is actually quite nice and you can't help but respect her.

EDI: That person who tries the be funny but is so bad at it that people still laugh.

Thane: A good friend who you just have to respect.

Grunt: The troublemaker who you just have to like.

Wrex: That crazy head-buttin uncle that you never had.

Mordin: The cousin who is smarter than everyone else and loves to challenge himself.

Liara: The sister who tends to keep to herself, but can still be one of your best friends.

James: The brotheer that is respectful of others, but will still speak his mind.

Javik: The crazy grandfather who enjoys messing with people, but is serious most of the time.

Jack: Rebellious teenager who who eventually tones down her attitude somewhat.

Joker: The cousin who likes to joke around, but sometimes goes too far.

I think that's everyone, but I'm sure I forgot a couple people.

Viewing analogy in terms of romance options...

Implications... unpleasant.

...so you're saying Zaeed is not Shepard's father?

You're right actually, I use to view him that way but I figured Javik would fit better as grandfather...

Looks like someone is getting bumped to great grandfather!

If you have never thought of the Normandy's crew as a surrogate family, I'm not sure you joined BSN for the right reasons ;)

I meant that when I play sp and interact with my team, I don't constantly think "oh, hi sis", "what's up, mom?" or "hi there, bro". Doesn't mean I don't love them all to bits anyway.

Haha, interesting idea OP, pretty darn cute too imho.

I do love the crew so much and feel like they're family, just not as detailed as you =)
Probably see Grunt as a son and funny how I view my Paragade Shep doesn't mind playing mom to a Krogan teenage =P

And as far as my headcanon allows me to conjure up a story, I could definitely see Garrus, Tali, Traynor, Miranda, Wrex, etc being the cool uncle/aunt to my Shep's kids when she has a couple of her own with Kaidan.

I mainly just think of Wrex as family, him being Uncle Urdnot and all.

Family is not about blood ties or the superficial shallow labels of blood relations, its about who you love and the bonds of affection and brotherhood that transcend the lack of genetic commonalities. I have never applied familial labels to My ME family, however I have always loved them all as a family. I cannot count the nights I have fantasized about these characters and worried over them, enjoying their storyarcs outside of the boundaries of the game, been proud of them for their individua accomplishments, been heartsick at the hurt they have experienced.

The charactrs were a labor of love by the bioware writers and it shows. The powerful affection players feel for them is a lesson I hope Bioware will take to heart. It shocked me when I read that the writers didn't think the p;ayers would care about the NPC's in ME when the ending controversy began. Was it not the intention of Bioware to make us fall in love with these characters? To make us follow their story arcs, their personalities, their character growth, influenced by our PC's interactions over 3 games and love them? Bioware you succeeded and apparently beyond your expectations.

I love DAO, I love the NPC's in that game excpet for Loghain who I hate and Vaughn who I rabidly foaming at the mouth stab stab kill kill hate. But ME well these games have achieved what no game before them has. They have created characters that influence me in life. What would Shepard do, what would Garrus Say. No, you are not a krogan you cannot headbutt your coworker. WWJD= What would Jack do? Sometimes when I am stressed or sad I load up ME or a character from ME2 and just play and I already know the story but I play to hang out with the NPC's because I need the distraction from real life and these characters all engage me on an emotional level that is unlike any other game I have ever played before.

My ME family is a band of brothers and sisters in arms. You know what someone should make an AMV of ME1,2,and 3 with that song who can I request that from. I prefer the Dire straits version myself but Celtic Thunder did a pretty good cover.
