Anyone seen it yet? What did you think?

I enjoyed it alot, love the mini twist. I don't think it was as good as Iron Man 1 but it was still good. Its a bit sad to think it might be the last one.

That end fight was pretty rad alright, but it was kinda the only fight in it which was so not rad, y'know?

I'm planning to watch it, but I read online that people find it boring. If it's the last movie, it would be a bit of a let down.

What did ye think of the extremis virus? I think with the pros of it out weigh the cons, I think the military WOULD use it and if you survive the transformation of it the cons seem rather manageable. I wonder though did Tony fix the virus at the end or did he cure/erase it?

Liked it quite a lot. The twist was great. The suit doesn't get used that much, but there's a lot of out-of-suit badassery from both Iron Man and War Machine instead, which was awesome. And when the suit does get used for the fight in the end, it's used so creatively. Just great.
If you can, I advise you not to watch the film in 3D. The 3D didn't really add anything to the movie and was just distracting.

Warning: Following segment of this post contains spoilers.

Now, one thing that bugged me was how casually it dealt with the whole traumatic experience issues Tony Stark's apparently having how. He has panic attacks. But then he just doesn't anymore. I was really wondering how they'd tie that to the Mandarin/Extremis virus plot. Turns out they didn't deal with it at all. I'm assuming that's just there to foreshadow the plot of Avengers 2 or Iron Man 4. Which sucks. You don't bring up a problem in the first act of a movie to deal with the problem in the next movie. That's stupid.
Also, does anyone actually believe the Mandarin's really dead? If one big fiery explosion couldn't hurt him, why would a second big fiery explosion kill him?

^A guy can survive being shot in the head once but it doesn't mean he can do so twice (especially in a short period of time).

@DinoSteve It would be kinda douchey if he alright erased it. He could find a way to remove things like fire breathing and temperature control along with turing them into the sun if things go wrong.

Anyway I liked it. Can't compare it to Iron Man 1, since I can't remember it, but I liked it better than 2.

I just thought it was bad writing, Stark was supposed to go on a journey in the film whereby he came to the realistion at the end that Iron Man was just a crutch and he should have his operation, but it didn't give any impetus for the change. The movie tried to be more character based rather than a super hero film but it just fell flat and neither part was any good. Shane Black is no Joss Whedon. Very disappointing film. And I disliked the portrayal of the Mandarin.

That was what it was supposed to mean? But if he was supposed to realize that Iron Man was just a crutch, why is the last line he says "I am Iron Man"?
I guess it does make sense when you think about it. The one scene I'd pinpoint where he stops having panic attacks is the one where the kid tells him that he should just build something because he's a mechanic. So I suppose he learns to fight his demons with his own ingenuity instead of with his suit? There was a lot of potential for that character arc, but, sadly, it does fall flat. It's just too subtle. Maybe in a different movie I would've picked up on that on first viewing. But this is Iron Man 3.
I thought it was a pretty decent super hero film though. The scene where he had to save over a dozen falling people genuinely had me at the edge of my seat.

By the looks of the trailer I thought he'd be stranded on Tibet or somewhere similar. I must admit I was a bit disappointed.

I guess I'll give my two cents.

While I still like the first Iron man best this one was surely much better then 2. I like how Stark use more of his wits then just his armor all the time, tough you will feel like you're not seeing the armors enough during the movie. The plot twist was... disappointing, really. Not only because is ignores the lore of the comics, but also because it makes all the adversment and trailers very misleading. They could have done something different in my opinion. The Igor armor did not have enough screen time, period. And I wish the Iron patriot did more then just saving the president.

The movie played with your expectations. I liked that. It did something really bold and unique there.

 Spoilers. So many spoilers.
--
I liked what they tried to do with the writing - the PTSD, the twistiness of the plot - but it feels like they didn't quite pull it off. I loved the Mandarin reveal, but the casual way they tossed aside the anxiety attacks and that ending... well, I respect them for trying, but bits of the script felt rushed or forgottem about. It didn't really break any new ground, or when it did, it felt rushed and out of place.

Very enjoyable, well-acted, good fun to sit through, but definitely not my favourite of the three. I loved Downey Jr.'s last collaboration with Black, the underrated Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but it had similar problems and employed similar writing tricks.

I am Chinese.  I have already decided that I am going to skip Iron Man 3 -- because of the inclusion of the Mandarin.  I do not know if my decision to not bother with the movie can be counted as a "boycott".  I just know I am not going to give my money to a racist movie.

I am just going to be blunt here: the Mandarin is racist.  It is a racial caricature.  It is the typical "Fu Manchu" representation of the Yellow Peril that degrades and demonizes Chinese people.    I was offended when I read that Iron Man 3 was going to include the Mandarin, especially because the director Shane Black had publicly said that the Mandarin was racist.   He knew the Mandarin is racist, yet he still knowingly chose to include the caricature in his movie.  I am also very disappointed that China had put money into making Iron Man 3 with the Mandarin.  What was China thinking? Why would China fund a movie with a racist caricature that specifically disgraces and demonizes Chinese?!?  China should have banned  the movie, not funded it.

The sad thing is, the movie would likely do well in China, because most Chinese in China do not know anything about the comic book, the Mandarin, and do not know of its racist origin and nature.

Spoilers but if you don't go to see it you shouldn't care

Funny thing is what they do with the Mandarin is completely avoiding any racial stereotyping. Guy Pearce's character is the real Mandarin and he is caucasian. The Ben Kingsley character is an actor hired to play the role but he's not actually meant to be chinese.

Yeah, I think Downey's contract is fulfilled after this one. He'll do Avengers 2 of course, but most likely gone after that. Paltrow reportedly has had enough, too.

@KT Chong: It's a pity you wouldn't give the movie a chance because it actually completely subverts your expectations in that regard.
The lesson here is, don't judge a book by its cover - or a movie by its trailers.

I have to agree - the Mandarin in his classic appearance is pretty much a racial caricature, and I don't really think many people would have wanted the character to be portrayed like that in the movie (okay, yeah, a lot of hardcore purist fans probably did).

Luckily that's not the path Marvel and Shane Black took with the character named Mandarin in the movie. They included a "Mandarin", but it's not the "Fu Manchu Mandarin" you despise. Ben Kingsley's character and his appearance definitely play with stereotypes and use specific visual elements to invoke certain associations within the audience, but they haven't that much to do with the classic portrayal of the Mandarin as far as I know.

And that's not even considering the twist regarding the character that other posters have already mentioned. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I surely will in the next few days. I'd suggest you give the movie a chance, because based on the things I heard/read about it the following seems to be true:

As long as you're not a hardcore fan of the classic Mandarin chances are you'll like it! Posted Image

This movie was a Shane Black action comedy that featured Tony Stark. As an IronMan adaptation, especially one of the three arcs they sampled, it was utter ass. I've never been so disappointed in a movie.

Just got back from it, was pretty disappointed.

It's a good film, but if you come in with any comic book expectations...you'll be let down. Wish I knew ahead of time, I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but I didn't want to be spoiled so I went in blind.

Disappointed.

Not as good as I thought it would be. Just lost interest.

That Mandarin guy, he said he didn't know people were dying or that he was doing anything bad. But didn't he just shoot a guy on TV?

And the Pepper Potts situation near the end, I could see that happening the moment she was strapped in that prison thin. I just knew that ending would happen, so predictable.

I did and was let down... then I thought about it a bit and I liked the wool was pulled over my eyes.

Then you should of paid more attention since he states flat out he never shot him and it was all an act. Just like everyone complaining about how Guy Pearce was to bland and unassuming. Again he flat out says that is what he wanted.
